I'm afraid the long jump pit has to be extended for this young man. At 0.33 he was way beyond that mark because he realised he was going to smash his pretty face on the hard floor and took evasive action. For a 19 year old, I'll take a bow. Incredible.
Pretty face?.. 🤣
Exactly, even i felt like he could have gone beyond the pit, but he intentionally went low not to hit his "pretty face" on the floor lols
@@Vinnicombe1 he cute
That’s not true lol he slid 2 extra feet after he hit the ground so he knew he wouldn’t hit the concrete
@@vishnuprakash81 no lol
This guy might break the world record in a few years, this is the longest jump I have seen in the last 10 years.
Apparently it's the longest jump since 1994. At least I read that somewhere.
He can break the world record this year if he jumps like that alraedy.
he landed on the Board at the end of the pit how is the record longer than his jump ?
the guy who set the record must have cleared the ENTIRE PIT!
Yes in The 90's the only two guys that jumped that far were Mike Powell and Ivan Pedroso, another Cuban.
I think there are longer pits that exist. They are just going to have to become the norm now
With a long sand pit, he could have done around 9 meters, even he had was lucky because could be injured.Well done Cuban boy, I hope he won't be robbed like Ivan Pedroso WR.
But the fall back mark looks was around the same mark as his feet, so not really a difference. The fact that he's 19 though, very promising considering prime years are 25-30. Pedrosa had official blocking the wind gage and was rightfully dq'd for record. These Cuban jumpers are on the brink! WR only improved 2 inches since 1968.
No WR, to much wind in the back.
Bo Rood play it in .25 speed the fall back didn’t make a difference
i hope he will not get robbed like xxxtentacion
Diego SG he wasn’t robbed it was a legit scratch
You don't need to spend thousands extending the pit , when the takeoff board is 1m from the sand -- move it back 2m or add a 3m board, and you're done.
We have genius in the comments
lol I watched a diamond league meet this year where they said the exact same thing. Apparently, there's some politics going on with moving the jumpbar back.
Sounds obvious to do but I would prefer to hear from the jumpers what they think...A simple move of the board may affect them in some way.
Absolutely correct.
@@KoolKaiser No it wouldn't. A jumpers measurement is taken from the board. So it wouldn't matter where it's placed. Meaning, if I take 10 strides, and I measure that to be 30m from the board, then it's always 30m from the board.
Just wow! They will have to start making those longer for every competition
That pit is way too short. wtf IAAF
WAY TOO SHORT!
Yes, it was a scandal.
He could have injured himself and probably would have jumped further had the pit been in order.
@@carlpeterkirkebo2036 I think the guy could BREAK the Record NO POBLEM but they need to extend the pit!
He could have broke the world record
That was the record jump, he fell backwards because the pit was way too short.
Imagine if it was like that when Bob Beamon jumped way beyond the record, it happened once & could happen again.
Extend the damn pit !!!
Excellent effort! Great speed and height!
This is just stupid. Bear with me.
His 8.83 jump didn't count as being the Cuban record because of the wind assist
so why even hold this sport outside?
They have indoor competitions. Why hasn't he broken the indoor record?
Can you do your absolute 100% best every time you do something?
Do you think a runner can hit their best time every single time the run?
oobaka1967 No but that's not the point, it's necessary to nullify times/distances above a certain wind speed otherwise its unfair
@@Renegade_rm56 Yes, it's true. But he saying the competition should ONLY be held indoors, for exactly the same reason you are taking about.
@@bestplanet8440 @oobaka1967 Except the whole point of track and field is overcoming the obstacle in front of you. No...seriously. It's to see which human is the better athlete by seeing who can jump over a higher wall (HJ/PV), who can throw weapon furthest (Discus, Shot, Jav), who can best clear a chasm (LJ) etc., etc..
With that said, the environmental aspects are also part of the challenge. Hence why we have indoors/outdoors/road race/cross country. The steeple chase has two big hurdles and a water pit. Cross country has mud, trees...outdoor Track 'n Field has wind, rain, uncontrolled (natural) temperature/climate. These things make athletics interesting. Indoors is for ideal competition...which produces results that are not as impressive as outdoor results for the exact reasons Im mentioning.
You could run seriously fast times or jump distances indoors, but no-one is gonna really "recognise" it as a true record unless it's done outdoors.
You may have realised I mention weapon & chasm earlier. Track n Field was born out of real world challenges (faced in war times). The board in long jump exist because if someone in the field was to jump across a gap, you want to know who can jump the largest gap, and a gap has a take off point (otherwise you'll fall to your doom), hence why the board exists and jumpers dont just jump willy-nilly.
There are a myraid of ridiculous requests for changes...soon enough people will start requesting participation trophies..
The moment you realize long jump pits will now have to be extended, I'm sure he cut back so as not to hurt himself. Damn bruh!
Bro, they just make you jump from further back.
The pit is easier to extend than moving the board further back
that day you STEP UP LIKE A BOSS & make the Long jump Pit yo Bitch!
Ray J how is it easier to extend the pit??
Natsu because the runway is more technical, if the board is moved back that would interfere with the jumper's approach while the pit does nothing, hence that's the better choice.
The Caribbean has so much talented athletes! I can see a great rivalry between America, Africa and the Caribbean emerging.
Thierno Diallo the us you mean
Kobain The African descendants of The Americas are a mixture of the many different ethnic groups we have in Africa, along with European and smaller Asian contributions. There is no wonder they are freaks of nature.
Thierno Diallo Triggered.... lol you must be from The Carcus mountains...
Kobain There is nothing triggered I am complimenting their natural freakish abilities.
Thierno Diallo All Black
Holy smokes! Only 19. I think we'll finally get to see a consistent 9m jumper.
did you see him in the Olympics this year :(
@@big_bird8597 what happened?
@@worldsbeautifulgame5164 dude i have no clue dont remeber this comment
@@big_bird8597 lol aight bro
He also jumped 8.92 m in 2019´s Cuban Championship with 3.3 m/s wind in favor, and he wasn't at the last stage of his training. They were polishing technical aspects and he got a minor injury. We cubans also think he is going to break the 9 m barrier, Pedroso got close with 8.96 m in Sestriere (1995) and the IAAF didn't give him the WR for wind measuring anomalies, allegedly. So Juan Miguel is our best hope.
well congratulations he didnt lol
aaand he is gone sadly
@@charlesbukowski28why is he not competing?
@@spyrossourelis5376
He's signed a professional contract and will (hopefully) be competing again soon;

The very successor of Pedroso!
He has elements beyond 9m.
WHAAAT?!?!?! HUGE HUGE HUGE TALENT.. Only 19 y/o as well??? My goodness!!! That's nearly 50 cm further than the 2016 Olympics winning distance!!
We're seeing the start of some new here ladies and gentlemen.. Watch out for this man.
Yeah but world record is still from 1991 (8.95) just the 2000s era wasn’t that great I saw gold medals for 8.1 meters
But at 19 is crazy hope he get the record one day 🔥🔥
It's been a while since I've seen or heard of someone almost jumping out the pit. His mechanics on the landing are impeccable and could not be fine tuned much more at all. Amazing form.
What a jump! Well done Cuban boy, you could go for more!
It was a great jump..
Wow! What a jump. Might need a longer pit.
Hadn't seen a bomb like this since the Pedroso, Lewis, Powell days..I had to do a double take
Damn. He rolled back too. Would have been even better
Yes but not behind the initial mark
Because of the economy of 1 meter trap and 5 buckets of sand his jump was 20 cm shorter.
Finally, for the first time in many years, a great player emerged in this stagnant event.
already surpassed his great countryman Pedroso(my idol btw, I was an average long jumper) still in his teens, just unbelievable.
He seems a born jumper like Powell, not of the same type, sprinter-type, as Lewis(Pedroso was also a good sprinter).
I have something to look forward to in Doha!
Watch the reaction of the guy on the right at 0:14
Commentator forget about Yvan Pedroso who jumped over 9 meters but with a judge in front of the anemometer, his jump wasn't validate… Still Echevarria is without a doubt the greatest jumper by far since Pedroso and elders Carl Lewis, Mike Powell, Robert Emian and of course the king Bob Beamon. Good luck to him to break the 9 meters mark!
It was actually 8.96, no'one has hit the 9m mark yet, Powell did 8.99 but that was wind assisted.
@@ZEUSDAZ There is also the controversial Lewis' Indianapolis jump.
This guy can break the world record its going to happen he must do it this year he already has that form.
He will break it eventually! 💪🏼💪🏼
no more rafts for him he now has developed the skills to jump from island to island. What a beast!!!
I can do that to!! hold my beer
Awsome4649 fr lmfao
just WOW, looking for 9M, congratz
El cajón de salto deberia ser mayor, se tubo que tirar atras para encojer las piernas.
Put more pit and more sand please. I’m here for it, and Echevarria.
A shame he has disappeared from the scene since 2022 it seems. Not sure if he'll come back. Those Cubans are really talented jumpers. Just add Sotomayor's 2,45 in high jump, he is from Cuba as well.
he disappeared before that. right after Tokyo Olympics in 2021 he was edged out by tentoglou in his last jump for a gold medal, he never competed again to this day.
8.66 WL in Ostrava today(+1.0)
Great jump!!!!
Love how the announcer tries to take his achievement away 🙄 “8.83 but it’s windy”
wind plays a decent factor. World records can be disqualified from contention if it’s too windy because it’s such an advantage.
look at the 100 m race for instance . If you have more than 2 m/s a second of back wind the record wont count
Jamaica's Gayle, Cuba's Echevarria & USA's Harrison, making 2021 long jump look interesting.
I was on the stadium that day...insane jump but sadly I sat on the other side :(
すごい!
Finally, a talented long jumper. It's getting old watching the Olympics and thinking we're back in 1964 with weak 26 foot jumps.
I've been saying the same thing. the long jump seems to be the event that's regressing.
The long jump is not regressing. Those 28 & 29 foot leaps of the past were just so exceptional. Matthew Boling has gone 27 ft so it would be good to see him give it a go.
I watched it in slow motion.. look like got pick up by a angel & dropped off mid air 🤞😂
Great jump - my friends and I jumped over 9m in a hurricane. At school we could jump 4-5m, but with 60 mile an hour winds us 15 years olds all broke the world record. My buddy jumped over 11m amazing. Wish we filmed it. Funny so much. Harder waking back into 60 mile an hour head winds
Look at the tattoo on his arm. Sold his soul 👀
That's an Olympic jump right there. Carl Lewis 8.91 had Wind +2.9
It was WC
Yoooo?? This is insame!!
From my country 😎🇨🇺 i mean not to brag but we already hold the record for high jump indoors and outdoors
Someone has been watching air gear anime/manga. This guy is like a real life ikki
Still watching 👀📝
Beautiful
Where is the slow motion on the white ribbon to see his foot?
He would have ended his career if he jumped the world record
break my heart lol +2.1 wind
We've got new blood!
Awesome.
Wow! Amazing
Oh my world!!!!!
Our New next world Record.
Incredibile. I think he'll be the first at 9.
8.83 m is less than one half inch from 29 ft!!! Very impressive.
fantastic .......
Espectacular
Shame about that wind, but that pit certainly needs an extension as the lad almost injured himself testing its limits...
This boy a superhuman
why is the Diamond League using a cubic zirconium long jump pit?
Hes only 19
Did you see him reach the end of the pit causing him to fall backwards so they measured his shoulders, so that would of been a 9m jump.
He won the silver by a close margin in Olympics today
Orgullo cubano 🇨🇺🇨🇺🇨🇺🇨🇺🇨🇺💯🇨🇺
Yeah Juan Miguel Tyrone Johnson
The wind’s an opp😭😭
Hmph. Here - hold my beer.
What the hell man? We need a slow mo angle from the side.
He nearly fell bavk becsuse his legs hit the end of the pit...yep...take the board back or get yer spades out.
I felt he flyed
OMG❤🇨🇺
Holy SHIT!!!!!
Is this good or bad?
That’s crazy that would of smashed the Tokyo olympics
god
Need to extend the pit to build his confidence
People in the comments: omg! We may have to extend the sand pit!
Or we could just move back the board... most high schools have multiple boards anyway
That’s my name, and I want it back
How tall is this guy?
For this jump the wind Was...2,1...by second...🙃
Make the box about a foot longer
He easily could clear more ground
he has to cut it short you can’t tell
People, they don't need to extend the pit, they just make you jump from further back. The runway is huge, they have plenty of room to go back. Head to a major track meet sometime, they're fun. Go Ducks! Eugene, Oregon is Tracktown USA!
He just broke the WR. He puts his hand back because of the size of the PIT! His feet land 10cm at least in front of his hand!!!!
His coach said he's jumped 9.03m in practice/training.... with little to no wind..🤔🤔 It's certainly not outta the realm of possibility, but sometimes these Coaches/Trainers can be a little "crafty" with TIMES or Measurements during practice. Lol
But with that said, do I believe a jumper has EVER jumped OVER 9m in a Training session..?? Absolutely. Can't imagine with all the jumps, throughout time, that all the greatest L.J.ers have taken during serious training... that it hasn't been done. Surely one of the Greats have flew past that magic 9m mark??
thats 12 cm away from the world record
What a shame!
That acceleration was perfect, midair he realized the closeness of the pit, he put brakes, what a shame!
Didn’t show where he stepped.
Fun fact about me and him: he has the same birthdate as me, except the year
沙坑太短了吧,跳8.50m up的選手很可能會受傷。
without the arm touching it was 9m damn
i see his triangle eye tattoo .. they get them that quick huh?
wtf why isnt the pit like over 10m? this is getting unsafe now lol!
Time to extend the sand pit
Is this the world record?
no it doesn't count and the world record is 8.95
dat aceleration
I’ve done a 5 meters one as young as 13
