  • We were flooded! Unfortunatly, that means I'm temporarily without a workspace!
This is just a quick video update to let everybody know what happened to my workspace, and to let you know that I'm on-track for resuming my various in-progress projects, as soon as I possibly can.

Sorry to hear about the flooding. On the carpet selection, maybe scuff around them with your regular shoes and see if there is a notable difference in static production?

Thanks James. Good advice on the carpet static. The Garage carpet is noted as being anti-static, but no detailed spec. Given the carpet and underlay I had in there before, I’m sure either new carpet will be okay. I used to be quite finicky about anti-static protection, with my wrist straps and earthed work mats, but I seem to be a lot more relaxed about it these days (than I should be!). 🤔

That sucks, gotta get that humidity down! good luck saving your tools and electronics. I lost a ton of books from a flood it sucked

Yes. We’ve been running a couple of big dehumidifiers downstairs since the flooding, both consistently requiring emptying twice per day. Before that we used a powerful wet & dry vacuum to suck a lot of the water out and ripping-up the underlayed carpet certainly helped.
I think we’re nearly there now, as the damp smell has mostly gone and room humidity is now closer to normal levels for this time of year.
Sad to hear about your book losses. Luckily, I managed to save all my books and hopefully all my gear. We were lucky that the flooding was limited to just the carpet (and what was on it), getting soaked!

Sorry to see you got hit with the flooding, it was on the news here. I would paint the floor with anti-static paint as I hate rolling the chair around on carpet. It has started to ruck up and slows me down.
Glue some expensive carpet samples to your slippers so you always have that expensive carpet feel as you walk around. A Vis magazine Joke

Thanks. Painting the concrete slab floor might be a bit cold and uncomfortable for my liking. I figure I was okay with a chair mat on the underlay’d carpet, so getting rid of the underlay’s softness will be an improvement for chair movement.
I also use an inflated balance ball at my workbench (for back health), which rolls nicely on any surface. :)

Sorry to hear about that. I've dealt with flooding myself. Hope you get things back up soon.

Thanks. Yes, it isn’t a lot of fun dealing with flooding. But, I’m focusing on the positive opportunity to set up my workroom again, as a more organised space.
A new concern is we’ve just been told a potential category 3 tropical cyclone is due to hit us from Sunday night bringing more heavy rain and wind. Well, at least my new Carpet is not due to be laid until the week after next.
