Best to use isopropyl instead of water and only use a pipette a mil or 2 above the track to include glueing. Mod podge matte is better than pva in this instance as its matt not gloss
I agree with the other comments about isopropyl as using water will still have tension in it where as ipa let's glue soak in nicely, nice finish in the end though 👍
I like the way you reach a conclusion to use less ballast. At 7:17 where you dust on water. Shouldn't the washing up liquid have been added to the water here? This is the first water to hit the ballast, so it would make sense if it was at this point the surface tension breaking washing up liquid was applied.
I like the way you approach and explain everything you do which makes very informative videos. I am laying my track on cork so less ballast will still provide a good shoulder. I will definitely try some test pieces first now though, whereas I might have gone straight ahead before. Thanks
Thanks for the kind words. Testing things is very informative and good fun too. I think next time I would lay the track on cork for a more typical look.

Ah, that probably explains the shiny film finish, thanks.

This is pretty helpful. I wont be able to start my layout for a while, but I may be able to practice some of this stuff in the mean time

I haven't tried that but I presumed there would lots of bubbles from the sprayer if washing up liquid added at that point.
Very useful tips - thank you!

Very useful for me that thanks mate, I have seen people use isopropyl alcohol and water to spray first ?
Indeed, some comments on here about that so probably worth trying. Luckily what I did worked ok in the end. It's a learning curve!
It has been a while since you uploaded are the uploads going to be more frequent than what they have been any way nice video.
Hopefully! 🤞🏻
How difficult is it to insert fishplates onto the track after putting in ballast?
Since the ends of the rails need to be separated to insert the fish plates, I would say pretty much impossible without disturbing the ballast.
Goes to show the benefit of testing rather than rushing in and doing the work.
Thanks, exactly the point.
Sorry but you’ve applied far too much glue! It should not look like that after 2 hours!
You think?!?! 😄
Glue is too thick mate!
