"Trickin Pickin" performed by Doug Waterman
I believe the birds eating the mayflies are swallows, not starlings. Swallows are the jet fighters of the bird world.
Agreed, Definitely not starlings.
here in Nebraska we call those Barn Swallows not sure if that is correct but they definitely aren't Starlings
"One swallow does not a summer make, nor one fine day; similarly one day or brief time of happiness does not make a person entirely happy."
African or European?

302 big block V8. Must of missed that one in my 50 years of being a mechanic lol.
I heard that as well 😂
@@sc1338 502 yes, definitely a big block. 302 no thats a small block ford and for just a year or two Chevrolet made a 302.
@@aaronwood3540 I’m aware 😂
What a thrill to see all that's happening in this 49.25 minutes of Seeker and crew making her way down the waters to new sights and beauty all around..Thanks Doug and Crew !!!
Most youtube videos I put on while I am doing something else but this one I just had to sit and watch.
Fantastic to watch your journey down to the sea, great crew , tasty food on board and educational too. Keep on going Doug and crew, hope one day to meet you for real. Karl
Thanks 👍
Your welcome.
Wasn't having a very good day today. Then this video popped up in my feed. Gave me a whole new perspective on my situation. Thank you for that!
“Down the Lazy River” keep on moving … loyal crew team … enjoy all these SV’s, nice cut!
So happy to see the seeker on its journey to conquer many great things! Already making wonderful memories
Doug I am totally Impressed at what you built. I am a Disabled Vet and one of my life long dreams is to get on a Boat like yours for a week. I am mobile but I move Slow. An Indian Chief named me that when I was in the Army when he saw what I did to the Command Sargent Major at Fort Hood Texas in a small Cessna 152. He saw me Dive Bomb him on Lake StillHouse and he jumped overboard. I drove for the Commanding General at the time. The Indian Chief found me at the Airport and he saw what I did from his canoe. He asked if I was flying that Airplane and I said yes. He Gave me a Headband I still have and Named me 'SLOW" Sail Low Over Water. I have been called Slow ever since my Nick Name by everyone. Now the Sargent Major called me into his office about the alleged incident and said " Well Slow looks like you Got Me Good" I knew then he knew everything. I picked up the Commanding General the next morning at his Quarters and I saluted him he Saluted back and said with a Smile, " Good Morning Slow have you ever had an invitation to an Indian Ceremony I got one and you are driving see you at 1900 hours. We are going to meet an Indian Chief and dinner. I figured I was going to Jail. Ending of the story I was inducted into the Tribe. General said you better watch you do not get your Eagle Wings clipped but you got the Sargent Major good really good. Now I want you to take me flying I never knew you were a Pilot. We had a good flight the next day. I got promoted the following month.
I watched Seeker when she was in the process of being built, but then I will wonder when I will see her travelling on the water, which should be her abode. But I thank God, I'm alive just like Doug watching her travelling from the port of Oklahoma and on her way to the High sea.
What you need is side & forward scanning sonar to make sure you find anything before you hit it. Running aground is not something you want to do very often.
I grew up fishing Lake Dardanelle. Beautiful area, great people. I miss home :(
Come home brother. We're still here

"Big block V8"
🎶 One of these things is not like the other 🎶
Doug, I use SonarPhone for my depth sounder on my fishing boat. It runs on an app on my phone. And it works with Navionics. It’s a simple transducer that mounts to the boat like normal and it goes to a Wi-Fi module. You can connect wirelessly. It can record a more detailed down image and it saves it to your Navionics maps. You might check it out, maybe you can have it record on the Hot Tamale and scout out ahead and it might help you navigate the river better.
Yes! That will be perfect! Thanks
This is where we saw you. How awesome. Was a little weird to see such an amazing sailboat when we got to the ramp. Almost thought y’all were lost lol
When building this boat, no doubt you thought how great it would be then finished and get to sail but from what i can tell its 100X better than what you expected. My takeaway is it's possible to have the best years of your life in the future and in your middle and upper years and wise enough to actually enjoy each day and moment.
One of my favorite videos.
I loved my steel gaffer. Only thing I found Was The continual maintenance and up keep, stopped me from doing a lot.
Enjoy whilst it's still enjoyable.
Congrats SV Seeker on ur tour of the River to the place where u Dock.. lv the views..
3:21 That sunset is to die for! The worst thing about moving to Colorado has been missing those midwestern sunsets.
Thanks, Seeker. I appreciate the good word you share in each video. :)
A blast seeing those familiar spots at Callaghan's--and that WAS a damn good sunset. And it was a blast following Seeker on the move down the river in this video!
When you get to the Murray lock and dam in Little Rock, look up the hill to the south and you'll see the street where I grew up!
The rivers bottom are always changing , the brown color is because of the material that the water carry from one side to the other . Good winds and soft bottoms!!
I live in Dardanelle on the river and have land in Delaware half a mile from lake Dardanelle. That center is called Lake Dardanelle Visitor Center. You ate at OLD SOUTH! Good day good day.
Doug it's interesting to see how much more relaxed you appear , looks like your getting into the grove of cruising . Well done skipper !
Hello Doug. For spot depths get a 'Hondex'. Good enough for any work and trustworthy, plus no screws!! With 'Hondex' you might have to add 'portable depth sounder' or sim to your search. They have been used for years to check all sorts of depths from small boats for all sorts of purposes. Boat-mounted sounders are great but the Honex has many advantages. Taking soundings (albeit electronic) makes the user a conscious participant in the process, especailly from a small boat, canoe or padle board etc whether as a sailing tender or for diving. HTH!
Doug: I run my boat with the radar on all the time. Even in clear days when I don’t “need” it.
I have the radar image overlay on the chart plotter. That way the radar can SEE the buoys before your naked eye.
If the buoy is where it “belongs” the radar (in my case purple) will be right on top of the buoy image.
If the buoy has moved, you will see the radar splotch in one location and the projected image of the buoy in another.
I do this mostly to keep my eyes trained for radar use. In case I get stuck in weather/fog.
I’m a recreational boater in Boston, MA.
3:15 Perfect moment. Good for you Doug! You've earned it.
It's a funny feeling hitting the bottom, your keel is bumping along the rocks, you know the channel is there and you are just on the edge of it. I think your keels will be fine Doug.
I'm 16 years old and I've already decided what I want to do with my life. I want to be a marine biologist and I want my own ship to work on, there's a lot of obstacles in my way but you've proven it can be done. So I thank you and promise you,
One day, the Leviathan will sail, and the world will hear her roar.
Don't let your passion die.
Doug, there should usually be a surge of higher water when a barge goes by ( an a corresponding ‘suck’ of lower water) that you might be able to use to get off when run aground.
Cheers Warren
Reaping your rewards Doug..Best is yet to come . Awesome stuff - Maxi Wild Justice
Navionics is pretty good out on the ocean, apparently not so much on rivers.
Sandhill cranes definitely are the rib-eye of the sky. However y’all were looking at a great blue heron.
Stern saver for transducer mount. I have one and it's works amazingly.
MOUNTING SONAR DEPTH FINDER
You can use a trolling motor brakket mount for the depth finder it works great 😎
Best 49 minutes 25 seconds ever !!!! 😁😁👍👍
the waggle dance of the scout bee!
such a trip to finally see this boat floating and moving under its own power.
We own the 44 footer sitting on the hard there in the Russellville marina. Will try to stop out on Saturday if possible and say hi.
12:50 I'd like to think that Hobo Shoestring was waving at ya
Those locks are amazing and WOW those baked goods looked great!
So good!
Love the boat. So good to see her in action - agree with what you say about the IT baker and going after your dreams... do it! We can always make more money, but never more time.
Words of wisdom. You can always slow down, so you dont hit really hard.
I came and looked at your vessel when it was harbored at the three rivers outside muskogee
Great video!!!!!!!
Doug on my 6BTA I removed the fuel solenoid internal valve and disconnected the power supply to it, I replaced it with a morse cable, the reason is because a loss of power will kill the engine which could be very hazardous. Regards Doug from New Zealand.
Yeah, that's not a bad idea. Thanks
i love the videos, especially the long ones so id like to make 2 suggestions: the guy in front of the anchor winch - NEVER STAY THERE - period and 2nd, pls don't make this a habit to make fast on a reeling... this will bite you in the ass later
thank you for the quality content and positive vibs and keep the love for the sunsets!
'This does not suck'. What an understatement. Bet this river has a lot of history.
Mount the entire sonar system to a stick that clamps to the hot Tomales...that way it can all be easily removed when not needed
Good one
today is wednesday ,flying down to russleville today, if you see small plane buzzing overhead, dont shoot me down, will try and get some pictures from the plane
Doug, I was a surveyor for a bit, and I can tell you for sure don't always trust your gps either. You will frequently be off by 50+ ft.
The depth chart shows two feet... Those depth charts pull from user supplied data so they are updated far more often than the nav charts.
What a great video. For the mounting of the sonar you could clamp a plate between your outboard bracket and transom and mount the sonar to that? I work on and build steel boats for river and canal use. Its great to see these videos.
Also a big fan of nuclear power. Served on uk nuclear submarines there safe and none polluting
I remember a hippo attack on the Disney River Boat Cruise.
Good to see the crew staying calm and able to handle a situation.
I’m with you on Nuclear power! I think the last plant was sadly commissioned in 1976.
The one on long island never got started , couldn’t come up with an evacuation plan!
Cheers Warren
You could put a CCTV camera on top of the mast to keep an eye on bridges, if it has PTZ control, it can be a remote crow's nest ;)
This is cool. TWENTY-THREE years ago, I sailed UP the Mississippi River, through the White River connector, and UP the Arkansas River from Slidell, LA (across Pontchartrain from New Orleans) to Sallisaw at the same Marina you originated (at that time, it was called Applegate Marina) in 1999. I made the return trip, downriver as you are doing, two years later in 2001. I was in a 30-foot sailboat with a 51.5 ft mast which barely fit under the standard 52' bridge on the KM Navigation system and only had an 18 HP auxiliary diesel to work through the locks. Exciting memories.
Do you want to go again? : )
@@SVSeeker I would love to. Let me know where you are in October. I will be in Scotland for most of September. Thanks for the invitation. By the way, expect the current to be MUCH stronger in the Mississippi. Sometimes, you may just THINK you are backing when the current is running at 6 knots. So, you have to overcome that, before you are actually backing. Just a word of caution, if you haven't been there, yet.
@@SVSeeker Also, I see you actually originated at Port of Catoosa. Before coming up the Mississippi, I actually originated just off Galveston Bay, in Texas and after I went back down, I eventually moved over to Ft Lauderdale, on the Atlantic. Lots of beautiful things to see and do in all those places.
@@glaster0 Leaving Dardanelle Oct 15th I'm expecting a 5 knot average in the Mississippi. Write me at svseeker@ymail.com
A good sonarmapper is the Garmin Striker series with active captain if you ran one on the Tamales and one on the Seeker you wold be able to share the data real time using the Garmin active captain app
How would one PM you regarding the Garmin system
I got a Hawkeye handheld depth sounder, very handy, even from the kayak
It was great ridin along with you all, such a great reward for all your work , it’s all paying off, just great❤️🇺🇸❤️! Oh yeah, it was also inspirational seeing my blue chicken coop on the “what did you make today”…thanks for sharing your adventure Doug!
Really enjoyed this video nice people nice times enjoy life is too short. I start sailing next year as I am having a boat built by apprentices in France at the Skol ar Mor boat building school. The boat is an American cat boat with a cuddy. I am involved in the design and planning and the sail is to de designed by a top French boat designer. I just pay for the wood and the sail. If you are interested there a videos to watch on you tube. As for SV Seeker she is now alive on the water superb.
" They just pulled it's feathers and vacuumed sealed it live." NO...lol that gave me a chuckle...lol That definitely would've been a great view of those cabooses while you were motoring under that bridge. cool man those pork chops look good. Your getting me hungry Doug....no wonder, its suppertime. So awesome to finally see you on the move. cheers have a good one Doug.
As a welder I watched a lot of your build, watched your launch. Good job she floats. You said come and look Saturday but didn't post till Monday.....
I SWEAR TO GOD THAT CHICKEN BLINKED.
302 ci sounds good!!!
Mamy remembers, when you started your endeavour,
Anyway.
I'm glad your life will be with winds soon
Godspeed adventure goes on.
Awesome!
Really cool, Doug!
You can buy a portable hand held electronic depth finder for about $70 !
Just came to mind, you once said you hoped that you'd have a diesel outboard, so you wouldn't have to carry petrol onboard. Nissan made them, I think it was 27 horsepower. Not sure, if it's too small though. And propably someone said this allready. And glue some thick plastic to the boat, and then drill the depthsensor to that.
The Birds were Eating the Shit out of the May Fly's !!
That’s a Blue Herron, not a Sandhill Crane. Similar looking and easy to mistake. The sandhill has a red head.
How is the new torque converter working? How about the variable pitch mechanism?
IDEA!
Not sure if it would work, but could you put the depth sounder probe into the tamale’s drop down bow?
That would keep the hole you put in up above the waterline when you aren’t using it and it’d only be a part that can come off anyhow that’s getting messed with.
Over here in Australia we call those beautiful little birds swallows. I walk my dog across this huge grass paddock area and the swallows follow us, they circle both me and the dog catching little bugs that we stir up as we walk around. It's amazing how fast they fly and how close they get to both me and the dog. At times theres dozens going crazy around us and I've noticed people filming us, its a bit of a spectacle for people who never engage with nature much
Beautiful?? They nest in anything they can find & crap everywhere. Beautiful isn't quite the right word (YES, I'm an Aussie too!) we hate them with a passion!!
I think he was mistaken, those are called swallows here too.
14:12 Those Sand Hill Cranes look like the meat from the Muscovy. We have a flock of them and they sure are delicious.
Toujours avec vous de FRANCE 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾
Doug, for mounting to hot tomale, that 3m body molding tape is good stuff, mounted lots of stuff to my semi with it over the years.
Nuclear reactors are sweet! We need more of them.
We need an explanation why there is no bow underwater Livestream
Awesome. I am short of putting in the water. Good journey sir
Another great journey , thank you!
You bet!
You might look into a stern pad. They sell them on Amazon. If I understood what you were talking about.
This is great stuff! Love it!
Real nice catch to go under the train bridge with a train running. Plus the toot!
I saw that bridge an thought, wouldn't it be cool for a train to come now.
If you ever make it to Lewiston Idaho, I would love to see the Seeker some day - but you just have to make it to the west coast first :)
Idaho?
@@SVSeeker Yep - The Port of Lewiston is in Idaho. Most inland port in the west - up the Columbia/Snake river system. The trip from where you are to here would be a DOOSIE. Guess the Panama canal would be the only way. Now that would be a cool video series, taking the Seeker through the Panama canal
Maybe I’m way behind and out of the loop on this, but is there any plan to try and reduce engine noise in the cabin? Seems a little annoying? What a fun thing to watch though! I remember you swinging around in the back yard with that other wild man and the telehandler madness. Damn thing actually floats! Great content! Thanks guys
Get a hand held depth sounder. Waterproof- looks like a flashlight.
that was so cool.
that cummins sounds so good.
Waiting for your next video.
Maybe its time for you to make a video and share what you love.
I could not agree more nuclear power is a long term answer. In 2012 I purchased outright 12k in PV solar panels and 3 hot water panels I cut my power bill by 60% both system have operated flawlessly ever since. However they are not a substitute for oil, gas and nuclear no way. Think about it? The last nuclear power plants were built when RadioShack had vacuum tube testers in their stores we have come a long way since then so safety concerns can be answered by modern technology, systems and design tools.
Are those used school bus windows in the cabin ?
So you scratched the bottom of the boat and dinged it up? How do you fix that?
Great vid Doug , don’t eat all the cakes !😂😂👍🏻
@ 35:34 Doug you are so dag gum inspirational. I mean that. Words of wisdom spoken here. Get out there and do it! I love it. No regrets.
jerry instead of putting screws in your boat, put your mounting bracket on your transom
with an epoxy. I really enjoy your ride. good luck and good boating.
