  • I’m test riding the Royal Enfield Himalayan and giving my first impressions. From all the hype about this bike, I might have had different expectations about it.

    I just need a donkey to haul some stuff reliably and not break the bank. Not looking to go across continents. Commuting and carrying but still fun are the main goal.

    My only complaint with mine is the lack of power which will hopefully be resolved once the 450/650 models come out.

    • @TwoWheeledHepkat
      @TwoWheeledHepkat  Год назад +2

      I was very unimpressed by the power. I really think the 650 would make this bike more competitive in the ADV/Dual Sport market.

    I really like the Himalayan. I'm 5'6 so the low seat height would be great for me. One question: what's the use of a skateboard with square wheels?!?

    • @TwoWheeledHepkat
      @TwoWheeledHepkat  Год назад +3

      Yeah, the lower seat would be perfect for you. I’m just a little cramped, but a taller seat for me would make the bike better. Square wheels only look square. They’re called Shark wheels. Because of the shape of them, they can ride over little stones and twigs that would normally stop other wheels. They’re great for cruising and street riding. I haven’t tried them on the half pipe yet but they’re very smooth rolling wheels.

    it's a tractor bike. Can crawl up gnarly grounds

      It did seem like it had a lot of torque. I believe this bike works best on slower, rougher roads.

    The back brake is not that good, but it is not that bad either, if that is their try out bike the odds are that someone with big feet, or maybe more than one has been riding with the brake depressed as i did the first time i took mine out. Still i quickly found out how to adjust them after that.

      Good to know. When riding off road you really need the rear brake to grab to help in tight cornering and steep hills.

      Products are designed and made for the average size person which is about 5’ 9”. (That’s a world wide average) I’m 6’ 2”, so I’m 5” over average. I’ve gotten used to things feeling too small for me.

    I liked your review of the Himalayan, honest how do I know, I own one, as well a RE Conti GT 650. My first bike was a 1980 Honda XL 250s. I was also into air cooled VW"s my last Beetle was a 1962 ragtop of which I gave to my son. I'm gonna subscribe. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    I didn't know it was considered a dual sport, I thought they were like the old scramblers (semi-capable).
    Great review!!

    • @TwoWheeledHepkat
      @TwoWheeledHepkat  Год назад +2

      I know some people call this an ADV bike, but after my test ride, I was talking to the RE rep and told him this felt more like a dual sport than an ADV and he said that even RE considers this a dual sport. Mainly because of its smaller engine, its lighter and the bike as a whole is smaller too. I have heard people call it a scrambler too. It’s definitely closer to a scrambler than it is to an ADV. Scrambler or dual sport is a good way to describe the Himalayan.
