    The young Moffo's voice, versatility, and sheer musical talent were wonders to behold!

    Compare to Anna Moffo, all the sopranos who sang Mozart, even with lot of talents, are "interesting" She, is love, passion, tenderness, spirit, purity, beauty, heat, class, all the feeling our harts could feel...

    Lovely-one of the best on YT of an aria which seems to flummox even some big-name performers.

    The young Anna Moffo is sublime. Thank you posting this. People listening to her later recordings are likely to miss her greatness. For about a decade she was one of the most exceptional singers in the world. What a pity she lost her way vocally and her nerves suffered.
    Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Walter Legge tried to help her recover - about the time of her recording of Massenet's Thais - but it was not to be.
    Let's enjoy her here at her very best - a wonderful artist.

      Anna Moffo had an exquisite voice. To me her Violet's is by far the best.

    Merveilleuse interpretation . !!! Et il me semble que c'est la cadenze finale la plus elaboree et la plus longue que j'ai entendue .

      Someone didn't like this? Are you kidding? You must be the greatest soprano in the world. I think we'd love to hear you show us how it's done, no? If you're NOT a soprano, you've showed us you are a musical dilettante at best.

    The difficulty with this aria is the very broad range that it requires, which very few of the sopranos here on you tube seem to have. especially ,as their lower range is concerned....e.g. "constanta". Moffo here comes closest to how I think mozart intended it to be sung. There is a recording out there by Eleanor Steber which is probably the standard against which all other performances should be measured. She sounds like a contralto when she has to.

    This is a very fine performance, yet I prefer that of Lily Pons accompanied by the great conductor Bruno Walter. Melba made a wonderful recording of this as well.

      Cadenzas, by definition, are improvised, especially in early music.

    THIS VERSION I THINK IS VERY MUCH LIKE THE VERSION WHICH WAS RECORDED BY GABRIELLE RITTER-CIAMPI IN 1929, ALSO AVAILABLE ON Y/T.

    Gorgeous - and the siinger-violin dialogue is beautifully handled. Just wish (as with Kathleen Battle, teh violin could be a little louder to get the interplay. Am alone in this? Perhaps violinists are second class citizens on the operatic stage:-\

      You need to understand the acoustics of the room it was performed in, the technology then, etc., etc. There are many recordings that belie your statement. Look them up.

    this aria is a male role, aminta, written for a castrato

    • @MrFpam
      @MrFpam 9 лет назад +1

      +ANNIE PETALS True, but as there are very few castrati about it is inevitably always sung by a soprano. I think it is very rarely if ever sung by a countertenor. The combination of soprano and violin is ravishingly beautiful.
