30+ yrs ago I went through cancer alone. I saw homeless coming and bought a camper. I have a little home right now but those days taught me that at any moment it can happen again. I have a camper still. If sh** hit the fan we'll be alright in a camper. Go get a camper folks. Small is fine.

My husband is a veteran and luckily knows the basics on surviving. He faced homelessness before we met.
I've been homeless 5 times in my life, and I am 43. I experienced homelessness three times from 2021-2024. Because of a spinal surgery. At the moment I have an apartment but to be honest with you guys. I feel it coming back around again- It's a gut feeling. Stemming from past experiences and seeing the same cycles being repeated in the system.

Currently homeless on the street. Used to live in my car until i lost it. I have a job. Im just gonna save most of my money, get a bike for transportation, and take things day by day! I also get to eat free at work so most of my food is covered!!

You sound like a survivor, Adrian. You're going to make it.
I was homeless because i was renting a house owned by the crown government and they put it on the market and a lady who runs transitional housing purchased the house and I was turfed out with nowhere to go i slept out of site only went in public for appointments and go to local swimming pool for showers and i was on the street for 6 months now finally got housing

Put advanced warning sytem every way in and out of my spot. Hid my valuable stuff when id go off. Had a bike to get around a little. I worked saved money and eventually got a better job. I was injured on active duty 70s, told on outprocessing don't even apply. They'll typically deny your case multiple times; when we talk most of us persisted for years.
I finally applied when injury recurred so much couldn't drive or do job. From 2004-2013 took painful outmoded tests out of town, filled forms, took hold of temper & despair. We were both vets, he got on Vietnam Era Pension first. It's limited, doesn't let you earn. We got through all that, try, call, talk to vets groups.

I highly recommend bulghur for folks who cant cook as a rice substitute. But must be finely ground bulghur, not coarse one for pilafs.
Bulghur is cooked and cracked wheat. You store it just like rice.
Important point here for tough times is, Fine bulghur is ready to eat when you pour hot water on it and wait a few minutes. Coarse one needs to be cooked like rice. So keep some in your pack, and when you find hot water, your carbonhydrate/grain base is ready to eat. Add whatever you like, wheter tomatoes etc salad material(raw) and/or spices, and/or tomatoe or pepper paste, and preferably olive oil but any oil would do, to add calories. Its a preferred bachelor/uni student staple, very easy to store and use.
Thanks!

I imagine a service like this would be useful for a homeless person to simply hold their mail and perhaps donate plasma since BioLife has every homeless shelter listed as an unacceptable address. To help a very close family member of mine that's homeless. In a motel now that's on the verge of being evicted. I found a small older hotel for $325. a month. Yes I said $325. a month and I'm pretty sure that includes water, heat and electricity. I better double-check on that but I'm pretty sure it includes heat water and electricity. The guy doesn't have a problem renting these rooms and even said to call him back in August. To see if he had one available then. He had two on a waiting list but sometimes people don't wait and need something right away. And then I found a very nice motel for about $1,600 a month and it's all brand new very nice looking. And this was the only motel I found that was nice all the others were literally used abused dirty and look like drug houses. Since my family member barely has saved any money in their lifetime and they're older. And the family member literally lives hand to mouth. Guess what motel they wanted to take? You guessed it the expensive nice new motel. I wanted the family member to save money so they could possibly get a car again. I really wanted the family member to go to the homeless shelter where they could save $30,000 a year. Because at the homeless shelter it doesn't cost anything. And I told the family member
in one year you can save $30,000.
In two years you can save $60,000.
In 3 years you can save $90,000
and 4 years you can save 120,000
in five years you could save 150,000
Then they could buy a house and pay for it with cash.
But unfortunately thinking about it the family member wouldn't pay the taxes at the end of the year. Because this is the mentality of the family member they literally cannot save a dime. But this is how I think. I always have its just natural and survival skills for me. but it's the opposite for my family member.
They don't even have a car. They have a driver's license but since they had about two or three accidents on high risk insurance. And the price of another car they don't have the money for. And they may not have the money for car insurance after they see this last big accident that put two people in the hospital and one vehicle that was a total loss. And the family member gets a monthly check a month for $2,800 a month for just their self. And they live in a motel with bills they ran up. This is alot of money but the family member has chosen to live out of their means all their life. That is why they have two evictions, credit shot, no references, no friends because they call so much drama and of course no money saved. Luckily the family member doesn't drink or do any drugs of any type. Put this family member literally has more baggage - drama than Delta!!! My family member was making fun of one lady in the motel for not having any teeth and being homeless. But I told my family member your homeless I didn't want to tell my family member they didn't have any teeth either. My family member literally drives everyone away and has no friends. There's some people that get a few hundred dollars a month to live on. I'm hoping this family member can grow up one day. But I just don't think they can for them it's not too many years left! I love the family member. But she truly has some serious problems. She basically has never grown up and thinks it's everyone else's fault.
@tomtee4442 you need to remember homeless shelters are generally Not Safe. You HAVE to move out Every Morning and be on the street all day. Then you need to Hope you get back in the evening early enough to be near the head of the line to get a bed that night. Repeat, Repeat, repeat.... Scary.
Living out of a homeless shelter for a month would be rough. Living out of one for 4 years would be an impossible nightmare.
I live somewhere like this - $150 a week, $600 a month for a one bedroom with barely a kitchen or bathroom lmfao. Nothing here works right and we can't even control our own temperature rofl. Thank you Friar Tuck for this very informative session on how to prepare being homeless if it is unavoidable. You are very optimistic in your approach. I am building a prototype shelter with a recumbent trike to give the homeless a roof with mobility. It is better than tents when sweeps come around. I didn't watch this video but the title scared me. In South Africa, the government created what is called safe zones. An example of a safe zone is a place under the freeway. There are rules on entering and exiting the zone. I don't know if you have watched Star Trek. In 1994, there was a two-parter episode, "Past Things", on Star Trek: Deep Space 9. It imagined a world where the federal government created Sanctuary Districts to house the homeless. All of the homeless - the working poor, the mentally ill, the veterans, etc. I see this is where we are heading. I live in California. My governor has issued an executive order for all of California to sweep the homeless. Communities which do not comply could face financial penalties. The problem is that the government is slashing safety net programs budgets and there aren't enough shelters for everyone. So, where are the homeless going to go?
They are going to follow the Florida system and it will be ran by national FEMA

i live in a cabin in the middle of a small city. cabins are cheaper than houses to live in for many reasons, insurance being one. my place will be up for sale and i am hoping whoever picks it up will make it bigger and stronger but it requires youth and skills which i did not have. i laugh because my dad's car was more than my cabin and land it sits on.
Wow
Thank you so much for posting these informative videos, I am about to be homeless because of unforeseen circumstances and found your videos while looking for information on what to do. I am hoping to be homeless for as short of a time as possible and I have learned a lot from the tips in your videos so far. I feel like there is a big stigma on homelessness but sometimes it just happens and you have to do what you can to get through it. Thank you again for offering your knowledge to those of us who need it! I greatly appreciate it!
Glad it helped. Make sure you nailed down that plan.
Absolutely! Some basic guidance and care would’ve helped so much but church and family are narcissistic failures.
A lot ofBoomers are becoming homeless right now. It's wrong that the homeless are being dumped on, but ageism is as cruel as racism, sexism, or abuse of any group of people. Where I used to work a lot of older people were treated badly and gotten rid of. I'm a Jones Boomer and know that I could easily become homeless as well. Am I going to be abused because I'm old?
Because you’re old there will be more services for you when you are homeless. The only people that get help out here are those that have a check. You will be abused because you were homeless not because you were old.
There is no services for us old people. So maybe there are some places. But it is being defunded anyways.
@@phoenixtoash2396 look for programs that advocate housing first, if you have income, they’ll put you in a place quicker than anywhere else.
@@phoenixtoash2396 If we are not producing tax revenue they want us to go away and die.
The boomer generation failed to prepare. Had their whole lives to plan, save, and invest. What did you all do instead? Now you're in the situation you're in...who's fault is it? Are you going to blame or take responsibility? I can guess...
I had to become homeless because I racked up alot of debt because how expensive living is and had to use credit cards and loans and not to mention the IRS started garnishing my wages so I decided to buy survival gear and I went off the grid, now living in the streets. It's okay because I'm free now!
If it works for you
Don't forget to mention how many times a day. You'll be asked not to sit here not to sit there to keep moving
In FL they started jailing homeless people who refused to go to a shelter
What an interesting an compassionate and non-judgemental video.
Love you

Do you or have you set up a resources database in electronic or paper of the various cities you go to? In case you go back, or ahead of time from research before picking a city?
For the economy, even if something is made in China, it is most often brought into Canada from a US company. To buy something that costs $100 in the US costs $150 CND, $100 from the UK would cost $200; and there is no sign of improvement in the near to mid future.
We have lots of tent cities in Canada (that is many per each city). Each municipal government bounces around from allowing it, to banning it, only to allow it in another location. This all happens with very little notice.
You are so correct on weight, I am looking into ultralight camping gear, but the homeless doesn't have much fancy gear resource after their fancy stuff wears out or gets stolen. Keep what you can on your body in case your pack is taken, but also learn to live with less by using as much multi-purpose gear as you can.
Never imagined Triple HHH would be teaching me how to survive homelessness. I guess he knows how to play the game!
Lol
This is super well organized advice. Thanks, Friar!

Dude is pretty incoherent, but he's got some good points. I've got years of experience myself. My quick advice? Sanitation is key. Keep your trash under control. A dayglo tent surrounded by trash aint a good look. Strike camp every morning, camp at sunset. Don't share a camp. Approach and leave by different routes. On a through-march, dogleg a bit. If the only fresh water is in the mall, it's got 8 routes in and out. The supplies I wish I had? Good boots, good socks, a high-quality pocketknife. A good set of coveralls is gold. Find a shower. Once a month at least. Mow doneones lawn in exchange for a load of laundry. Change oil for a shower. Being filthy crushes your spirit and mental health.
Incoherent, that’s a first, thanks for the compliment
I think a mindset is important .. do we see ourselves as victims of a socioeconomic system that failed us or are we looking for a life more suitable to our needs .. the type of living terminology “ home bum “ , “ panhandler “ , “ traveller “ . Is this new life an adventure or a cruel joke . Not everybody wants to be encumbered with a life of 9 - 5 to pay for a couch , tv & a gym membership .
Live free & comfortably , simplicity is the key ✌️🙏🕊️
Exactly
i just posted on a different video, about how to get monotized, i got to the end of your video, great job knowing how to get some funds!!!!! keep up the great job!(edit) i love your plan to get you in front of people in power, to be a force of change!
That’s the goal
Excellent topic. You are articulate and well informed. Thanks.
Thanks
Great video - glad to see someone with first hand experience in this plus intelligent, truthful and direct discussing this topic 10's of millions don't see coming. You've put a great deal of thought in this, very thorough backed up with practical experience and it seems logical, too. It COULD go this way.
Thank you
I've been homeless for 2 years because I messed up circumstances I've had cancer and been paralyzed prior to that due to a car wreck and then now my disability is suspended because I got money from a settlement and at least I have a van for now but I don't know how long that will last once my money's gone since I can't work I can hardly walk
I also want to be around my kids and they live in another state I was hoping my disability could cover campsites but some of them are expensive and they don't give a discount for disability
I see this happening for a lot of people now and I've met a lot of retired people living in campers I did not get a camper because I wanted a four-wheel drive and you can't find them but I found a van it just ends up being a rare van and he can't find parts for it anymore so one day I'll be walking barely since I can barely walk
Wish me luck and I will wish you luck if you are in this situation I don't mind it much I actually enjoy it because I like to go camping so I look at it like I'm just permanently camping
In the winter it's the hardest and because I had a toxic family and a toxic marriage I'm basically have no support system
I've been in therapy all my life from trauma as a child and so the plot thickens
This is definitely not the worst thing I've been through in life Cancer sucks
They should give it back once money goes a gone
The tarp your going to have good string like what construction work you get the one that’s for layout work! It’s cheap, great quality, and there a lot of it on a small roll!
Rehabs are a blessing and a rope to grab on to even if your not on drugs, just lie and say your an alcoholic youll have a stable place and systems in place after completion that will help you with a job and housing.
I’m not willing to compromise my integrity for preferential treatment
Thanks for this. Regardless of our situation, this video will help just in case.
Actually had family members become homeless due to lack of affordable housing. Luckily they got out but I know it can happen to anyone.
It’s only gonna get worse from here
Get a running car Toyota or HONDA to cam out in..
If in a place like CALIFORNIA OR NEW YORK GET OUT..head for a LTVA OR HEAVY INDUSTRY AREA…
Check laws in places where you may end up for
PANHANDLING LAWS OR SIGN UP FOR A GIG APPS..
Get a GYM MEMBERSHIP FOR PLACES TO SHOWER
Get a AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL PASS FROM ANY GOVERNMENT RECREATION AREA OR GOOGLE AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL PASSES FOR INFORMATION.14 day stays and showers facilities..
That may work for you, but just because it works for you doesn’t mean someone else is gonna have success with it
That is not true, I’ve looked into the America the beautiful past, and you only get free showers. You still have to pay for the campsite.
Arizona is easier. Flagstaff in the summer and Quartzsite in the winter. If you have a vehicle.
@@FriarTuck81 Deliveries are easier than digital self employment for sure. I am not proficient at computer work or comfortable with digital work. I have confidence dealing with the public, so deliveries would work. It is pretty solitary work, deliveries, only interact if you have to hand off a delivery to recipient.
Thank you for sharing Tuck. Could you go in-depth how you work digital while homeless? Im pretty shure, not everyone is caring a Laptop or has access to a co-working space?!
I will and neither do i
Good question! 🍺😊
The NGOs definitely are top heavy and waste money on their own lavish lifestyles...
Well, profiting of someone’s misery
NGOs globally are thinly guised businesses.
Ive been "homeless" sincr 2021. I bought a old travel trailer for 500 dollars...saved up for a newer one bought that...saving for a better one atm. Its cheaper to rent a lot than pay for a apartment. If i could drive id travel 😊
Sure you got your haters who say full time rvers are scum etc (it happens alot where i live, your either filthy rich or your struggling) good luck to everyone!
Make sure you retire the roof every other year minimum

I somehow ran across your video. Thank you.
So much for the information. However, I was wondering if there's an easy way to get a list of just items that are needed to have and do. Without all the rest of the info. Cause I would like to give that information to somebody else but unfortunately, I can't write it down myself due to a disability. And just writing this I use talk to text. So it would be greatly appreciated if I could get at least by chance.😊
Gear is usually sit sit situation specific. Check out my gear playlist.
First aid kits are very important. We get homeless with cellulitis when it starts with a simple scratch. Then they are in the hospital for weeks. Some have a very hard time with that.
Programs have good and bad to them. It has made shelters less available as they get involved in programs and now the homeless have to sign contracts and stay for their services... and there's no walk in shelters because they get more money for programs. Turns it into a business.
Some of these shelters are even forcing senior citizens to sign over their whole checks to them, and not giving the senior citizen anything
What we need is a massive non-profit land donation with some tiny minimal shacks for people to live in. People with loads of money need to step up and do it.
That becomes a slippery slope
My first visit here and subscribed ,Great content and presentation 😊
Thanks
Get a usg bivy, its a rain proop cover for your sleeping bag

Great video sir!! I have just found your channel, I am not homeless in a since, I am having to roommate with a friend for now, I do have a decent job, but not making enough for my own place yet, maybe not ever the way things are going in the world. I have often pondered this exact situation alot recently, and because of my survival skillset I think I could adapt rather quickly, but still thats no guarantee.
Take advantage of it all now before it all gets destroyed
Loved your insights. Was looking for this kinda how - to and i found you. I'm in my mid 50's and worry every day about being homeless and destitute should my landlord sell their property I'd be living in Van with my 2 Cat's.
It's a very cruel world. I hope and pray for you and the other destitutes who work full time for a living but can't afford the rent. 🙏
Check out my playlist I have a lot of information for you
I have heard it said that where you end up in life often depends on where you started....not always..

I am planning on being homeless in two weeks. I am 68 years old Veteran with a fixed income of 1,600 per month. I own a GMc Sierra PU w an 8’ bed. I have ordered. Tusca Hitchhiker camper that will be my new home. I have a nomadic nature. 2013 I spent 7 months living out of my back pack. 2019 spent 5 months paddling on the Mississippi River. My neuropathy has progressed to a place I cannot stand or walk. Living as a shut in does not work for me. My plan to spend summers in the north, and winters in the south. I will join planet fitness to maintain hygiene. My truck has 85k and needs to make it last. Please advise.
If you want any tips, I have plenty of playlists that will help you
@@FriarTuck81 Technically I will not be homeless just mobile. If I stay ahead of truck repairs I will be ok. Need to save so I can r place my truck in the event it dies before me.
@ that is always the toil
Get a book on nutrition and if you are going to eat rice make sure it is Brown rice. If you are going to eat old male make sure it is steel cut oatmeal do not eat processed or ultra processed food only choose food that could rot...for you optimum health..
Ok
Old male is delicious
The problem with housing is that a new "legal" house cost about 10,000 times more than a tent. Huge gap there.
Instant foods like oatmeal and ramen noodles are a good thing to carry in your backpack. Just put the oatmeal packets in a ziplock bag so they don't get wet. You can get hot water in styrofoam cups from a gas station just dump your noodles or oats in the water and place the lid back on for four or five minutes and then eat it.
I’ve had enough oatmeal and Ramen to last me a lifetime
@FriarTuck81 me too but in a survival situation at least it is something.
The man who hosts Invisible People would interview you. 💜
He reached out to me, I tried reaching back out with no response. If you get a chance to talk to him, tell him to email me through my website
Rain fly save my life sleeping in a pop up tent on ground in 32 degrees luckily i got up a bunch and had TP and fly inside my truck i wrapped tp up my bare legs then wrapped inside fly like burrito then slept on cushion cloth seats in my truck
Head inside to warm body face etc with breath

rule #1 don't carry your stuff around with you, find a safe place to store your things / clothes. rule #2 stay clean, find a reliable place to take showers & change.
rule #3 forget your homeless, act normally, go to work, have dinner,
find a safe clean place to sleep.
rule #4 put $ aside each week and save up for a place to live.
I can tell you’ve never been Homeless because that’s the one advice no one would give
@@FriarTuck81 they're right though, that's what helped me off the streets.
Ammo cans are relatively water tight. You can ditch/hide your valuables.
You also don't want housing. a lot of people want housing. I know the services available in my area and know of the programs available for me to build up again. A lot of people want the services, not drug rehab, but re-training, fitness, food assistance, all of that. Where I am, a lot of working homeless. They are in area shelters, working day job. This won't work for people doing shift work or non-day job work.
Sometimes you’re Homeless long enough to become institutionalized. Last time I came off a long stint being homeless it took me a year and a half to get used to taking showers on a daily basis and feel comfortable. Sleeping in four walls. A few years later all that’s ripped out again, With the point of adjustment?
Digging this channel being that right now homelessness sounds preferable over paying 2k a month for a jail cell aka an apartment. It isn't sustainable.
More and more people are coming to that conclusion
@FriarTuck81 I'm still working full time and have affordable rent, but the clock is ticking. One day I'll get the knock and be told rent is going to triple. When that happens I'll have to make a choice. It's nuts what it costs to have some simple shelter.

I can feel homelessness coming. My husbands hours have been great,y reduced and i have health issues. I have no where to go and am trying to prepare for it. My husbands family will take him in with no problem. I have nightmares about it. So im preparing to be homeless. Im sad about it and loosing important items like my moms ashes. Ive applied for so many jobs online and i got no responses.i dont know how to keep up on everything anymore. I feel like im drowning.
Take a breath, love yourself, and find someone to store your mom’s ashes. I have a preparing for homelessness video plus the other channel “My personality HQ” will help you too.
If I became homeless I'd top myself what's the point of living if you have nothing and no body.
Why?
