@@JennyMack True. I live in San Marcos, CA and there's a small adorable Goodwill in a shopping center. The prices are a little high but the store is lovely.
I'm almost 40 and I know who John Wayne is. I have older parents who love JW and my grandparents loved watching all his films, I grew up watching the westerns.
My family absolutely loves this. FIG JAM 3 cups figs 3 cups sugar 1/4 cup lemon juice 1 large pkg. jello (strawberry, wild strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, etc. I think strawberry is the best.) If you are making strawberry or raspberry jam, peel the figs. (It has been suggested that they would be easier to peel if dropped into boiling water for a few seconds. I recommend that you wear gloves to do the peeling as the skin will make your fingers raw. However, I don’t peel mine and the jam turns out fine.) Put the figs in the blender along with the lemon juice and blend (or chop fine). Combine figs, sugar, and jello and let sit for 30 minutes. Bring to a boil and let simmer 20-30 minutes (I cooked mine 20 minutes so it would be easy to spread on peanut butter sandwiches.) If you are going to can the jam, pour into sterilized jars and seal. This will make 2 1/2 pints, so I always double the recipe to get a full 5 pints.

The Salvation Army store in my neighborhood just closed. It was a very big store and when it got a new manager that tried to make it like a boutique it was doomed. She scattered the glass & china all over the store instead of being in one section. She started pricing things so high that I stopped going!
I had to chuckle when 6 min. into the video you mentioned the lady who's having a LOUD phone conversation, a few months ago I entered a community second hand shop with a woman who received a call, I thought she'd stay outside to have a private conversation BUT NO everyone in the store had to hear her side of the conversation. After 10 min. trying to distance myself from her she was still loud mouthing till I interrupted her to ask her to pipe down because her behaviour was rude. I'm all in for live and let live but sometimes you HAVE to put your foot down, I'm over 60 now and I just don't care what strangers will think of me, bad mannered strangers especially. 😊

They remembered you when you came in. You could also drop off donations. So many neighbors commented to me. I tried to call and let them know how we will miss it but they did not care to listen. A boutique is a great idea in my mind.

She roams the yard and in the summer sleeps on the back porch. She begs at the back door and runs after me when I come out. Its amazing how fast she can go. She comes when we call her also.
My neighbor had a fig tree and made some "faux" strawberry jam using figs and strawberry jello and I'm not sure what else, but it was delicious! You might google it! 🙂

We miss the GW boutique, yes they were higher priced on many things but they also missed some real gems. We found a rare vintage pair of Polo Ralph Lauren men's loafers, paid $10, sold for $350. Saw a guy in front of us buy a Herman Miller computer chair for $30, it was worth $600 used. Even the regular GW in our area have doubled in price in the last year or so. We could go in and buy a full cart on 30% off old lady day, now we might find a few pieces.
Slice your fig, add some bleu cheese inside each fig and bake for about 8 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from oven and drizzle with a balsamic glaze. Delicious!

Okay, so about the figs. In my region jam made of green figs is a staple, especially with some french toasts. You pick the fruit while it is still green and firm, just before it starts to ripe, soften and turn to yellowish.Poke holes in the fruit and put them in cold water on the stove. Heat and boil for 5 min. Throw the water and repeat this process two more times. This should remove the bitterness. At the end wash the figs under cold water and let them cool and dry. Put some water on the stove and melt the sugar. For 1 kg of figs you are going to need 1 kg of water and 380 ml of water. Boil sugar and water for 10 min, add the figs and boil for another 20. Once you add the fruits, do not stir them, just sway the pot gently to move them around and remove the foam that will form from time to time. After 20 min let it cool at a room temperature without a lid for 24 h. When the time passes, put the jam back on the stove to melt the syrup and let it boil until it looks thick enough. At the end add 1 tea spoon of citric acid per kg of figs, disolved in 3-4 tea spoons of water. Stir gently and pour into small dried jars while still hot. Close the jars and put them somewhere to cool bottoms up to create a vaccum.
Make fig preserve. Has lemon slices with peel. Delicious on toast bagels. Receipt uses sure gel powder and has receipt or u can look it up I let my figs stay on bush until they are really ripe.
My mother had a mature fig tree and hers were always green when ripe. You must have a different species. Green figs are pink to red on the inside. They are sweet and delicious! I actually prefer the fresh figs to the dried figs. ❤
Fig preserves sell at stores for about $6/8 a jar and are often used to accompany a cheese platter. They are pretty easy to make, with lots of recipes on You Tube. The preserves can be used to make a kind of fig newton... spread the thick preserves on a long rectangle of pie dough, top with another sheet of dough, cut into squares or rectangles and bake the pieces until golden. Of course, one wants to make the pieces neat and uniform, not too big.
People are thoughtless or clueless w phones. I recently was on a parking lot transport bus to main airport and someone was discussing their colonoscopy!😳🥺
Wash your figs Google then sugar them down over night cook them. Down until they are tender let cool mash them get some dough from freezer section cool out put a rule spoon of figs on the dough fold over makes a small bite bake them till golden brown enjoy
You aren’t an idiot by any means and I wonder how many red tag items particularly leather goods other higher end items (maybe not glass or ceramic) will never be half off taken out of store prior to big sale days. I’ve learned a lot from you. I’m not a reseller but enjoy your shopping for bargains and knowledge you share. I don’t shop at Goodwill due to some of their salaries and charge from previous job training. I do shop local charity shops and online auctions. I occasionally do estate sales but my mobility is limited ouch my knees and picking up items after sales particularly picking up items from some high end homes is fun. Last one had million dollar view of river very pastoral. Nice to drool a little.
Danni that decorated green carafe looks like a Princess House wine cooler that someone hand decorated. You put ice in the side pocket and it keeps the wine cool without diluting it. Mine is from the 70's and had a straw closure in the top. You are awesome! ! Thank's for all the great information and videos, love you in Pa.
Fig bars with an oat crumble topping are fabulous. Id make fig jam but it depends on rhe variety of figs. There are scented fake candles now. Just be sure to get the good quality ones.
I like to spread mild goat cheese on a halved fig with a bit of chopped chive on top. It’s a special treat since a package of 6 fresh figs can cost between $6-9 where I live and they are not always available.
Gone are all the days of classic movies and good music that we older but wiser generation know there are still some young gen x that have old souls so we haven't lost completely ❤😊
Hi Danni, Do you have a food dehydrator, if so you can dry the figs then eat them, they will be lovely and sticky and sweet, they will turn dark brown when dried. Lesley, Victoria, BC. Canada.
Battery operated candles are excellent and safe for use during power outages and as night lights. Some also flicker. Real candles are one of the major causes of house fires. Most candles also spew petroleum based artificial scents into the house's interior air.
I really really enjoy you. No your a very intelligent women. Dont ever call yourself names are allow anyone to. It takes knowledge to do what u do a lot of it. Thank u for being you
Hi Niche Lady...This is the first video I have watched...I really enjoy your style...very calming and interesting...never been in a Goodwill like this one. :)
you gave some good advice a while ago that sometimes when you want to collect things you can find some good pieces for a good price because they have some damage , well i have found some awesome things and they a little chip or a crack but they are great and my collection of vintage pottery and glass is spectacular and i love it Thank you
I never comment on another’s actions, unless I have walked in their shoes. Your shoes are very big. So to say. More folks need to remember that, Danni.
Omg girlllll make you some fig preserves! My grandmother made strawberry preserved using figs , she used if I remember correctly strawberry jello to flavor it or koolaide? One of the two, I can’t remember, they were AMAZING! You can make grape etc. use those figs! I love just raw figs off the tree! ❤😊 cheer’s from Birmingham Alabama! 😊
Danni, make fig preserves out of your figs. Go on line and get a recipe. I'm sure Noah could make them. Wonderful with biscuits and butter, especially for breakfast or brunch! I have a fig tree. Started off with a tree about a foot or foot and a half tall. It's now about 7 foot tall and 7 - 8 foot wide and about 10 - 12 foot around! But fig preserves are fairly easy to make. Also, to save the figs for later, put them in a freezer bag and freeze them. No need to do anything to them till you get ready to use them. You could make muffins, a cake, etc. Again, look on line for recipes. You might be amazed! Chris
I’ve made jelly using our figs . I’ll have to look up the recipe, but I know I used jello. Use the flavor of jello that you want the jelly to be; strawberry, raspberry, etc…
The Boehm glass plate that you found is pronounced beam like a balance beam. My father used to collect the ceramic birds figurines from that brand. years ago.
Hello Niche lady, I'm Kathee. I've watched you like... Well plenty of times. Just giving you a shout out. That tea cup with the piece that fits inside makes them hold less & that way, after you boil you water & steep the tea in the cup, lid on 2-3 minutes. Afterwards you take out the tea strainer & fil with cream or cold water & sugar, etc. It keeps one from burning your lip or scalding your mouth. That's what I read once.
Well yes...prices are going a lot higher because with the invention of social media, everybody is a reseller, trying to get their name out there...filming themselves buying something at their local thrift stores and proudly boasting about how underpriced it was and then reselling it for so much more. Hu...If you're giving out the value of something, would you not expect people to resell things for higher amounts? Is that not what we do when we "share knowledge"...or is it that that knowledge is not to be shared with goodwill...a RETAIL STORE, since only their services (job connections) are the non-profit. If influencers are providing the info, they can't become upset when it's being used, by whomever.
I've talked with key executives and the pricing is not a reflection of RUclips content creators, it is a result of the market and volunteers and employees looking things up. Goodwill sets pricing parameters based on their revenue needs. Trust me no Goodwill exec is watching RUclips videos and saying oh look they say it's worth more we need to up prices, it just doesn't work that way at a corporate level.
I've done some videos telling my story... it's a long answer! I grew up in the back of a thrift store which got me hooked, I was a single mom working 3 jobs, could only afford thrifted items. I started buying and selling before Ebay was even a thing - long history of direct sales companies, then Ebay happened!

I ALWAYS learn from your tube's. I love your personality. Thank you for sharing!
I used to have a fig tree and made fig bars from scratch. You can also make fig nut bread, and fig cookies.
Sounds luscious
The birds get to them first.
My grandmothers made fig preserves. So good.
I love your discretion when determining what to buy! You are obviously successful so keep it up!
56 years ago , my husband and I bought our first picture . Yes, a Norman Rockwell , oh the memories!!!
We love you Danni don’t listen to haters the world unfortunately is full of them-you have taught us so much❤
Old time southern fig preserves are to die for!
Gone are all the days of classic movies and good music that we older but wiser generation know there are still some young gen x that have old souls so we haven't lost completely ❤😊
Cool store ,, thank you for window shopping with you ,,, injoy your day ,,
The glass dome with the wooden ball is a terrarium
Dani, super finds & knowledge-incredible ! Agree, loud cell phone use in public, 😮😢lower voice obnoxious
Hi Danni, Do you have a food dehydrator, if so you can dry the figs then eat them, they will be lovely and sticky and sweet, they will turn dark brown when dried. Lesley, Victoria, BC. Canada.
Yes I have one!
Not fig newtons, but my ex made a recipe with pastry dough, figs, and blue cheese tarts. Sooooooo Good!
The glass thing with the ball on top is a terrarium for plants, I bought mine at Target. I paid 39 for mine
Welcome! I'm so glad you like it!
I just looked up the coalport figurines..they seem to be going for alot of money..I'm kinda shocked. Love all you do Danni!
Dani don't feel bad sometimes it is hard to be in moment when shopping if you missed something it was a learning tool when you review film ❤🎉
you gave some good advice a while ago that sometimes when you want to collect things you can find some good pieces for a good price because they have some damage , well i have found some awesome things and they a little chip or a crack but they are great and my collection of vintage pottery and glass is spectacular and i love it Thank you
We love watching your adventures!!!
You’re not an idiot! You do what you want to!
Danni, make fig preserves out of your figs. Go on line and get a recipe. I'm sure Noah could make them. Wonderful with biscuits and butter, especially for breakfast or brunch! I have a fig tree. Started off with a tree
about a foot or foot and a half tall. Chris
I watch you alot.i am doing things you do. I got when i go in the Thrift Store i look and i will talk to myself. You dont need this and i walk away.
That goldish copper hand is a Buddha hand. I relate to your struggle! I try to resist and think lol
Figs with walnuts warm them up in the microwave for a few seconds. It's delicious! My Italian friend showed me this.
Fun shop 😊
I’ve made jelly using our figs . I’ll have to look up the recipe, but I know I used jello. Use the flavor of jello that you want the jelly to be; strawberry, raspberry, etc…
The bottle with the wooden ball on top is a terrarium bottle
I Loved that Alot! ❤
The Boehm glass plate that you found is pronounced beam like a balance beam. My father used to collect the ceramic birds figurines from that brand. years ago.
Hello Niche lady,
I'm Kathee.
Danni, how and why did you get involved the thrifting and reselling? Have you ever worked a corporate job? What made reselling a good thing for you?
I've done some videos telling my story... it's a long answer! I grew up in the back of a thrift store which got me hooked, I was a single mom working 3 jobs, could only afford thrifted items. I started buying and selling before Ebay was even a thing - long history of direct sales companies, then Ebay happened!
@@TheNICHELady Thanks for answering my questions.
I gave away a lot of the jelly that I made from our figs to people at work and got lots of compliments on the taste(s).
