I always thought those were the ruins of the Water Gap House hotel which sat up on that hill. Have you been down by the overlook just below this spot on rt. 611? That's where the Kittatinny Hotel once stood. Remnants of the two outdoor water fountains can be seen and the brick and stone kitchen ovens are still sitting there in the woods. Many people pull into the parking lot and look at the river not realizing the parking lot is where the hotel once stood. Head west into a woods just about 30 yards and you'll find the ovens and rock walls that made up the kitchen.
That place is ruins from The Water Gap House, you can find pictures online that shows a beautiful garden that surrounded the hotel as well, amazing area!
When you search Google Earth for the Antoine Dutot homestead the map marker is at the museum in town, but the linked image that pops up is identical to the ruins you identified as his home. I enjoy seeing you explorations. And you are like a kid in a candy store when you see new ruins 😊. Can't blame you, I react the same. I haven't been to PA since 2015. I wasn't able to explore much at the time as I was working 6 days a week. Can't wait to get back up there and explore some of these awesome sites. Great video as always! ETA Love the Empress pattern Mercer Pottery! Not sure when that pattern was introduced but prior to 1873 most Mercer Pottery was plain white. So the plate probably dates to sometime between 1873 and the 1930s when Mercer went out of business.
Just love the stonework, they were brilliant in those days. The area looks lovely. I can understand your distraction so much to see. Thanks for taking me along
Hi Cliff. Just viewed your tour of Dutotsburg...a nice look at the history of the area. There is another interesting ruin just east of the main ruins (towards the river & Rt 80) maybe a hundred yards away just before the drop-off to the Delaware River. Its rectangular in shape & appears to be of newer construction. The main trail from the parking lot splits a bit above where you went left. If you continue on the fire trail past the A-trail ( which goes left), the next right goes to a great overview. I believe it's called table top & has a neat barrens area with flat rocks & small dwarf pines. It's one of my favorite sites in the Water Gap area.
Love all that old stone. Such a gorgeous spot. I would be like you just wanting to take it all in not knowing which way to start. Would definitely be an amazing spot to live minus the traffic noise.Thank you for the interesting history and sharing all this beauty. Hope you get time to return. Would be very beautiful in the snow. :)
I'm glad you are doing what you're doing. I am from Lebanon, PA and have been to many places you're visiting. Since growing up in S/E PA I have been around the country and seen and lived in beautiful places but I still love good ol' Pennsylvania. Up in northern Minnesota now. Way different but similar in a lot of ways.
I've noticed, since you've been doing your tripod footage, that everything looks much larger when you walk towards them. Things look smaller when you're carrying the camera. I've seen this with your cave and tunnel videos too. Keep up the great work. You've definitely got me hooked on your channel!
I just went to Bushkill falls after your video. I am from Westerly,RI I am a history relic hunter and am now focusing my metal detecting and history recovery in the Delaware Water Gap. Hope to run into you. You know the area. Places may interest both of us
The Mercer Pottery Company is a defunct American pottery company. The backstamp on many of its pottery pieces indicates it was founded in 1865 in Trenton
Another great video!!! Cool pottery find. There was a Mercer Pottery in Trenton, NJ that operated from 1868 until the 1930's. I bet those pieces were from that. They were probably from the hotels that sprang up in the Gap in the 1800's. You probably know this but there is an Antoine Dutot museum right in the town of Delaware Water Gap. Keep on exploring!!!
You may have found The Kittatinny Hotel....I believe Theodore Roosevelt stayed there back in the day......There's a place not far from there in Upper Mt. Bethel close to where i live called Colmcille Megalith park.......Check it out when you're back in the area
Even as I enjoy your coverage of historical and forgotten sites in PA I can't help but need to ask if you have a full time employment as teacher, where you have all this " free" time to travel and film, all expenses paid? - Do share your secret so the rest of us can do likewise ! ☺
Beautiful ruins and fall colors. Could explore there all day easily.
Iiiî it
Amazing stone structures..loved the fall colours..thanks for taking me along Cliff 😊👍
Cliff--very interesting; definitely worth a return trip
Omg what beautiful ruins !!!! I watch this one over and over , thx

Loved how excited you got when you saw all the ruins. Like a kid in a candy store.
Ground cover plant - Vinca minor.
Lots of cool ruins! There's a museum for Antoine in the area.
Use to pass through the water gap every day when I was commuting to the city to work...
Great location in The Gap! So many placed gone but not forgotten by people like you with the love of exploring
Awesome ruins. Great find.
I'm from the area some are barn foundations and chicken coop
Those concrete pillars once supported the water gap houses long front porch!👍

The ruins at 21:21 would make a great patio for a garden. It is just gorgeous. Looks like you had a beautiful day to hike and explore.
Very nice. Would take a lot of structures to make a town even back then.
Thank you. For a beautiful walk threw the woods.
The groundcover could have been Pachysandra
. We had a lot of it growing in back of our house years ago.
No video from the Halloween party? I wanted to see what bigfoot looked like from your eyes.
It will be out soon
Me too , JP !
How soon is soon.
Nice video, thank you again!
Thanks for sharing
The plant looks like common periwinkle: Vinca minor (Gentianales: Apocynaceae ...
That's the name I was trying to remember.
Great video. Thank you 👍

It does add perspective, one reason why I started doing it.

Lovely! I wouldn't mind living in a place like that.
Really interesting, Cliff. Thanks
Very cool!

The museum kept popping up during my research
Lots of history ! Thanks for your research as always !

I have thought about going there, might get there someday.
Myrtle is also called perwinkle and vinca minor.
You never found the water cistern! Its down below and still in great condition!👍
I live near here, I want to metal detect this area so bad but it's illegal. Darn it
Homes, resorts, hotels and etc., but no sign of a water source for all those homes and resorts, like a well or wells...........interesting!
There are actually two large concrete cisterns just behind the ruins.no idea how he missed them!👍🤷🏼♂️
I wonder if there is any pictures of these buildings from a local historical society
I bet there are in the Antoine Dutot museum right in the town of Delaware Water Gap. I have to go there one of these days.
I wonder when the plaque was installed. And there must have been a spring or well nearby. Maybe something to look for on a return visit.

Creeping Myrtle!! You helped me remember by saying "Myrtle". I think its also called vinca minor.
Or maybe Pachysandra
Vinca
It's all ground cover used in landscaping.
Are you a photographer also? With appreciation of these places you should be one.
See that's how well they builded things back in the day today no
Cliff do you have a gps reading for that plaque?
Not offhand, but I could get one for the general area.
The Wandering Woodsman awesome thank you

I only teach part time now. My channel is monetized so I earn money by making these videos. I also make multiple videos on each trip.
We ,his dedicated viewers pay some for him as we watch those ads that pop up during the video. Keep wandering woodsman.
Hello, how long is this place left?
Video #2 that I've commented on and liked
Did you find the grave

I have followed your site for awhile. You seem to go off the beaten path quite a bit. Have you ever gotten lost?
Can you respond to my email though?
