I am a 41 year old woman who had the opportunity to intern at NASA during high school and college. When I first heard about this movie, I was so happy. It is women like these that paved the way for me to be able to have the internship that I did. I am happy it has been made and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you for the full price!
This movie is not perfect, but as a Black Female high school math teacher, I can appreciate how this movie can inspire my students and future mathematicians.
I liked the film at first, but when I learned that they were again twisting the truth to suit a political agenda, I stopped liking it. Why is it so important to twist the truth for these idiots?
Korey and Martin actually had a movie review show that was on The WB in Austin, TX, back in the late 90s. It was short-lived and you can't find any of the episodes online, but it happened.
I went and saw this film today, I agree with both what Korey and Martin said. The movie was very predictable but it was inspirational. Pharells sound track was a nice compilation to the movie and helped to set the tone of the story. I am glad they didn't go into the darker sides of the Jim Crow era and Civil Rights. They had main topics we are still dealing with today. 1. Women getting promotions in the work place 2. Job requirement's discriminating through educational opportunity 3. USA relationship and competition with Russia 4. Technology out resoiurcing human work force 5. Change happening too fast and people having trouble adjusting to it (sounds like the election issues in the rust belt to me. 5. The introduction of new technology: The IBM and the fact those black women who were human computers became some of our very first Computer programmers. This movie covered a lot of topics.
I just came back from seeing it as well... As I was watching I couldn't put my finger on it...But Martin nailed it here. Something just didn't feel real about it...But when you see the real ladies who they portrayed at the end... It just didn't matter. This film and story needed to be made for them. BTW...Their review said the film took place in Texas 'because it's NASA'... I'm pretty sure this division was in Virgina, wasn't it?
im not sure how you would've gotten around the predictability, I mean this WAS inspired by true events. You can argue the same for Hacksaw Ridge, but again inspired by true events. How can you stay faithful to what happened without being somewhat predictable?
DarkMsStress they obviously didnt pay attention to everything. Yes nasa is also in hampton VA. I live 30 mins from there. U can even see the capsules on the side of the road in Hampton!
This movie was excellent, on of the best I've seen in years. I lost all respect for Martin's opinion after this one.....makes me wonder what he considers a "good' movie!
The geometry of the room really confuses me. It looks Like Korey's on the left of the table when you walk in the room, but I guess he's actually on the right, so I can never tell who he's looking at.
At 8:30, the speaker makes the point that "most of the music is original." True, but there's a brief clip of "So What" played by Miles Davis. It would surprise me if these men were not familiar with jazz's most popular and enduring album.
Yay Full-price!!! I'm glad this movie has no really cringe-y scenes, like Streep sanctimonious cringe. Everything is reasonable, earned and so respectful.
I saw this today I agree with Martin and Korey it was a feel good film the crowd I saw it with was cheering and clapping I enjoyed the overall message and proud of what these women were able to accomplish.
does Martin IMO nitpick way too much sometimes? Yes. But Korey....dude. If Martin disagrees.....he disagrees. I know Korey tries to make it tongue in cheek but he sometimes seems to get really upset when Martin disagrees with him.
My major complaint was too much verbal exposition, particularly when we see the most brilliant orbital mathematicians in the nation making 3rd grade explanations of concepts they knew in the 2nd grade. Of course, that would have all sounded like Trek techno-babble to the audience. Otherwise, yes, it was as predictable and feel-good as Muhammad Ali calling his knockout rounds..and still just as fun to watch decent film makers successfully hit the shots they called.
I haven't seen it but with them saying it makes things more dramatic then I can only imagine how it has left out the men and whites who helped the real life people in favour of 'Oh look at how racist it was back then oh!'. Not saying it wasn't extremely racist then.
I'm not talking about who the women are helping, I'm talking about who is helping them as I highly doubt that they did it purely by themselves and have many friends and allies in real life who helped them. I'm not trying to down play what happened or what they did in real life all I'm asking is if this movie solely focuses on them and tries to make things out worse than they really were just for more dramatic impact or stakes. It's a problem that plagues many history movies so I was just curious. Edit: To answer the question, I'm yet to actually see the trailer, most the time I just watch DT review and talk about stuff even though I haven't seen them.
AGamingGamer *Facepalm* What is it you really want then, a book report presented to the class? You can go do the research if you're genuinely interested? My read on you is your problem with their review is, It is not focusing on a so called "white" person helping/saving a black person. Plus Martian's criticism of the film revolved around the historical down playing of racism. Korey in so many words said, this film is to inspire young "African American" females, but it can extend to other so called "races" of women. What nationality/race are you? What are you doing to fight systemic institutional white supremacy? Do you get offended/in your feeling when you see black succeeding more than your counterparts? Do you feel gently for Jim Crow laws(that haven't completely gone away)? I could keep going......
It is not a problem with a lack of as you put it "so called "white" person helping" it is a problem with them just removing people of importance who helped. I'm not asking for a "book report", at the very least a head nod to something happening off screen to do with the person. As for them criticising it for down playing racism, yes they do but they also say that it dramatises the story so I can only imagine that it leaves out anything that would make things less tense, lower the stakes, etc because you know about the character who will help them out.
I am a 41 year old woman who had the opportunity to intern at NASA during high school and college. When I first heard about this movie, I was so happy. Cheryl Brim Yeah, the good far outweighs the bad.
I liked the film at first, but when I learned that they were again twisting the truth to suit a political agenda, I stopped liking it.
Why is it so important to twist the truth for these idiots?
Y'all deserve a tv show
TV is shit nowadays man. Hope they stay on YT, it's also the future of media consumption most likely :)
Korey and Martin actually had a movie review show that was on The WB in Austin, TX, back in the late 90s. It was short-lived and you can't find any of the episodes online, but it happened.
Offworlder1 No, The Reel Deal was a public access show that lasted almost 10 years. The show I'm talking about happened between that and Spill.

I don't like either of these shows but I really want them to get the exposure.
I think it's shameful that this Country simply don't or won't do what's right when it comes to bigotry !

serenityq26 is anyone who doesn't want to waste money on this movie an oreo? Fuck off
Are you using skeptical as an insult? lol
I totally agree with Korey
I agree with Martin, a RENTAL
The geometry of the room really confuses me. It looks Like Korey's on the left of the table when you walk in the room, but I guess he's actually on the right, so I can never tell who he's looking at.
Ill watch anything about the Space race between the US and the USSR.
Predictable doesn't always mean negative though.
At 8:30, the speaker makes the point that "most of the music is original." True, but there's a brief clip of "So What" played by Miles Davis. It would surprise me if these men were not familiar with jazz's most popular and enduring album.

Black Girls Rock!
I was waiting for the guy from Lethal Weapon to show up and be like BUT........YOU'RE BLEK!
I saw this today I agree with Martin and Korey it was a feel good film the crowd I saw it with was cheering and clapping I enjoyed the overall message and proud of what these women were able to accomplish.
BAE Bunnij just asking when you went to the movie were there white people there.
It takes place at Langely AFB in VA...which stuck out because I used to live there. I'm p. sure they still do NASA work there too.
Definately going to see this on Sunday. Thanks Korey for the review.
does Martin IMO nitpick way too much sometimes? Yes. But Korey....dude. If Martin disagrees.....he disagrees. I know Korey tries to make it tongue in cheek but he sometimes seems to get really upset when Martin disagrees with him.
They were in Hampton,Virginia
I really enjoyed your review. You made some great points and I was laughing so hard at the beginning. Whew!! I am a new subscriber.

I'm with Coleman on this one.
Wait did you guys ever do a Moonlight review?
I notice Martin mentioned it but I don't remember seeing it.
Phenomenal movie. Second best of the year.
CrystalJupiter first?
CrystalJupiter check the site, or the SoundCloud. Korey reviewed it at one point, & the others gave their opinions at a later date.
It's on their website.
Martin needs to actually read the book Hidden Figures.
I was hoping it wasn't one of those generic period pieces.
APDaBaron C'mon now...it has Kevin Costner in it, lol.
WOOOOOOH!
Corey G's reaction lol 23:32
the way korey's face darkened when martin said it was worse than "Race" lmao..........................................................
22:36 Corey makes his point very well here
Hey do you review's of Netflix films? If so can you do spectral?
I enjoyed this film. Beautiful and intelligent.
Excellent movie definitely a must see in my book worth the full price
Hey guys, really great review!!
Your website is very frustrating. I wanted to renew my membership and it won't let me at all... I tried to fix it and I messed it up even more. ugh...
Martin, my friend. Objectivity is overrated, try to support your kind and they will get there eventually

this movie was so good. Go see it!!!!!!
It wasn’t TX, it was VA
I give it a low Matinee. Well acted, good message, yet very predictable and heavy handed.
Just fix your damn GameCube already!
practically? no they straight UP lying
LOW RENTAL
All you had to say was Pharrell Williams and I'm instantly out of the movie
Good insights gdon't miss the facts. It was Hampton Virginia.
Hampton VA
TIL the first computers were black ladies.
Mahershala Ali was in that dull ass Predator "sequel"
Korey can't help but help a brother (or sister in this case) out.
Mamas gotta have a life too Jodi
I don't know Korey sounds me like Martin is just right
I'll wait for it on Hulu. I need to see LA LA LAND again.
I haven't seen it but with them saying it makes things more dramatic then I can only imagine how it has left out the men and whites who helped the real life people in favour of 'Oh look at how racist it was back then oh!'. Not saying it wasn't extremely racist then.
AGamingGamer Huh? Have you seen the trailer, these women are helping nobody but so called "white" men. Your comment is so suspect.
I'm not talking about who the women are helping, I'm talking about who is helping them as I highly doubt that they did it purely by themselves and have many friends and allies in real life who helped them.
