Yea it really is an incredible foundation. I’m excited to see what others will add to the genre. I feel like it’s very rare these days to see a game so good and unique that it spawns a genre. Deserves all the praise
Vampire survivors definantly started the trend and made it accessible by selling it so cheap. The game that inspired vampire survivors was Magic survivors mobile game. It was a hand drawn game with the same mechanics that vampire survivors adopted and now many more games.
this game is insanely addictive, i played almost nine hours straight and unlocked all 3 chars and all equipment, if the alpha has that quantity of fun i spect much more on the retail.
Would love to see more. Also, i myself, don’t really care for meta-progress, but it does seem like, based on the first run, it was designed around it a little bit. Thanks for the content as always
For some weird reason, watching this game brings a tear to my eyes. I feel like my childhood just got replayed in front of my eyes. Thank you for playing, Reto!
I don't know if this game does it specifically in some way, but so far it's done a really good job of never making you feel like you're just out of luck; there's always an opening to exploit to save precious HP. I'm loving this genre in general, but so many use Godot as an engine and almost all of them crash or fail to render for me; this game may have actually diagnosed that, and directed me to a command-line setting to get itself running (my hardware lacks Vulkan support, but apparently -'-render-device opengl3' is a thing for godot4 in general).
A Diablo survivor roguelite, this is an insta-follow and buy when it's out! I love how faithful it is to oldschool rpgs and the original Diablos, down to the HUD being on the sides to create that old square resolution. Great find here. :) I also recommend Hell Slayer, it's in the same vein as Halls of Torment.
This isn't even close to being a roguelite. There's no procedural generated content or permadeath (let alone any of the dozen other Berlin factors). It looks fun, though. 🙂
We should get more meta upgrade games that offer them but hand you simultaneously drawbacks for using the meta upgrades. Followed with challenge upgrades that are only drawbacks. This way all parties get served and everybody can scale it to their liking.
Thank for the video as it let me know about this cool little prologue game. PS The quest monolith actually has "not in the prologue" text on somethings
You missed an entire second zone fully implemented into the demo... except for its key art. Still there, though! Locked behind that level is both a legitimately engaging progression system (that dwarfs the raw metaprog) and without a doubt THE best character class in any fantasy setting. Yes, better than full minion-swarm necromancers. Yes, better than the most chaotic storm mages.
I played a good bit of this, and the seemingly big power increase you felt from 1st run to 2nd is definitely just because the archer is a stronger character overall and less so the meta-progression.
It would be funny if they named one of the abilities you can get "Dia's Blow" >:P The game looks amazing, hopefully they'll have enough dev time before 1.0 to add enough abilities to not be drowned out in the sea of competitors though.
You sold me on this game, I love the 4 dollar price point, because I can buy several copies for my friends. Edit: Also Trying to play through it without meta progress, I think its possible tbh.
"reverse bullet hill thats not afraid to actually throw attacks at you" get into higher curse on soulstone survivors and run out of red circles constantly
Amazing game! thanks so much for opening my eyes, looking forward for it. sucks its unplayable on the mac :( About the point of not liking the global coins as being a player that plays alot of rouge lites/likes makes it a nuisance. I do get your point and am able to see how it is a nuisance, but for me I LOVE this kind of progression, as a player who LOVES sticking with one rouge lite/like at a time :)
That meta progress isnt TOO bad... It looks like maybe 5-10 levelups worth or something... lol it could be better I guess. Hooefully the other "biomes" have increased starting difficulty to make up for it?
there is no agreed upon term, I don't really like the term bullet heaven myself. It is already a game franchise, and it doesn't represent many of the genres very well.
Unrelated to the video, but as you're an expert or more like A GOD at Dicey Dungeons, I will have to ask you kind sir for some tips because honestly I couldn't get past the 2nd or 3rd dice? Yk to win with them. Btw I am playing on mobile. Also yes I know the game gives the option to play and unlock instantly everything if you want to but honestly that just breaks the charm for me. So do you have any tips and tricks I could use oh Sir Retro for Dicey Dungeons? (probably it's just to get very lucky, because hey, it's a dice game, a dungeon dice game! :) ) ヽ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ
Interesting idea, but think they would need to get large variety in enemies, maybe ability to have stuff you earn carry over and ability to add difficulty stipulation so there some increasing sense of progression, even if you're starting over once dying. Think learning too much into bullet hell is going to make it repetitive pretty quick, think they need to figure some way of working way around that. Another idea to could make some exploration quest element to it heading to dungeons or stuff maybe if you keep some progression quest places where just really tough boss fights you can accept for extra progression, which makes the bullet hell grind feel rewarding since it give you a shot at something bigger etc.
This game looked terrible and after 5 minutes I was *completely* into it! Also, did the first mini-boss look at *lot* like The Butcher? (only he had a hammer instead of a cleaver) One thing - the sort-of *blandness* of the game really shows how much snazz there is in Vampire Survivors. Stuff like the jackpot chests and so forth. The VS developer's gaming industry (gambling) helped VS a lot.
Imagine playing 5 new games a week and the game expecting you to grind some dozen(s) hours just to 'finish' a run. Plus we're rogue fiends. We tend to want every game to have hardcore mode where you have one shot at greatness, and your odds, mechanically, are the same on run 1 as they are on run 100...
Hope this trend dies soon, most of the time its one and the same game, just a reskin. Most of the Vampire Survivors clones could be Vampire Survivors mods/total conversions, if it had good mod support.
You’re a terrible man I watched your video and played for over 8 hours earlier today. The video left out the well in which you can drop a loot item into and purchase it for a future run. I found the warrior way weaker until I’d spent a bunch of gold on upgrades although I think 24-25 mins was the longest I was able to survive and that was with the warrior after seemingly getting stuck at the 20 minute mark with the archer. Another thing I noticed on the warrior was that it would often label skills weak-strong. 12 hours after I stopped playing my neck is still a bit cranky. But I’ve had some sleep and I’ll get some more. The progression system via Gold evolved as I played more adding more options. This game may have a problem and I’m the problem. Thanks you bad man.
1) You missed the point entirely. You don't unlock literal strength in Brotato. That is why it is my favorite reverse bullet hell, it is the only one that threw that bad practice away. You don't have to grind for 10 hours to play a properly balanced experience, and 20 hours to make the game easy. 2) Not once have I ever said I loved Brotato's progression system? It is my favorite system because it could be a lot worse, and every other game in the genre seems to carbon copies VS's system, which I abhor. Unlocking new options? Absolutely, if done right. Unlocking the ability to win? I hate it, worst trend to hit indie games.
Its insane that Vampire Survivors created a whole new genre of games! At leat it showed how it supose to be done to be fun!
Yea it really is an incredible foundation. I’m excited to see what others will add to the genre. I feel like it’s very rare these days to see a game so good and unique that it spawns a genre. Deserves all the praise
@@SuperColecolecole On Humble Bundle there is a bundle with games like Vampire Survivors! Check it out! :)

@@ClassicRedEyeThis ❤
This looks so good, especially with an aiming function! Great, ANOTHER roguelite to add to my collection 😂
more lightningstrikes with less damage seems insanely good to me, it's like 500+ damage which is way overkill
Also the upgrade for lightning strike after that is plus +75 base damage so it cancels out the -10% easily
I found your next game demo! Hellcome is a arena shooter action roguelite! love the content as always
This is exactly what I needed, thanks retro.

HA HA HA HA you were fighting the shield's health bar!!!
When a vampire survivors clone is more of a diablo game than diablo 4

Im playing it after i saw you video.
Pretty much fun. I think im gonna buy it.
I can't wait for this genre to absolutely blow up! Game looks sick! Thanks for the video
It has lol. There's as many cheap clones of vs coming out as there was minecraft, pubg clones, and binding of issac. For like half a year now.
...not even talking about _Fart Nite_ ;)

I like how it wasn't afraid to have an "ah fresh meat!" Moment.
thanks to made this video i see a lot of pontential for this game cant wait for the full game
Really liked this game. Thx for checking it out 👍
Hope to see a series on this once it's fleshed out more.
All I can think off with that sound is...
What's that? A vegan congress?

games actually nuts, cant wait to see more
More of this please!
I love Vampire Survivors. So I am definitely picking this one up.
Does it have that "combine two get extra effect" mechanic? I think it is suck a compelling progression to not have.
would love to see more of this
This is definitely one to put on the Watchlist
I played a good bit of this, and the seemingly big power increase you felt from 1st run to 2nd is definitely just because the archer is a stronger character overall and less so the meta-progression.
what do you mean by metacurrency and metaprogress??? can you explain please
Well that goes on my wishlist instantly lol
diablo 1 is totaly my bag baby
i love the graphics i wish they made action rpg with this.

omg that seems so fun, but please upgrade the needles u hovered it every single time and never clicked lol
Wishlisted. This looks just as fun as vampire survivors

I want this game be released. 😸
The games out now
more please!!
All of these games would be so good in an arcade cabinet....
How is this on steam deck?
"reverse bullet hill thats not afraid to actually throw attacks at you" get into higher curse on soulstone survivors and run out of red circles constantly
does this game work with a controller?
It's like a tower defense game, except you're the tower.
Or "Bullet hell: opposite day edition" since the player is usually the one more focused on ranged attack. Bullet heaven???
Amazing game! thanks so much for opening my eyes, looking forward for it. sucks its unplayable on the mac :(

I hope that i can pull so much enemies in diablo 4!
I can't playthiskind of games on PC, i need it in smartphones.
and here i thought i was over roguelites...
Retro apparently doesn't like meta-progress...Shawking!!111one :P
truly earth shattering
You should try Rogue: Genesia!
That meta progress isnt TOO bad... It looks like maybe 5-10 levelups worth or something... lol it could be better I guess. Hooefully the other "biomes" have increased starting difficulty to make up for it?
the term for this type of game isnt Bullet heaven? instead of reversed bullet hell?
there is no agreed upon term, I don't really like the term bullet heaven myself. It is already a game franchise, and it doesn't represent many of the genres very well.
I love this
Game seems to resummon a lot tighter so moving into a new screen repopulates

There should be a dynasty warriors version
Oh god, not another Vampire Survivor game.
I commented how a Diablo style vampire survivor would be great ages ago on some video. I like to think they read it and were inspired by it!
This game looked terrible and after 5 minutes I was *completely* into it!

This feels slow compared to the other arena survival games that I've seen like Brotato, Soul Stone Survivors etc.
Fun little fame so far
I like the design but the numbers in this game feel off. As far as I can tell there's no such thing as a "pop-off" run, if that makes sense.
"you need movement speed for this build" proceeds to pick attack speed and other attributes over movement speed, every time it's available
Reverse bullet hell… you mean bullet heaven? Or just survivor game?
Ok
annoying treadmill stuff? wtf you talking about lmao. the grind is the best part
You should value your time more if you think that. I can understand someone thinking they like it, but best part is a huge stretch.

Other than aesthetic this game is boring lol
How can you hate on the small upgrade treadmill system this game has and then love Brotato’s even bigger progression system?
1) You missed the point entirely. You don't unlock literal strength in Brotato. That is why it is my favorite reverse bullet hell, it is the only one that threw that bad practice away. You don't have to grind for 10 hours to play a properly balanced experience, and 20 hours to make the game easy.
