Increasing the vram to 8, and then also increasing the min and max of the page file to 1.5x and 3x of the available system memory helps improve the performance too. Of course the trade off will be ssd space….
If you install a bigger drive, instead of using the ASUS recovery or oem win11 installer, use the Tiny11 version of windows. It’s got all the features you need and everything else stripped out.
Thanks for the comment @fast, have you done this yourself? I was wondering on how compatible Windows will remain with games and things on a build like this. Would be great to hear how you are getting on with it if you’ve tried it.
Yep. I’ve been using tiny 10 and now tiny 11 for a lot of builds. Everything works great on my Ally. I just manually downloaded installed all the drivers and armory crate from the Asus website. It’s a killer little device. Mainly playing Diablo 4 and lords of the fallen.
Hello ! Have you ever tried to install Windows 10 on the rog ally? I have a "gamer" version of W10 installed on my desktop PCs and I would like to install it once mine... Do you think this is possible?@@FastRedPonyCar
As much, as I would love to have a handheld as my daily driver, windows drives me crazy for this! I bought the steam deck, and gotta say.. gaming on it, was better than my windows experience. Also steam os works super smooth with the deck, as a console. Until Microsoft makes a debloated version of Windows for handhelds, I'm gonna stick with Linux. Or one day the devs will make more and more Linux apps! Co its pretty good. And I'm not even an IT guy.
If steam made a version of their OS for the ROG I bet the performance would be incredible. Windows isn't too bad once it has been tamed though. It's a very heavy OS and when resources are scarce, like on handhelds, it is felt. Windows is designed for so many different types of configurations. It's a jack of all, and master of none unfortunately.
I have both and when I pick up my rog ally I wish it just PLAYS like the steam deck but windows is cool for some things just wish it was optimized for gaming.
I understand this is a "laptop" essentially. But, there is no need for additional security. Just adding to resource demands that pull away from your gaming and that's why people purchased this device.
Thank you Jens World, Disable SSD Encryption allow me to install my old GOG games installer exe, like "Under Killing Moon" and "Quest for Glory", for odd reason it won't allowed to install with errors and spend days trying configure ROG Ally but after disable SDD Encryption can now install and play.
Is this the Z1? Not Z1 extreme thats all i had enough to purchase unfortunately i just fried my Steam Deck doing a few mods yesterday evening :-( RIP Q1 Steam Deck she was good to me!! I had sooo many mods on her sheeesh!
Yeah it's the extreme. Sorry to hear about your original steam deck, I have one too, they are amazing machines! What mods did you do that fried it? I'm sure the advice in this video will help you get the most out of the Z1 :)
@@JensWorld__ the new windows 11 update breaks the armory crate app locking you out of controls also stops real tech drivers shutting down audio entirely after boot up the system became laggy even while nothing is running finally when loading a game blue screen error pops up doing a fresh PC reset to see if it works if not I'm sending it in to Asus service center

Eh… Baldurs Gate 3 uses around 3,6 GB of VRAM for example. Why would you set it to 8GB? 6GB VRAM and 12 GB RAM is more than enough
Thanks for making this! Helps a guy like me who is not savvy with these things.
Happy to help!
Nosey Unbloat is probably fastest/best way to remove bloat stock apps.

@FastRedPonyCar that’s great to hear. I’ll definitely be doing this when it’s time to upgrade the SSD for sure

I would keep it on while your gathering roms, bios files, and emulators just in case then turn it off.
Optimize by installing more bloat
Oh nice video from your desktop pc!
This was recorded from the ally.
@@JensWorld__ ik. i'm just sayin' how capable of a desktop pc it is, even a replacement if it needs to.
@@VinnyUnion oh I get you, I was confused 😂 it is an amazing bit of kit!
Do you have weird vibration noises when playing mainly shooter games? It only goes away when I turn off vibrations
Yeah that’s sounds to me like your describing rumble which can be turned off in settings. It’s a standard thing.

My RSR doesn’t work . I turn it on and it cuts off
