Another comment, this one regarding the standard edition (white dustjacket). - the standard edition comes in a similar box. That box is all blue (a nice dark, like THE RETURN OF THE KING Extended Editon DVD) with the Doors of Durin image right on the box (would be neat to display on one's shelf, I should add) - the Mazarbul facsimiles don't come with it, or the King's Letter, but INSIDE the book is the same. In this edition here, the Mazarbul leaves are also IN the book itself - the facsimiles separate from the book is a 'bonus' to the slipcased edition seen in this video. - the standard edition also has the maps detached so they're quite similar in contents, but the presentation is different, as is the case w/ comparing 'standard vs slipcased' for a new Tolkien release, whenever both are offered.
@@TalkingTolkien Does that mean that you don't think much of the white standard edition? I only ask as your reason for not getting the two for comparison as I thought it would be good to compare,(in my humble opinion).
No no I have nothing against the white edition! I just already have more copies of LOTR than I have space for and couldn't justify another one just to compare!

Looking great. Mine is due on Thursday. I've wanted a 1-volume edition for years, and often debated between the various editions (50th/60th) without ever making a decision. So I instantly pulled the trigger when this was announced. My mind was made up.
Wow this seems like a truly definitive edition. And those pages from the book of Mazarbul might be the only time they've been published as intended. Too bad about the peeling fabric on the cover tho :/
Great video! That is one beautiful edition. They did the maps right this time instead of attaching them inside the inside covers like the 50th anniversary edition where they were easy to tear. I want this so bad but I probably should stick with my 50th anniversary edition.
I've been waiting for this overview. Excellent as always! Thank you for taking the time to share what the book looks like and the ephemera. It's so nice to see a book like this in detail before purchasing. Cheers!!
Sadly my copy had unfinished cut pages , and later discovered that 15 pages with no text in them , it’s now being sent back to a great read for a replacement
A very thorough and enjoyable review, as usual. Thanks for uploading. The design seems to be combining some of the elements from the "regular" deluxe series (motif on the rear of the book, paper flyer summarising features, plain slipcase with cutout) and the illustrated deluxe editions (cloth slipcase, more ornate spine embellishments, cloth-bound boards). I suppose it doesn't fit into either "series", but stands alone? A very nice book, in any case.
I'm very happy with another video on the channel! I'm Brazilian but I really enjoy watching your videos, especially the Frodo's Journey series, using the LOTRO game as an environment. So, I would like to know if there will be any new videos from this series here on the channel, please.

I note on paper quality. Thin doesn't necessarily mean low quality, what's important is if they used a reputable printing company that knows how to do high quality thin paper printing. Many bibles for example use very thin paper and they're some of the highest quality printing you can find.
Great video as usual! Very happy to see a new upload on your channel! The deluxe edition looks very good. I pre ordered the trade version, lets hope it is good as well. I got this edition too. But I can’t seem to find the same edition for The Hobbit (maybe none planned yet?), and I’m not sure if the orange Silmarillion Deluxe 2021 is in the same set as this. My ocd compels me to get matching editions lol.
There is no word about a similar edition of The Hobbit. And yes, the orange Silmarillion Deluxe edition matches this one ( as does the blue Unfinished Tales Deluxe & recently released The Nature of Middle Earth Deluxe ).
@@djsuth7727 no it doesn’t, how does it match this one? Different style and not in leather. Perhaps there is another orange version I am missing? Are you not referring to the one in the infernal slipcase? That one certainly does not match this, not by a long shot.
@@kencur9690 Back when this video was made, and I posted my comment, the deluxe author illustrated edition of the Silmarillion didn't exist. @@kencur9690 Indeed, I retracted my initial response which was written not long after I woke up in the morning ! In my original comment I was referring to the orange slipcase deluxe illustrated edition. The quarter leather binding aside, it has the exact same dimensions as this LOTR edition, and the Harper Collin's colophon and Tolkien symbol on the spines are identical. Of course, there is now the blue quarter leather bound deluxe author illustrated edition of the Silmarillion which is identical in styling to the LOTR edition referenced in this video.

Have a search for 'Goblin Feet'. Tolkien was so embarrassed by it in later life he tried to disown it! It's a nice idea to try and rank his works, there's so much out there beyond LOTR and Middle-earth even.
Thank you so much for the excitement!! 🎉 I just got my package today with my deluxe copy (like yours). My daughter is in bed asleep, so I’m being tortured and won’t open it up until tomorrow. (She’s an 11-yo and a LOTR fan). So her & I will share the excitement tomorrow looking at everything. You wouldn’t happen to know the edition size, would you??? Some people are claiming only 5,000 copies were made. However, it’s easily found everywhere for sale. Which leads me to believe that those edition sizes they claim are untrue. Also, HarperCollins has no listing of edition size. Curious if you’ve heard anything about it?? 🤔
I have just received the "white "standard version of the lord of the rings, only its not white at all rather grey in colour, or certainly, mine is , it seems rather toned down to what I saw in all of harper collin's marketing of the book, wish now I had got the Deluxe version because at least with that copy, what you see is what you get .
Thankyou! I may do the Nature of Middle Earth. I have the standard hardcover, but haven't read it yet. When I've had time to do so I'd like to do a video - if not it will be in my 2021 round up at the end of the year.
I don't regret buying it since I paid for it months ago, maybe after drink or two, but for the money spent, I was expecting... better? Was I expecting too much to think it'd have real sewn binding? Ah well, it's better than my old beat up paperbacks from the 90s. I'll have to like it I guess.

Wondering if you could do a ranking from worst to best of Tolkien’s works and why they ranked that order, really interested to know
Have a search for 'Goblin Feet'. Tolkien was so embarrassed by it in later life he tried to disown it!
It's a nice idea to try and rank his works, there's so much out there beyond LOTR and Middle-earth even.
@@TalkingTolkien search it where on RUclips or a website, also im asking for your opinion and your rankings on his works, im interested in your list.
So, in October 2022 you'll do a video on the new Silmarillion?
There is another silmarillion coming out?!
@@TalkingTolkien Yes, in the same style.
Can't wait for your review on the book the NATURE OF MIDDLEEARTH.
Thank you so much for the excitement!! 🎉
I just got my package today with my deluxe copy (like yours).
I have just received the "white "standard version of the lord of the rings, only its not white at all rather grey in colour, or certainly, mine is , it seems rather toned down to what I saw in all of harper collin's marketing of the book, wish now I had got the Deluxe version because at least with that copy, what you see is what you get .
omg i won't even throw the wrappings if i were you
My copy has 4 pages with paper flaws (first few pages of Return of the king) Maybe im being picky, but anyone other copies like this?
Always look forward to new content from you. Will you be reviewing The Nature of Middle Earth?
Thankyou! I may do the Nature of Middle Earth. I have the standard hardcover, but haven't read it yet. When I've had time to do so I'd like to do a video - if not it will be in my 2021 round up at the end of the year.
Why is the Amazon so much cheaper than the likes of Waterstones and other book stores? Is the Amazon a re-print?
Hi man! Have you bought a recent released book The Fall of Numenor? It would be nice to watch your review. Hope you are OK.
Yes I do have it. I'll dust off the mic and try to get a video published.
@@TalkingTolkien Awesome! Can't wait!
@@TalkingTolkien Doooooooo itttttt. miss your videos. hope you're well
Any new videos coming ? Missing them :)
Me too,I think he will only upload when new tolkien book comes out.
We need more :)
Can you give us a new link? This one doesn't have the book
I think there are some stock issues at the moment, I imagine it will be available again soon.
Why you delete the documentary in spanish of lord of rhe rings???
How much is this?
I don't regret buying it since I paid for it months ago, maybe after drink or two, but for the money spent, I was expecting... better? Was I expecting too much to think it'd have real sewn binding? Ah well, it's better than my old beat up paperbacks from the 90s. I'll have to like it I guess.
Does this include the hobbit or just the main 3 books?
No it does not include the hobbit only trilogy
Hi, hope you're alright. We miss your cool videos.
Does it include The Hobbit ?
Pre order where???
All the UK usual spots: Book Depository, Waterstones, Blackwell's.....
So much released since this book why no new content buddy has the channel ended ?
Channel's definitely not ended, just don't have much spare time currently with job, family responsibilities etc. I will be back!
