I've always been a hydraulic man but I have to say this video swayed me into ordering a new super split heavy duty with the new 90 pound flywheel version with a 6.5 honda ,the boys in Mass say she will be built and ready on 10 /6/12 ,thanks' guys for a great video!!!
very good. I have an older super splitter and have been transformed from a hydraulic fan to a fan of these. These are fast, simple, powerful, and safe. The machine I use is also over 40 years old!
There will always be skeptics and critics out there, tell you the truth , I think they are all just jealous cuz we're kickin ass on this mostly red oak firewood and they just don't know how to handle it.
Yeah thats awsome they got it there right on time...I have checked around since then and saw some differant models and pretty convinced on them so far from what ive seen..thanks for your help have a great day God Bless
yeah thats pretty ingenius i looked at other videos to of differant models they say they save more gas and time. theyre just completely more effecient Thank God for progress and the abilty to learn thats for sure..have a great day God Bless
Hey, just being silly here, but use the loader to feed yourself the unsplit logs and have your helper do more with his time by merely tossing the logs in the pile that was right there, also, rather than get upset that someone gave you some of their input, sing the song, "I get by with a little help from my friends'.:)
It splits everything, the hardest wood I've split with it has been hickory and sycamore, as far as 300-400 lb pieces of wood????? how would you even get them up on the table???
does it split walnut.elm or boxelder 15in in dia.or larger . I do like the splitter nice. ? how much weight will the table take some of my pieces are wet and very large oak 30in dia 300, 400 lbs
Tim, yes I still have the splitter and it'll take me about 20-30min to split a cord by myself if I have the wood stacked up by the machine and have my wood conveyor set up, which I now use instead of the bull dozer. You just can't beat this machine.
Go to Wikipedia, look up "kick ass", you'll see this log splitter! It's the stacking that has become the hard part of heating with wood! You have split enough wood in 10 minutes to heat our house for a month, incredible.
Very cool machines, a little too quick for me. I like to be able to back out if I needed to with a knot or something. I think its good to have a buddy help you. This way you're only focused on your job, not the table part too. And if you get your arm caught in the blender, good to have someone nearby... :-)
@pawcop great job i love that splitter i have had mine for 9 years. its worth its weight in gold no dobt. ive made payback on the 3650 i paid for mine in 2002 BEWARE there are alot of knock offs out there and arent as fast. there all copycats. THERES ONLY 1 " SUPERSPLITTER"
Wowser Pawcop, how many coffees did you drink before making this vid? It's a great splitter, I asked the manufacturer and sadly they don't sell them in my part of the world otherwise I'd be saving for one.
Hi pawcop, do you still have this wood splitter? If so, do you still love it? I am considering buying one because I can't stand how slow the hydraulic ones are, even though they are powerful, for me, it's all about EFFICIENCY. How long to split a cord of wood by yourself? Is it worth the price? Is there anything that you would change on the wood splitter to make it better / more efficient? Thank you for your reply.
Oh contrare; I have split hundreds of cords of maple, oak, elm, ash, cottonwood, willow, etc, etc you name it with one of these things. It binds up, just let it back and hit it again. There have maybe been 5 or 6 times ever that I had to knock a block back off the wedge. Between my dad and I, we burn about 20 cord a year and just him and I can run a winter's worth of hardwood through this splitter in a day. They're amazing
Yes it does split red oak real well. As far as an alternate or different wedge , other than what's on there now would just b inviting headaches. The machine is designed for speed not power. With a very sharp wedge it will go through most knots and fingers easy enough have the doctor sew um back on with no problem.
You better be in good shape to try and keep up with it! You will spend more time cutting the wood and getting it ready to be split than you will splitting it. I have split Gum, Pine, Oak, Pecan, Walnut, Sycamore just to name a few. These splitters are great (Period)
Guinness Book of World Records competitor! He's the bio-mechanical part of the feed in this set up!!! no comment on safety issues but i think he still has 10 fingers......
My biggest complaint is that the wedge is too short. Large logs "ride up" on it. Splits even shagbark hickory with authority. Mine has a subaru engine.
Not so many haters on this vid as in others. I've yet to find a video anywhere that shows this machine not going through anything that's thrown at it. Crotches can even be done if you're smart enough. What motor is this? The 5.5hp honda right? Only an idiot would try to throw any log more than 100 lbs on a splitter, the rest of us would noodle it into smaller pieces or at least use a maul and wedge or vert hyd splitter. this is definitely on my list and would pay for itself in a week
Wow, this thing beats a slow-ass hydraulic splitter hands down. I do not understand why 'they' haven't figured out how to make a hydraulic splitter move faster... I've heard it said that if the splitter goes too fast, wood will fly all over the place and chunk people in the head. But this thing is the very picture of speed and tranquility.
+3Sphere If you could get the pump to spin faster I see no reason it wouldn't split faster! Look at cars with Hydraulics. the more power you add to the pump the faster it turns which lifts the car faster.
+The motorsports project That may be so but I wonder why nobody has done it? Instead there are about ten million molasses driven hydraulic splitters around. You have to get up into the $tens or $hundreds of thousands of bucks with a monster firewood processor to even match the speed and efficiency of the SuperSplit, yet they aren't in every garage. Very strange. I must be missing something... I'm done with 'em. When my place sells and I move further out on some acreage in the country, I'm gonna buy a top of the line SuperSplit. They're built like a tank and the best SuperSplit model is still way cheaper than even a mediocre hydraulic one... I wanna have as much fun as this guy in the video! :)
Making great use of a natural resource...I do the same thing but, with a whole lot slower yet modern 34 ton horz./vert. 9.5 HP splitter...A WORD OF CAUTION = Keep Safety In Mind and Live To have a nice day :)
This is the same as at least one other and possible more with the same action. It is ok if you can manage at the end of the day with one less finger! It can be lightening speed but the downfall is this is dangerous, and needs two people or one doing double the work pre-stacking, splitting and stacking. Moving fast like this is not conducive with efficiency when moving so fast there is a very real danger here as I have said.
Thats pretty fast, but if you ran the Honda engine at its manufacturer recommended speed, around 3600rpm not in the 4000rpm range it would probably slow the production down by a third. Slow the engine down to its recommended speed and o another video. I bet you wont look quite as impressive.
These are designed for one person operation. Obviously two people can accomplish more in the same time. There is minimal safety risk. I own one, I should know. The rack may be stopped immediately by pressing down on handle. Nobody is fool enough to bend over the i-beam in operation on any machine! These are fast because it is mechanical energy not wasteful hydraulics. The speed comes from how long it takes to drop a log in place and pull up the arm. If it doesn't split first contact, then you may hit it as many times as needed to split it. The recover time is the speed that the fly wheels recover from on the initial cycle and it is in seconds, so you can re-engage the rack by the time it is retracted from the first hit. There is a reduction gear on the rack so the speed of the rack is constant, it doesn't slam into the wood bullet fast but pushes it into wedge at a constant, safe speed. The operators in this video both exhibit some questionable safety by holding the log into the split. This I see is dangerous because you may get a finger or glove pinched. I do hold the log if it isn't already contacting the wedge but that is the only time. Ideally, the wood is against the wedge before you initialize the cycle and hence do not need to guide it to the wedge. Maintenance is minimal. Spray with lubricant on i-beam, grease nipples, change oil. It doesn't take 8 or 10hp to turn the fly wheels so a mere 5hp does it but with less recover time than say a larger hp. You are already saving 6 hours plus with this splitter so I don't think another 2-4hp. is necessary but you can order one with bigger hp and increased tonnage. Compare the hydraulics and other mechanical ones out there and I think you will find that these splitters are unmatched for safety, longevity, maintenance. I have already split this years firewood of 6 cord on one spring weekend totalling 8 hours, by myself!. The rest is for sale. I am not wasting any more weekends splitting by hand so I have more time to enjoy. Stop watching and wondering if these video's are tainted, they are not! SuperSplit is exactly how you see it on the advertisers site and You Tube. Enuff said, now go buy one and see for yourself.
it does split red oak and all other species of wood that are found in north east Pa real well ... kick ass ... 2 second cycle... you can't beat that with a stick... ( pa humor )
what if when he reached over to pick up that log that had fallen to the other side, he had bumped the activator arm while his torso was flat against the I beam? :( bad move!!!
pawcop true that but there still remains in any equipment operating endeavor the need to be aware of at least the potential for injury. that situation was one of those. don't be offended. you and your helper man did real fine.
I have one of these Super Splits. It is fast and I like it. See my other coment on this video. I have since found a video of a better one. I can't believe someone has not done a wedge design like this before. I think it is going to change the way most splitters operate. Makes handling the wood a lot easier. I have one on order and hope to get it in a few weeks. Search "Tempest Wood Splitter". Let me know what you think. I am not associated with them other than I am purchasing one.
push down on the handle and it returns. and for all you nah-sayers out there and sceptics, almost all of this wood is red oak and if you watch long enough you'll see that there are y's and knots. please watch the WHOLE video before commenting negatively
it alright if you don't have 20"-24" logs to split. who in the hell wants to lift those logs 2 feet in the air on a perch mount splitter.? lift some of those big cuts you got back behind you. yea, wrestle them up on that splitter...............nuff said
As of now ..... i still have two hands.... and been splitting for 30 years.PTL. Wouldn't it be funny though if i could split wood faster with 1 hand.ha

I think the beast running the machine helps it out quite a bit! Guy is very efficient and knows his machine.
The problem I see is the bucket on your loader isn't big enough ! ;-) Great vid and a GREAT splitter, thanks for posting.
Good job man, one of the only guys I've seen that really knows how to do things the most efficient way possible.
Love mine
Yeah thats awsome they got it there right on time...I have checked around since then and saw some differant models and pretty convinced on them so far from what ive seen..thanks for your help have a great day God Bless
By far, the fastest. Tell me, how much does one of these splitters go for and where can someone buy one? Thanks.
Wow! Always wished I afford one of those...
You guys make a great team; that's one helluva pace. Good job!
top bit of kit ,these have to be the fastest around ,would love to own one......and i don't even have an open fire.Great gadget,Thanks for posting
yeah thats pretty ingenius i looked at other videos to of differant models they say they save more gas and time. theyre just completely more effecient Thank God for progress and the abilty to learn thats for sure..have a great day God Bless
You sir, are a real man.

Nice job!! I need to get one of these!
I like how you put the motor at full throttle id say id helps a lot to do that, how much are these anyway?
Awesome, where can I buy it! My old one takes the hydraulics forever to come and go and you have to run it both ways.
@pawcop
great job i love that splitter i have had mine for 9 years. its worth its weight in gold no dobt.
ive made payback on the 3650 i paid for mine in 2002
BEWARE there are alot of knock offs out there and arent as fast. there all copycats.
THERES ONLY 1 " SUPERSPLITTER"
That guy splitting is almost like athletic caliber for a splitter of this type. He was moving at a rapid pace!
Wowser Pawcop, how many coffees did you drink before making this vid? It's a great splitter, I asked the manufacturer and sadly they don't sell them in my part of the world otherwise I'd be saving for one.
I had a look at the Tempest. It costs 4 times as much! cool splitter though.
You guys are getting it!
Hi pawcop, do you still have this wood splitter? If so, do you still love it? I am considering buying one because I can't stand how slow the hydraulic ones are, even though they are powerful, for me, it's all about EFFICIENCY. How long to split a cord of wood by yourself? Nice splitting all popular wood, but try it here in Newfoundland with some twisty junipers...awww awww
wow it looks so small what is the horse power thats pretty amazing
Are you splitting green wood? Damn thats fast.amazing
Yes it does split red oak real well. As far as an alternate or different wedge , other than what's on there now would just b inviting headaches. The machine is designed for speed not power. With a very sharp wedge it will go through most knots and fingers easy enough have the doctor sew um back on with no problem.
plain old awesome.
on my shopping list!
You better be in good shape to try and keep up with it! You will spend more time cutting the wood and getting it ready to be split than you will splitting it. I have split Gum, Pine, Oak, Pecan, Walnut, Sycamore just to name a few. These splitters are great (Period)
What model of Super Splitter is that? I am looking to order one, and am trying to decide between the models. Thanks!!
very dangerous but i want one so bad.....how much was this
I would put a 4 way wedge on it, looks like it has plenty of power.
Guinness Book of World Records competitor! He's the bio-mechanical part of the feed in this set up!!! no comment on safety issues but i think he still has 10 fingers......
Accident waiting to happen. What happens when you come across a twisty maple? This is great for splitting pine with no limbs.
This splitter might be fast, but it is not safe!
I'd like to see it split some stringy red oak.
definitely fast. Cant argue with that.
that is very quick!
what is the power output on it?
I have a video of mine on here too (shameless plug) & it looks like a slow dinosaur!
looks great where is the hearing protection guys!!
this would be worth owning.
I have some Ponderosa pine that will stop this thing in a heartbeat..this wood shown here is a very dry straight grain...easy to split...
My biggest complaint is that the wedge is too short. Large logs "ride up" on it. Splits even shagbark hickory with authority. Mine has a subaru engine.

did you get your splitter..
Sure, the splitter is wicked fast, but the machine makes you have to work fast too.
wow! that thing is fast!
Impressive, did it start every time for whole stack.
It starts every time. It a honda and very efficient. I now use it in Alaska for splitting black spruce and it works great. Stringy wood.
Please tell me what kind of splitter this is! Thank you!
Super split is the name.
Wow, this thing beats a slow-ass hydraulic splitter hands down. I do not understand why 'they' haven't figured out how to make a hydraulic splitter move faster...

What model super split is it?
Pulp fiction , I love it
Yes, about 20-25 min a cord
Its probably a 6 hp. It's not the that really does the work in these things, though - instead, it's the heavy flywheels.
Making great use of a natural resource...I do the same thing but, with a whole lot slower yet modern 34 ton horz./vert. 9.5 HP splitter...A WORD OF CAUTION = Keep Safety In Mind and Live To have a nice day :)
park the bucket under the splitter and no need to pick up off the ground !!

Moving fast like this is not conducive with efficiency when moving so fast there is a very real danger here as I have said.
I have to agree....I don't see any fresh cut wood or frozen pieces....try splitting frozen sycamore or black locust
how many cord in an hour?
Thats pretty fast, but if you ran the Honda engine at its manufacturer recommended speed, around 3600rpm not in the 4000rpm range it would probably slow the production down by a third. Slow the engine down to its recommended speed and o another video. I bet you wont look quite as impressive.

What is the brand of that baby?
Like cutting cheese. Impressive.
sycamore is probably the hardest wood that I split with it...I think because it has no grain to it.
what if when he reached over to pick up that log that had fallen to the other side, he had bumped the activator arm while his torso was flat against the I beam? :( bad move!!!
Mary, it's called knowing your equipment and being aware of what's going on around you.
What are you doing out of the kitchen Mary?
Mark Pee
lol Mark, be nice
pawcop
true that but there still remains in any equipment operating endeavor the need to be aware of at least the potential for injury. that situation was one of those. don't be offended. you and your helper man did real fine.
The activator arm has to be pulled up to engage the ram.

That'll drive you nuts after a while.
ya that would never go through a piece of red elm or any type of elm. thats a straight grain splitter only.
He doesn't need to go to the gym today!
Try one with knots...
@raginroadrunner
....did you REALLY think they'd show it doing something difficult ?
bad ass period!
There will be an upcoming video of hopefully a faster more efficient me splitting more firewood
Like I said, its a wonder they are legal by safety standards.
i'll have to check , i'm not sure
Ohh I likey !!!
KEEP THEM HANDS CLEAR BOYS111
Gloria, about 3,500 us dollars.
my guess is twenty twentyfive minute cords if not faster. thats cookin
we split almost 1/3 of a cord in about 10 minutes
it alright if you don't have 20"-24" logs to split. who in the hell wants to lift those logs 2 feet in the air on a perch mount splitter.? lift some of those big cuts you got back behind you. yea, wrestle them up on that splitter...............nuff said
if your not "tuned in", an accident is very possible.
Have no idea how I ended up here...
Danger....danger Will Robinson....Yer gonna lose a finger or six...gar ron teed!
It cost roughly $3,500.00 and I think it's the ( J ) model
As of now ..... i still have two hands.... and been splitting for 30 years.PTL. Wouldn't it be funny though if i could split wood faster with 1 hand.ha
I see an accident waiting on a time to happen with the way these guys are handling the machine
shit that thing is a finger remover!!! that thing is fast
any questions about the splitter itself i'm sure can be answered by the manufacturer
I'm taking it their isn't a cup holder on this one either
ha, poplar... that's funny right there!!!! I don't care who ya r .
do you still have all your fingers, hands, arms? watch out one day you may not!
