      Quark has nothing common with yoghurt...just saying.
      Quark is the basic product for making any kind of cheese when it is processed further either into any kind of cream cheese or any kind of soft cheese or any kind of hard cheese...Quark is basically the product of the very first step of the cheese making process, where milk got divided into pure milk-protein (= Quark) and whey...the technical term for the common speech term Quark is "Weißkäse" = in english "Curd cheese"
      Quarkbällchen are actually very easy to make..done in 30 minutes...I found a recipe in english and I truely suggest to try it out..
      selber-machen-selbstgemacht.de/en/quarkbaellchen-baecker-selber-machen-homemade-curd-balls-bakery/
      But I highly recommend to use clarified butter (Butterschmalz) instead of oil for frying, trust me.

    "Quark" - The difference to yogurt is curdling the milk with the addition of animal rennet. Yogurt is made by adding a bacteria to the milk.
    Curd is basically the first step in making cheese. The next stages of maturity of cheese would be cottage cheese and cream cheese.

    I am an american who has lived away from America for over 40 years. I lived some years in Germany including Essen!!! I agree with you about the "cute little rolls" (brotchen) they are so easy and lovely to make sandwiches with. I also love Milka chocolate - and "Ritter" not sure if I remember that correctly but those are my favorite. Germany is excellent with Musli and the varieties are lovely. I also miss the smoked/cured meats (which are not so popular in England - where I now live) but one can buy them at a price. "Sprudel" the carbonated water is also something I love.

    There are more but 3000 different typs of bread in germany,depending on region and season. From very sweet in christmas time to quite salty.Try every bread u can and choose ures.

    How to pour HefeWeizen
    Hefe Weizen Bier = cool it, then pour it down the side of a Weizenbierglas very slowly, so that it doesn't foam so much, but leave a gulp in the bottle.
    When most of the beer is poured, slosh the remaining beer around in the bottle to loosen the Hefe (yeast) that is stuck on the bottom of the bottle.
    Then add this last part to your beer making it way cloudier and tastier.
    This works only with Hefe Bier. There is no left over yeast in Pilsner.

      actually the Cocoa is from Ghana, Togo or the Ivory Coast, I am not sure where the sugar is from and the milk could actually be swiss, but I doubt these days that any of the products is from Switzerland ... it was just "assembled" there and most of the revenue stayed in Switzerland.

    I'm German and I like a lot of the stuff in your video too, but:
    Sparkling Water tastes very boring after a while if you are used to it, so I swap it out for other beverages.
    I really like Müsli, but the one with fruits I hate, cause it has raisins in it. Same for cakes and bakeries, and Studentenfutter.
    Müllermilch as well as Eiskaffee (Cold Coffee) are something I really like, but the only downsize is, that Müllermilch is kinda expensive. In Swabia you pay 99 cts for a 400ml Bottle of it :|, but the taste is worth it. :)
    Joghurts are great too, and I like "Joghurt mit der Ecke" from Müller a lot :)
    Expensive chocolate would be Lindt, which are so delicious, but so expensive. That's why they are usually used as a birthday gift or christmas gift.
    Due to Corona, last years Christmas Market sadly was canceled, I really wanted a Bratwurst this year :(

    Just a hint, anything that says Schinken is ham of some sort. Anything with Speck in the name is some form of bacon. And I think you were not referring to Lachs which is salmon, I guess you were referring to Lachsschinken, which ia a very lean type of Schinken. You might be confused as you probably only see our "Gekochter Schinken" as ham. But we have a lot of raw (ham) Schinken (that is smoked or cured), which is what you have here.

    • @EllieandLucas
      @EllieandLucas  3 года назад +1

    • @wmf831
      @wmf831 3 года назад

      @@EllieandLucas ah, ok. I understand. It's true, we have smoked and cured salmon in slices which we eat either on bread/baguette possibly with some slices of hardboiled egg and maybe some thinly sliced rings of onion (really anybody can do as they like, but you might find it like this on breakfast rolls [Brötchen/Semmeln/Schrippen *] in a bakery. But of course you also find the raw fresh or frozen salmon that you can prepare in the oven or pan, as you are probably used to.
      [* I forget in which part of Germany you live, the name for the breakfast rolls differs throughout Germany and some names for bakery items can be especially confusing. I am thinking of Krapfen (Bavaria/South Germany) which are also Berliner Ballen or short Berliner (in the Rhein Ruhr area - a Berliner is also a citizen of Berlin) and are called Pfannkuchen (pancake) in Berlin. Basically it is very similar to doughnuts it taste and preparation. And to make things worse a Pfannkuchen (pancake) can be called Eierkuchen or Palatschinken (no ham involved) in other parts of Germany.
      So basically even as a German you are screwed if you move around. Which I did and had to learn everything new, starting from how you greet people. I have lived in the US, Italy and in various places in Germany and there is one thing I learned: just go with it and stop wasting time and energy with comparisons and finding differences. Instead focus on the jmportant: enjoying live as it is - wherever you are. ]

      Christopher Czaja Sager Yes, sugars are the building blocks of carbohydrates but what I say she is saying is that there is a extra sugar added to the fruit in the US. That might account for Germany doing better in the health stakes- Germany = 23.6%; US = 38.2%. In ranked tables of average BMI USA ranks equal 20th and Germany equal 77.
      So the idea that all those breads are bad is not fully true- In a balanced diet with minimal refined sugars and some exercise it’s perfectly acceptable.

    Quark has nothing to do with youghurt

      that is debatable- both come from milk, and quark is often placed by yoghurt in the grocery stores. It was the best way I could think of explaining it to our American viewers

      You are correct, it is in fact a lot of junk food, but there's quite a good reason for that. We can get broccoli, apples, strawberries, bananas, carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, beets, grapes, turnips, radishes, lettuce, cilantro, potatoes, peaches, pears, blueberries, raspberries, noodles, beef, pork, chicken, salmon. This list goes on. In the USA. And what you might have noticed from the title of this video is we wanted to talk about what we will miss. the things that are hard to come by in the USA, and potentially other parts of the world. So while it is all high in carbs (which I'm not even saying is a good or bad thing), don't just assume you know what our diet or nutritional ideas are. Thanks for watching the video :)

      It seems clear you are just here to be unhappy. That is fine, you are welcome to continue watching our videos and hate every minute of them, but to be blunt, there are more than a few people in this community who enjoy what we do, and enjoy the foods we've talked about. If you don't like beer, that's fine, but I can think of many adults that do. I also know many adults that enjoy Milka chocolate and German bread. Simply put, if enjoying these foods, and telling our audience about them makes us children, then I'm glad to be one, because at least I will continue to be youthful and less scornful. Thanks again for watching the video :D

      aww thanks! I suppose the exact pronunciation of certain words probably comes down to what part of the USA we come from right? For instance bag is also pronounced differently in different USA regions
