    I wanted to attend this class but my budget was pretty tight this month (property taxes coming up). I'm SO glad you did a video on this. I've been wanting to do it for a long time using a leaf from my Empress Wu hosta. I've watched other videos but I haven't seen anyone use the vinyl cement patch. That looks so much easier than buying a 50 lb bag of cement. Thank you for this video!!

    Excellent instruction! Thank you.
    I just took a class and we sprayed them with flat black protective paint (as a primer) a few days before we did the decorative painting. I didn’t notice you putting on a protective primer paint. Did I miss that in your video?

    Thank you thank you thank you! I wish that I could give you three thumbs up!!!😊😊😊❤❤❤I have wanted to do this for so long. Do you think that you could leave them the natural color and use them for stepping stones into a garden bed? Or bird bath on the ground? Your thoughts???

    • @gardeningTLC
      @gardeningTLC  Год назад +1

      I would probably use portland concrete instead of vinyl patch concrete if you are going to walk on them. Also make sure you make them thick enough.

      @gardeningTLC  Год назад

      Oh and I have done lots of ground birdbaths with them. 😀😀

    @gardeningtlc - Will these be strong enough for stepping stones in the garden? Are they able to withstand weather swings? Winter?

    • @gardeningTLC
      @gardeningTLC  4 месяца назад +1

      I think you would have to use a concrete mix with more aggerate in it to have them be strong enough for walking on them. I pull mine into the garage in winter.

    💚Love this!! I wonder how a 3 foot elephant ear leaf 🦶🦶🦶 🐘👂🥬 would look if It were used as a planter (naturally so the stems would be appreciable on the outer side)....hmmm🧐

    expensive is not usually the goal of DIY. portland cement with very fine sand with mortar mix or portland cement is perfect for these projects...

    It’s not concrete. Concrete has lots of aggregate in it. Just cement, sand and water:-)

    Hi Michelle,
    I have wanted to get around to leaf casting for years, and I had several extra bags of cement from a previous job laying around in the garage, so today I sifted a couple of cups of the dry mix through a colander into a gallon ice cream bucket (I wore my painting respirator) and mixed that powder up with water for a sorta thin initial layer, to make a nice smooth imprint. There was still some wet mix left so I added back half the pebbles I'd just sifted out to give it some bulk and patted that on as another layer. I probably broke every rule of mixing concrete right but it's just gonna be a stepping stone for the outdoor faucet so...whatever! You are right, it is fun and easy!
    P.S. I wanted my leaf to be super flat so I just put the saran wrap straight onto my potting bench table and set the leaf on that. I guess in 72 hours we'll know how it looks!
