I was one of the privileged few that Herb taught electronic music to at Hofstra in the early eighties (a few steps from where I watched the islander’s dynasty). He inspired my synth addiction over the past 40ish years.. 50+ to this day. Thank you Herb!
Rest in Peace Herb! Thank you for everything you taught us and for your massive contribution to music history. Through it all, you remained gentle and humble. ♥️🎶
I had watch this documentary when it was first issued and the least I could do is return to it and watch it again this time with a heavy heart but also with lots of love and respect for this wonderful man.
RIP Herb and thank you for everything you contributed to music. That story about the birth of the envelope generator always makes my spine tingle! And I've also just realised something... July 1964. The Moog was conceived pretty much the same month I was :)
A great innovator, electronic pioneer, and teacher. Electronic music wouldn't be the same without you Herb. Thank you and Bob Moog for creating the instruments that shaped the music of the modern era! 🙌🎹🎛🎶
I love this man! I was privileged to study electronic music with him at Hofstra and he changed the way I thought about music forever. He was so ahead of his time. The role of articulation "attack" and "decay" as one of the basic building blocks of musical performance; the importance of understanding the physics of sound as a part of musical training ( tough for me!); the Varese definition "sound organized in time." Even as a singer, it all rang true as a new way to think about performing even as a human instrument. It was a new world for all of us. His beautiful open mind and enthusiasm led us into the next generation of musical creation. Thank you Herb!!! You have given us so much!
Beautiful tribute to an amazing teacher, musician, and human being. Thank you Herb for many years of music memories. Looking forward to our next musical adventure together!
This is Fantatstic! What a history Lesson and a great Tribute to Bob Moog! Herb is so passionate about Music and Moog. I bought a Mini Moog Model D when I was 17 in Australia. I spent countless hours getting lost in it's Amazing Endless Sounds. Later on when Roland invented the GR500 Guitar Synth I tirggered the Moog with CV and Gate from the Guitar! I was blown Away!! 🥰
This is just beautiful. Thank you Moog for going the extra mile to illustrate the essence of sound and music. I will never forget Bob's incredible speech at Cal State Northridge and his ability to effectively listen whenever we talked. The Universe is a better place for a variety of reasons including the collaboration with Herb and Bob's discoveries. Inspiration to last a lifetime.
Heart touching beautiful presentation of crucial inventions in music history. The videos of the Moog channel are absolutely brilliant - made with a different unique style and interesting facts. Thanks so much!
It's great to get those historic insight views. So we get knowledge about the beginning of those beautiful instruments. And every time I press a key or turn a knob ... these people made it possible.
Every now and then I think about the video you did on the Sub Phatty and how excited Herb was to see a new analog instrument being made. Beautiful person
please everyone remember the name of Max Brand, who was, alongside with Robert Moog, the inventor of the synthesizer. He was an Austrian composer who never got the credits he deserved for his work on the first synthesizer, the „Moogtonium“, which was originally invented by him in early 1966! and then build by Bob Moog in 1968! This original Moogtonium still works and exists to this day in a small local museum in Max Brand’s hometown Langenzersdorf, Austria!
That was amazing... Thank you Moog for making this movie, and thank you Herb for all you have done for music. You don't get to hear a legend tell his story every day...
Wow that was amazing. Thank you. Herb the Legend. His voice is great-classic New York City. Delightful history. I look at what synthesizers have become and often wonder what is coming. Thank you Herb!!
I love the intrinsic value of preserving the real and actual history of electronic instruments and music. Happy birthday Herb! You truly are a beautiful human being!
Wonderful documentary! So great to get those historical insights into how things actually came about, straight from the horses mouth with the wonderful down to earth humility and practicality of Herb. It makes the development and ideas of electronic instruments and music fall into place. Thank you!
This was fantastic to learn about the great deutsch and his impact on electronic music. The illustrations and music help narrate the dialogue. Great job Moog!
Oh this was absolutely beautiful to watch & listen to. I just LOVE the whole dreamy positive vibe of the entire thing. I could have listened to Mr. Deutsch for another hour and bath in his sheer enthusiasm & passion. He rightfully has earned his place in music History right next to important people like Friedrich Trautwein & Oskar Sala as well as Leon Theremin and of course Raymond Scott, to only name a few. 🎹🎼❤
