I put my iPhone on zoom and took a picture of a 1/6 Super Duck female head sculpt, then went back to zoom the eyes in the photo and found there's more going on then you can see with the naked eye. It's almost like they used an actual photo of an eye and made a decal then put clear over it. Try it if you have a chance and let us know what you think.

I use a variety, but depending on the size of the figure it changes. For instance I may paint a 1/35th head with a size 1 or 2 but change out to a 00 or 000 for the eyes. Larger scale such a 1/16th of 1/10th mostly a size 1 or 2. If you have a quality brush with a nice point and "snap" you could potentially use a # 1 or 2 exclusively. Hope that makes sense? Cheers!
Your welcome! I would use a #2 or #3 as it holds more paint and you won't have the brush dry out before you put paint to the area. The smaller the brush the quicker the tip of it will dry.
Hi there, for small scale, 1/35 or 1/16, what is the colour mix for eye white? I used to mix white with little yellow to tune down the pop eye effect. Even in 1/16 scale, painting eye is still too small for middle age eye , haha!
Yes, correct. Never use pure white for the eye ball. In 35th keep the colour the same as the flesh areas or you could go with a medium grey. 1/16th scale use light grey of off white. Pure white just makes a figure look "toy like" IMO. Cheers.

Hello! I never tried to do a paintjob and I never painted at all in my life (I'm 36) but few days ago I bought a couple of 1/12 heads unpainted. I'm a very beginner and I don't know where/how to start! Just few questions: If I get wrong how can I undo? How can I remove the paint? For the job you've done at 9:15, if you should give a price, how much could be?
viola0livido Thanks m8! It depends what kind of paint your using... oils, acrylic or enamels. With oils or enamels just use white spirit or odourless thinner to remove it. Acrylics just start over and paint over the previous mistakes. Just remember with acrylics to thin with water, don’t paint straight out of the bottle. I’m not sure what you mean by price... for what?

It really depends on the scale but using the biggest brush with a really good tip is best. If the figure is small let's say 1/35th I'd use a "00" or "0" but for larger scales I'm using a "2" or "3". The trick is to make sure the paint is thin enough to flow off the brush nicely... also try a little drying retarder so the paint doesn't dry as fast. Hope that helps and happy modelling! 🙌
@@eddie1003751130 Not sure if I show it directly being used or not. Here's a general idea of how I use it. 2 or three drops of paint lets say any type with the dropper bottle spout. Then adda couple drops of retarder to the paint. Does that make sense?
@@SmallSoldier Your video is excellent. I too use W&NS7's. Some are so old but still like new. Not expensive when you think how long they last. I have always wondered if anyone else holds the head in one hand whilst painting eyes with the other? I have always thought that with both hands on the move it makes it harder. I have never yet found a way to get the head held still while I paint eyes. No matter what I have tried it just is never quite in the right spot :)
Thanks, Mozzy! I've had some of my series 7 brushes for more than 20 years., incredible when you think of it. Nothing lasts this long anymore. I configured a rig for painting the large head but yes holding them gives me the most control over what I'm doing.
@@SmallSoldier hi, the one where you paint the eyes on the 1/4 scale. I need to get some good brush but very smal to paint eyes for me its the hardest to do i need the end of the brush to be kinda hard if you know what i mean. But didnt find the brush i need yet.
Those were Winsor Newton series 7 brushes. I use #0, 1, 2, 00 and sometimes 000. Hope that helps. Cheers. PS I recently pick up some Artis Opis brushes so you may want to look at those as well.

What kind of brushes do you use? I have a hard time keeping a point on any that I have to get that tight for detail.
Winsor & Newton Series 7 are what I use but I've heard great things about Rafael brushes as well.

Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes. Sizes preferred are 000, 00, 0, 1 and 2 depending on the scale of the figure.
