I played this game religiously for years. I finally quit when we waited almost 2 years for an update and all we got was new skins in the cash shop. Gave up to the developers giving up basically.

I have never bought stuff for gold and have got everything the game has. it's not like in another games that has guns you can only obtain for real money. it has some grind (they promise to fix it sequel), but it's not the game like BF or CoD that born and die within one year, like butterflies. such games have to make the top guns unlockable in a day or two, yes. but this is not required here.

Feel bad for you mate. I know personally i played since 2016 or so and yeah i kinda felt the same way, use to watch your videos back in those days. Was good shit my man. I tend to lurk in the shadows but i think i watched most of those videos of the old HNG, it was a whole different beast back then and i can imagine for a proper content creator like yourself it can't be very fun when one of the main games being on the channel just basically takes and entire 180 turn. Sadly I personally i got very little hope for this game ever happening, but personally i feel it won't be the same as retos own engine, but will just feel close to something like hell let loose or post scriptum simply nothing really that funny in terms of gameplay. And i got a personal kind of take on stuff that usually ends up in unity or unreal. It goes by the saying of "Dead out of the gate." Sad truth about many unity games and unreal games these days. But i hope to, if of course this game happens you'll make us some content for good ol' times sake.
The original developers made numerous mistakes and have not listened to the community. I can now count at least ten changes that killed the original gameplay, but the biggest thing that killed this game, in my opinion, is the lack of new maps. It was a great experience playing this game and it was the game like no other, one of its kind.
Mostly making most weapons shit and making new player suffer to grind for end tier weapons which are basically god tier. No wonder no one want to grind this by instantly die 5000 times in a row from god tier weapons

10 years old player here of HG, thank you for this video. HG is a unique ww2 game with a unique combination of FPS + RTS, which over the years had the most fanatical community. It needs to be stated in the video or next videos, that TLM is new developer team, and HG old which was acquired from old company who original made the game. TLM comes with a new fresh air into their new project. This game - Heroes and Generals - the only most important thing that is lacking and is far behind is their graphics - and even so, the only graphics of the terrain, of buildings , of environments, all the rest looks still ok after so many years!
The idea of the game is gold, playing an fps game with rts resources of other players all ongoing in a big battle on a warmap in Europe. Every headshot you make, every tank you destroy matters and will make another player happy or angry. I am very hyped about this and have pledged. Bad development decisions and outdated graphics by the old developer made the game crumble. Hope to see you all in Heroes & Generals 2!

Heroes and Generals was one of my favorite WW2 games, very punishing and rewarding at the same time. You really feel the rush when your team coordinates as squad deaths have a very significant impact on your gameplay and mission success, respawning several minutes behind the front lines is a big motivator to not rush or die carelessly. I hope they can meet their goals, I think the RTS portion of the game was very unique and this team deserves keeping the H&G spirit alive.
You got fucked by the progression system, then. Having Heavy Set players with STGs, SVTs or M1/M2s to fight while you have nothing but a semi-auto and a dream is a rough place to be.

@@cypressgold I personally eventually loved playing stock characters with no perks. I just disagree about gun feel. It fit my preference and felt really deliberate. Even the stock guns. I criticize the power gap between the toys and the grind, not the actual feel. The game failed for a lot of reasons. For me, it wasn't the responsiveness of the arms.
Played few hundreds of hours on H&G before. It was a wild experience, it got unique gamestyle that you can't see on other mainstream games today. P2W was an issue ever since Alpha of the game. Got bored since there were no friends of mine that got interested to that game. Memories on that game will be remembered...
One thing that is missing in this video is, that the footage of the new HnG 2 is actually just a tech demo to show what it possible with Unreal Engine 5. Personally I have pledged 750 for HnG 2 as the people responsible for the dumb decisions back then aren't around anymore and I am also a long time player of HnG2 and do really hope for the kickstarter campagin to succeed. Back in the day we always joked within the community they should just do a HnG 2 on the unreal engine, well now is the chance for it to happen. Unfortunately there are still a lot of players that have been burnt and don't trust the new TLM team, which is really a shame, but you can't blame them. I just hope many of them find peace and can finally let go of all the negative memories. Like many other stated the combination of FPS & RTS is unique and I can tell you that although we had the same maps over and over again, it never got boring because of the RTS Part. Every match had a different setup ressourcewise and could change at any given moment from an infantry fight to an all out vehicle mayhem. Especially paratropper missions were the most difficult but also the most exciting. I hope to see everybody soon in Heroes & Generals 2 !
I'm not against another H&G game, but I'm not exactly too hopeful for it. A lot of games these past few years have left a bitter taste in my mouth, especially considering how they were marketed beforehand (aka lies and broken promises). We'll see how this plays out.
I remember playing the game back in my teens growing up. Game was janky at best and was overall an alright game for the time, but they royally screwed themselves with the development decisions, lack of new content in a timely manner, and lets not forget their their horrible moderation staff that would ban your account without justification/reason or if they had one it was petty whilst still allowing hackers to remain whom would even admit to it in the in match chat with the names of the hacks they were using, programs and all. Frankly, seems suspicious that they would be asking for such a huge amount of money for a game that's been in decline for years that they're now trying to make a sequel to... Good luck to them is all I can say but I'm looking forwards to more HLL and WWII online: chokepoint once that release to get the WWII fix.
I understand why they are shutting it down the problem is how they are going about it along with expecting a high Kickstarter goal is not realistic, and it comes across suspicious.
This is such a weird situation. $3 million on kickstarter after they've been charging money for battle passes and starter packs. Then lowering it to $2 million as if it's a reasonable goal. The backer tiers are not worth it as they're all for in game title card colors and vehicle skins. Unless you drop a ton of money. The highest tier is spending a week in Vegas with the team during development and having dinner with them but they only cover 2 nights in a hotel for you. That tier most likely covers them partying in Vegas. They also titled it Heroes and Generals: The Next War. But it's still World War II? Poor title choice if you ask me.
Doesn't need that much money it doesn't cost much to host a server they are just greedy. I host servers and have for a year straight Costs nothing to host and they are always full of players using bandwidth even got a fast dl hosting aswell.
The whole TLM rhetoric is screwed. Why shut the old game before a new final version of the game is created? Or why not lower the target and create a game slightly less ambitious for like 500K USD? They are telling us to support them but I think that in the meantime they have a plan which could be shortly expressed as "we want to profit on this game and if you don't give us the money, we don't care and will delete it altogether". What is more, I think that even from a business perspective it does not make sense - many people were buing gold for real money in the old game, so it generated some revenue. The new game will generate none if it will be never created. (And still, if one of the reasons for shutting the old game was that the revenue from gold bought by players did not cover the costs for developing the game, the cannot expect that the new game will be profitable unless it attracts many more players. I think they are just saying politely "we dont care and will delete the game altogether without a substitute if you dont give us money")
YES exactly how does nobody else see this. If they miraculously reach their goal they'll make the most basic excuse for a game and run away with the money. If they don't reach the goal it will be a great alibi for them. "Oh players are not interested in H&G anymore, so we are shutting down. It's all your fault guys, we wanted to make the sequel!"

The developers largely ignored over the years any real updates or improvements to the game. I love the game and played it for years, however with little updates except really for some skins, the game became dated fast.
For a full game release $2M is actually pretty conservative to make one but probably not realistic for them to come up with unless they get it by a miracle somehow.
Pay2win killed this game. It's there fault. I feel no sympathy. If this game was like Foxhole where all the soldiers were very standardized. It would have survived.
I started playing Heroes and Generals in the summer of 2014. Somehow it was better back then, even though there was less ‘content’. Reto had their problems but were constantly holding dev streams to keep us up to date on what was happening. I guess they weren’t doing so well financially and they sold it. I stopped playing about 6 months ago and I won’t miss it. The H&G I used to love died a long time ago!
Fair point, I'm playing since 2014 too. Played yesterday evening, and it was still pretty fun. Loads of bots yeh, but enough online players still out there to keep it fun in my opinion. I got everything I wanted from H&G, but I never spend 1$ in almost 10 years. It's probably people like me who were the problem hahaha.... Oh well, I'm really gonna miss it.
I used to play H&G religiously around 2015-2016. I played it a few years back too, lots of changes. Noticed that i missed my chance to get a few unique veteran helmets. Had a rare orage-ish skin on the Gewehr 43 that wasn't able to get anymore, etc etc. Was really proud of my progress. It is sad to hear that the old game is going down. Games like Post Scriptum or HLL lack the type of spin-off where there's a RTS player-controlled map to give that feel that after the match you just played it's not just a meaningless waste of time, but actually makes progress for your faction, also, some technical issues with the new games just mentioned is the fact that anyone could aim while standing right infront of a wall or a tree. H&G fixed this issue blocking the aiming animation from happening, it also had some very good bipod surface placement. I din't hear any news about this game and i suddently found this video. I really hope the project gets to be completed, along with a good needed update on the graphics and character animations to a more fluid movement.
They have reduced the number to 2 million now, its a great concept of a game, and I believe that H&G2 could be better than a lot of AAA titles. Not many games that are this outdated maintain such a loyal fanbase, especially without funding from huge businesses, it really shows how great of a game this is. Third, If the money isn't raised, no money is charged from peoples bank accounts, so there is no harm pledging. Fourth, the average player of h&g is an adult, with money to spend. The average pledge will be higher than most games in kickstarter. Fifth, both the developers, and the community are promoting the game tirelessly. Sixth, and finally: "What are you smoking?" @@malachi5707 Even if we assumed all 1.5 thousand average players were loyal fans willing to make this happen, that's 1333 dollars per person. Even if we teleported back to those peak 20 thousand players in 2016, it would still be a 100 bucks per person. That said, the real issue I take with things like this is not the harm in pledging. You are correct that if they fail to raise the money then your card will not be charged. The harm isn't in pledging, it's in it succeeding. If they do reach their goal, your money is taken and they are under no obligation to ever fulfill their promise to you (Kickstarter TOS states they merely need to try make good on their promises). If they fail to deliver then its tough nuts. You can contact them, and if they have integrity they will refund your money. Otherwise, your only option so long as they're meeting Kickstarter's incredibly low bar is through legal action. And have fun doing that as you'll almost certainly spend more money on legal fees than you would get back, and that's if you even win. The idea of paying someone for a product or service that largely relies on their word and trust, and with essentially zero options of getting your money back if something goes wrong is a bit insane to me. There will always be exceptions, and I do not dispute that, but those are often for more trustworthy kickstarters, with good communication and a positive past. Heroes and Generals does not have that. They have an incredibly shady past, muddied with poor communication, failure to deliver on promises, monetization that bordered, and often crossed over into, the pay to win area, and they failed to optimize their game at all. I hope they get to make this game, and I hope it's as good as everyone wants it to be. That said, do I honestly expect that? No, I don't even fully expect it to get made, let alone be good. And I think anyone donating any large amount of money is being foolish. 5 dollars? Sure, what's the real harm? 30 bucks or more? 100 bucks? Horrible idea.
HG seems to be a good game for a throwback to classic arcadey multiplayer shooters but all I remember when I tried it out was it feeling super janky which kind of ruined it for me

UE5 is much more optimized, I also struggle to run H&G1 but can run much higher demanding games on better engines smoothly, H&G2 might work on our rigs, we can hope :)
They had something nice, could have done many nice things. But then they fully aswiped the game and flushed it down. I played pretty much since it started. And i always saw any and all potential and every time they wasted it and did nothing or made useless things like the snowballs and stuff made me rly sad.
I played Heroes and Generals for a long time. Game at the start was good, but over the years, bad patches and releases ruined the game. Developers did not listen to the community, or if they did, only very little. There was no competitor before, but now games such as Enlisted is winning the hearts and minds of the players. If you enjoy HnG, you will 100% enjoy Enlisted.
I remember playing this back when it used to be a browser based game. It was so addicting and fun even if I had very low frames and horrible resolution back then.
Sad but also understandable that H&G is shutting down, Honestly one of the best WWII shooter's out there, enlisted is good but the moment to moment gameplay in H&G is better IMO. Hopefully we will see H&G 2 news after this stupid fundraiser fail's because we all know it's going to. I just don't believe that someone would buy a game company just to cancel there product and do nothing with there IP, No company could be that stupid.
As someone who been playing the game since CBT (Eisenhower build) I must say that devs made many bad decisions or lack o good ones that esentially ruined the game while it also became outdated. Still it was a good game for it's time and i found a real life friend from it so it was worth it despite the fact that the game met it's demise which it meant to met. Overall my advise to devs would be to spend less money on beer for dev streams.
4 year player here and this game was the dank for a time then the updates took a turn for the worst and development became a unbearable slog to wait for just to be utterly disappointed even when the loyalty to the homies and fun memories can hold me on for a time updates were what pushed me out
Yes, After this the game has finally ended. May 25 2023 yesterday . I played this game since 2017 it was ok new and improved games don't have the same feel to them and well upgrading this game was a whole other story. Destine for failure without funding and advances in game play respectfully. A lot of people have survivors of Ww2 in there family and well the super game player was not needed for this game it was just a way to give some input on how we the later generation perceived it. I played H&G since 2014, was fun game back then back few years down the line decisions were made that the community didn’t like. Reto Moto (before TLM took over) didn’t always listen to community feed back and said things they told back all the time. Wish could be in better state but all things have to come to an end. Also it being reduced from 3 to 2 million is odd, questions what that extra million is for?🤔 who knows, I mean could be for the debt of the game but if the Kickstarter fails, everyone gets their money back.
I played this game in 2013 although at that time I had a very bad computer, one or two years later I would get one that would allow me to play more often, for personal reasons and because in my country the economy is being destroyed I could not continue playing, I started working to try to buy a much better computer and play it again, two years ago I could not return and now I find out that the game will close, I can not explain the sadness that generates me this news and even worse seeing the sequel that does not seem to be very good. I really enjoyed this game and I wanted to get even more things that I could not try now they are not even going to give us veterans something in the sequel which makes me even sadder.
Aaaaaannnnd this is why I never buy multiplayer only games. No campaign, no single player, no buy. Because at any given moment they can just pull the plug and goodbye game.
The latest update that they just did nerfed the stand alone tank game where you could play for hours and hardly get any credits.( Most of the credits now you earn being used for upkeep for the tank you use). They're not getting a dime from me.. All these years they had plenty of opportunity to make new maps and fixes but they sat there with their thumbs in their behinds. The game enlisted is looking pretty good these days just so everybody knows
i remember playing this back in 2015. i barely played it unfortunately. but i will admit that, personally, i think it's an underrated gem once you begin to understand the mechanics. god, i loved sniping in that game.
Heroes & Generals gave me the closest experience to Battlefield, games that I could never play, I was very loyal to this game and I always saw its potential to be better, it just needed more, more maps, more vehicles, maybe more weapons , more balances, better optimization of both the game and the junk servers they had, more things to buy, I have played it since February 2018, and I officially gave up on October 25, 2020, it was impossible for me to play it on the Bad state of both my connection and the servers, I couldn't enjoy it at 20 fps and a lot of latency, I couldn't enjoy it to the fullest, and I'm sad to know that they are going to shut down the servers of this game for launching the sequel, like in Overwatch "2", which is true, you can see the graphical improvement, the details of the fire and the weapons, as well as the maps, but don't worry that the servers are going to close, it's like pointing a gun at your client and forcing them to to pay for a product that we do not know if it will be good, and it is useless to look pretty, if there is not something for players who admire World War 2 games, we want to play in Normandy, Stalingrad, Kiev, Berlin, Cologne, Ardennes, etc etc, or at least in Maps that resemble towns and cities of the time, also more weapons, uniforms, more vehicles! Where is the KV-2 or the Panzerjäger Elefant? If one day we will see Italians or British with their respective weapons, in short, many things, which I consider that the Enlisted game does better. I don't expect anything from RETOMOTO but that they do well, I hope only one thing works out for them in their miserable lives
They actually set down the goal from almost 3m $ to almost 2m $.. I used to love to play this game, but sadly it was a pain to grind even if you had the "Premium Benefits".
Fucking hell man i had a lot of fun on this game with my friends . Sad to see it go like this . Enlisted is a very nice alternative , superior in everything besides the fact that its match based and not an rts like this game , which was the best part .
The OG game was very p2w and struggled a lot with balancing. Tier 1 was chill and then you went into tier 2 where you'd fight a Pershing tank while all 2 of the players who grinded for the tank role on your team would still have stugs and PZ-II and would just get absolutely bodied by the better tank. Matches were usually just totally one sided as one side would usually have mostly casuals while the other had a mix of whales and super-veteran players. There was so much grinding for basically everything, even the right to play a certain role, which you then had to grind into in order to make it viable, but there were less slots for that role in a match so that took even longer. Overall, it's a game you pick up once and a while and then drop because you remembered that there are objectively better WW2 shooters out there.
This game is what enlisted wants to be which is another free to play ww2 shooter with war thunder injected into it for vehicle combat with infantry being the main focus of the game

I miss the original promise of the H&G game they promised us. The original game that wasn't locked behind a pay wall. What I mean is that suddenly special ammunition used to have a reasonable cost, but all of a sudden it became nearly impossible to maintain. I literally quit the moment they implemented the change to give their in game cash shop more legitimacy. I spent $50 early on buying gun and soldier skins to support the development because the game was really fun and promising until they made it more about cash if you want to use upgrades. So nah, I don't care to support them.
I remember playing this a long time ago, was even part of a clan that actively participated in the whole RTS wars system. Didn't do much of that myself though, but we had a few whales that would spend a lot of money on buying troops and shit. Really only played the FPS portion and battles, was fun until they decided to go at it with useless skins.
I played this game and enjoyed it. One day I got banned and tried to appeal but nobody would respond. i'll be giving this game zero support. I was happy and looked at the video because of the title and the chance they would be shutting down :)
I feel sadly one of the problems they might face is that the niche Heroes and Generals fell into back then which it was one of the only ones to fill, has partially been filled out by Enlisted, and the level of support and polish Enlisted will have will always overshadow their team. But we'll have to see
I played this game since what, 2011, 2012? around that time at least...I think the game was a bit too grindy, and too prone to clans just sweeping in and ruining games for solo queuers or small friend groups, but it was a game that I really loved...sad to see this happen

I play enlisted now. The moment they announced the game would be over, in my mind I stopped the grind. I won’t pledge any money for this new heroes and generals. It’s sort of a relief. For such a long time I thought it would get better. It never did. I would suggest people do the same. Enlisted in basically staged with better graphics and mechanics

According to them, they've only made a profit for 2-3 years, 2015-2017, after that it was loss after loss. So, well yes, that's what they did with the money, lost it paying salaries, server rent and whatnot, until they went bankrupt and TLM bought them, tho it still lost money in 2022.
they are not wrong about the engine being old as fuck and not working properly and hard to update, there was a reason why flash games no longer work or are being deleted from sites and browsers blocked it some years ago, flash is full of bugs and exploits that make the people playing flash games get viruses and shit like that, i hope they get the funding they need to make the game
This thing was so fucking good way back with specialist squads and stuff - ass to the grass attacking. Limited specials. Then free for all anti tank madness hit. Then stupid production queues. But the final nail for me - "predictable recoil patterns".
Game was bad, unfinished and unbalanced but still a lot of fun. But original devs ran into a lot of resistance by some youtubers raging and crying about some pay2win elements in a f2p game 😂 or just because they suck at game...they were literaly calling out devs bad names for nothing and then original developers gave up by selling the game to this Tlm guys who are really just money grabbing company...what they are doing now is actually kind of blackmailing fans by abandoning game if they dont get 3 mils... this is grand theft and honestly should be investigated by the law enforcement.
I used to really love this game. I even bought some items to support the devs. However, things in my opinion started to go down as devs started to push their nonsense ideas. For example, you had multiple soldiers that you could change during battle (tank crew, infantry man, pilot...). But they forced players to join a random squad that had only one type of soldier. You could not leave or change the squad or change your soldier. Squads needed to be upgraded to support some features like this, but the suqad leader needed to do that, which of course was some random guy who probably didn´t even realized that he could do that, or he just didn´t gave a f*ck. Another feature that a loved was world map where you had battles, we would chat with generals to send us troops and equipment. We could pick any active battle that we wanted and fight on the front we wanted to. But it was removed. Numerous players have been asking them to remove this stupid features mainly the squad system. But the devs were not listening. So as the player base started to decline they had less money, so they started to sell skins and so on. Last time I gave this game a try I was sniped in my tank with bazooka across the whole map from enemy spawn. Also there were things as russian rifle could one shot player if upgraded but the german one not..... It was a great great game, it is really sad to see what the devs did to it :(

Feel bad for you mate. I know personally i played since 2016 or so and yeah i kinda felt the same way, use to watch your videos back in those days. Was good shit my man. I tend to lurk in the shadows but i think i watched most of those videos of the old HNG, it was a whole different beast back then and i can imagine for a proper content creator like yourself it can't be very fun when one of the main games being on the channel just basically takes and entire 180 turn. Sadly I personally i got very little hope for this game ever happening, but personally i feel it won't be the same as retos own engine, but will just feel close to something like hell let loose or post scriptum simply nothing really that funny in terms of gameplay. And i got a personal kind of take on stuff that usually ends up in unity or unreal. It goes by the saying of "Dead out of the gate." Sad truth about many unity games and unreal games these days. But i hope to, if of course this game happens you'll make us some content for good ol' times sake.

The original developers made numerous mistakes and have not listened to the community. I can now count at least ten changes that killed the original gameplay, but the biggest thing that killed this game, in my opinion, is the lack of new maps. It was a great experience playing this game and it was the game like no other, one of its kind.
Mostly making most weapons shit and making new player suffer to grind for end tier weapons which are basically god tier. No wonder no one want to grind this by instantly die 5000 times in a row from god tier weapons

10 years old player here of HG, thank you for this video. HG is a unique ww2 game with a unique combination of FPS + RTS, which over the years had the most fanatical community. It needs to be stated in the video or next videos, that TLM is new developer team, and HG old which was acquired from old company who original made the game. TLM comes with a new fresh air into their new project. This game - Heroes and Generals - the only most important thing that is lacking and is far behind is their graphics - and even so, the only graphics of the terrain, of buildings , of environments, all the rest looks still ok after so many years!

The idea of the game is gold, playing an fps game with rts resources of other players all ongoing in a big battle on a warmap in Europe. Every headshot you make, every tank you destroy matters and will make another player happy or angry. I am very hyped about this and have pledged. Bad development decisions and outdated graphics by the old developer made the game crumble. Hope to see you all in Heroes & Generals 2!

Heroes and Generals was one of my favorite WW2 games, very punishing and rewarding at the same time. You really feel the rush when your team coordinates as squad deaths have a very significant impact on your gameplay and mission success, respawning several minutes behind the front lines is a big motivator to not rush or die carelessly.
I hope they can meet their goals, I think the RTS portion of the game was very unique and this team deserves keeping the H&G spirit alive.
I got tired of guns not doing any form of damage and getting completely shit on by players who had guns that could kill you in a shot or two.
You got fucked by the progression system, then. Having Heavy Set players with STGs, SVTs or M1/M2s to fight while you have nothing but a semi-auto and a dream is a rough place to be.

I criticize the power gap between the toys and the grind, not the actual feel. The game failed for a lot of reasons. For me, it wasn't the responsiveness of the arms.
Played few hundreds of hours on H&G before. It was a wild experience, it got unique gamestyle that you can't see on other mainstream games today. P2W was an issue ever since Alpha of the game. Got bored since there were no friends of mine that got interested to that game. Memories on that game will be remembered...
One thing that is missing in this video is, that the footage of the new HnG 2 is actually just a tech demo to show what it possible with Unreal Engine 5. Personally I have pledged 750 for HnG 2 as the people responsible for the dumb decisions back then aren't around anymore and I am also a long time player of HnG2 and do really hope for the kickstarter campagin to succeed. Back in the day we always joked within the community they should just do a HnG 2 on the unreal engine, well now is the chance for it to happen. Unfortunately there are still a lot of players that have been burnt and don't trust the new TLM team, which is really a shame, but you can't blame them. I just hope many of them find peace and can finally let go of all the negative memories.
Like many other stated the combination of FPS & RTS is unique and I can tell you that although we had the same maps over and over again, it never got boring because of the RTS Part.
Every match had a different setup ressourcewise and could change at any given moment from an infantry fight to an all out vehicle mayhem. Especially paratropper missions were the most difficult but also the most exciting.

I'm not against another H&G game, but I'm not exactly too hopeful for it. A lot of games these past few years have left a bitter taste in my mouth, especially considering how they were marketed beforehand (aka lies and broken promises). We'll see how this plays out.

I remember playing the game back in my teens growing up. Game was janky at best and was overall an alright game for the time, but they royally screwed themselves with the development decisions, lack of new content in a timely manner, and lets not forget their their horrible moderation staff that would ban your account without justification/reason or if they had one it was petty whilst still allowing hackers to remain whom would even admit to it in the in match chat with the names of the hacks they were using, programs and all.
Frankly, seems suspicious that they would be asking for such a huge amount of money for a game that's been in decline for years that they're now trying to make a sequel to... Good luck to them is all I can say but I'm looking forwards to more HLL and WWII online: chokepoint once that release to get the WWII fix.
I understand why they are shutting it down the problem is how they are going about it along with expecting a high Kickstarter goal is not realistic, and it comes across suspicious.
This is such a weird situation. $3 million on kickstarter after they've been charging money for battle passes and starter packs. Then lowering it to $2 million as if it's a reasonable goal. The backer tiers are not worth it as they're all for in game title card colors and vehicle skins. Unless you drop a ton of money. The highest tier is spending a week in Vegas with the team during development and having dinner with them but they only cover 2 nights in a hotel for you. That tier most likely covers them partying in Vegas.
They also titled it Heroes and Generals: The Next War. But it's still World War II? Poor title choice if you ask me.

Doesn't need that much money it doesn't cost much to host a server they are just greedy. I host servers and have for a year straight Costs nothing to host and they are always full of players using bandwidth even got a fast dl hosting aswell.
Game development can cost allot depending on what you're trying to achieve.
The whole TLM rhetoric is screwed. Why shut the old game before a new final version of the game is created? Or why not lower the target and create a game slightly less ambitious for like 500K USD? They are telling us to support them but I think that in the meantime they have a plan which could be shortly expressed as "we want to profit on this game and if you don't give us the money, we don't care and will delete it altogether". What is more, I think that even from a business perspective it does not make sense - many people were buing gold for real money in the old game, so it generated some revenue. The new game will generate none if it will be never created. (And still, if one of the reasons for shutting the old game was that the revenue from gold bought by players did not cover the costs for developing the game, the cannot expect that the new game will be profitable unless it attracts many more players. I think they are just saying politely "we dont care and will delete the game altogether without a substitute if you dont give us money")

I started playing Heroes and Generals in the summer of 2014. Somehow it was better back then, even though there was less ‘content’. Reto had their problems but were constantly holding dev streams to keep us up to date on what was happening. I guess they weren’t doing so well financially and they sold it. I stopped playing about 6 months ago and I won’t miss it. The H&G I used to love died a long time ago!

Heroes and Generals started off well enough, but the devs, through either mismanagement or a lack of care for their player base, ultimately ruined it.
It was both.
I used to play H&G religiously around 2015-2016. I played it a few years back too, lots of changes. Noticed that i missed my chance to get a few unique veteran helmets. Had a rare orage-ish skin on the Gewehr 43 that wasn't able to get anymore, etc etc. Was really proud of my progress. It is sad to hear that the old game is going down. Games like Post Scriptum or HLL lack the type of spin-off where there's a RTS player-controlled map to give that feel that after the match you just played it's not just a meaningless waste of time, but actually makes progress for your faction, also, some technical issues with the new games just mentioned is the fact that anyone could aim while standing right infront of a wall or a tree. H&G fixed this issue blocking the aiming animation from happening, it also had some very good bipod surface placement.
I din't hear any news about this game and i suddently found this video. I really hope the project gets to be completed, along with a good needed update on the graphics and character animations to a more fluid movement.
They have reduced the number to 2 million now, its a great concept of a game, and I believe that H&G2 could be better than a lot of AAA titles. Not many games that are this outdated maintain such a loyal fanbase, especially without funding from huge businesses, it really shows how great of a game this is. Good job on the video :D

Secondly, 1.5k people avg, 2.8k peak per month.
Third, If the money isn't raised, no money is charged from peoples bank accounts, so there is no harm pledging.
Fourth, the average player of h&g is an adult, with money to spend. The average pledge will be higher than most games in kickstarter.
Fifth, both the developers, and the community are promoting the game tirelessly.

@@malachi5707 Even if we assumed all 1.5 thousand average players were loyal fans willing to make this happen, that's 1333 dollars per person. Even if we teleported back to those peak 20 thousand players in 2016, it would still be a 100 bucks per person.
That said, the real issue I take with things like this is not the harm in pledging. You are correct that if they fail to raise the money then your card will not be charged. The harm isn't in pledging, it's in it succeeding. If they do reach their goal, your money is taken and they are under no obligation to ever fulfill their promise to you (Kickstarter TOS states they merely need to try make good on their promises). If they fail to deliver then its tough nuts. You can contact them, and if they have integrity they will refund your money. Otherwise, your only option so long as they're meeting Kickstarter's incredibly low bar is through legal action. And have fun doing that as you'll almost certainly spend more money on legal fees than you would get back, and that's if you even win.
The idea of paying someone for a product or service that largely relies on their word and trust, and with essentially zero options of getting your money back if something goes wrong is a bit insane to me.
There will always be exceptions, and I do not dispute that, but those are often for more trustworthy kickstarters, with good communication and a positive past. Heroes and Generals does not have that. They have an incredibly shady past, muddied with poor communication, failure to deliver on promises, monetization that bordered, and often crossed over into, the pay to win area, and they failed to optimize their game at all.
I hope they get to make this game, and I hope it's as good as everyone wants it to be. That said, do I honestly expect that? No, I don't even fully expect it to get made, let alone be good. And I think anyone donating any large amount of money is being foolish. 5 dollars? Sure, what's the real harm? 30 bucks or more? 100 bucks? Horrible idea.

UE5 is much more optimized, I also struggle to run H&G1 but can run much higher demanding games on better engines smoothly, H&G2 might work on our rigs, we can hope :)

Developers did not listen to the community, or if they did, only very little. There was no competitor before, but now games such as Enlisted is winning the hearts and minds of the players. If you enjoy HnG, you will 100% enjoy Enlisted.

As someone who been playing the game since CBT (Eisenhower build) I must say that devs made many bad decisions or lack o good ones that esentially ruined the game while it also became outdated. Still it was a good game for it's time and i found a real life friend from it so it was worth it despite the fact that the game met it's demise which it meant to met. Overall my advise to devs would be to spend less money on beer for dev streams.

Yes, After this the game has finally ended. May 25 2023 yesterday . I played this game since 2017 it was ok new and improved games don't have the same feel to them and well upgrading this game was a whole other story. Destine for failure without funding and advances in game play respectfully. A lot of people have survivors of Ww2 in there family and well the super game player was not needed for this game it was just a way to give some input on how we the later generation perceived it. I played H&G since 2014, was fun game back then back few years down the line decisions were made that the community didn’t like. Reto Moto (before TLM took over) didn’t always listen to community feed back and said things they told back all the time. Wish could be in better state but all things have to come to an end. Also it being reduced from 3 to 2 million is odd, questions what that extra million is for?🤔 who knows, I mean could be for the debt of the game but if the Kickstarter fails, everyone gets their money back.
I played this game in 2013 although at that time I had a very bad computer, one or two years later I would get one that would allow me to play more often, for personal reasons and because in my country the economy is being destroyed I could not continue playing, I started working to try to buy a much better computer and play it again, two years ago I could not return and now I find out that the game will close, I can not explain the sadness that generates me this news and even worse seeing the sequel that does not seem to be very good. I really enjoyed this game and I wanted to get even more things that I could not try now they are not even going to give us veterans something in the sequel which makes me even sadder.

The latest update that they just did nerfed the stand alone tank game where you could play for hours and hardly get any credits.( Most of the credits now you earn being used for upkeep for the tank you use). They're not getting a dime from me.. All these years they had plenty of opportunity to make new maps and fixes but they sat there with their thumbs in their behinds. but i will admit that, personally, i think it's an underrated gem once you begin to understand the mechanics. god, i loved sniping in that game.
Heroes & Generals gave me the closest experience to Battlefield, games that I could never play, I was very loyal to this game and I always saw its potential to be better, it just needed more, more maps, more vehicles, maybe more weapons , more balances, better optimization of both the game and the junk servers they had, more things to buy, I have played it since February 2018, and I officially gave up on October 25, 2020, it was impossible for me to play it on the Bad state of both my connection and the servers, I couldn't enjoy it at 20 fps and a lot of latency, I couldn't enjoy it to the fullest, and I'm sad to know that they are going to shut down the servers of this game for launching the sequel, like in Overwatch "2", which is true, you can see the graphical improvement, the details of the fire and the weapons, as well as the maps, but don't worry that the servers are going to close, it's like pointing a gun at your client and forcing them to to pay for a product that we do not know if it will be good, and it is useless to look pretty, if there is not something for players who admire World War 2 games, we want to play in Normandy, Stalingrad, Kiev, Berlin, Cologne, Ardennes, etc etc, or at least in Maps that resemble towns and cities of the time, also more weapons, uniforms, more vehicles! Where is the KV-2 or the Panzerjäger Elefant? If one day we will see Italians or British with their respective weapons, in short, many things, which I consider that the Enlisted game does better. I don't expect anything from RETOMOTO but that they do well, I hope only one thing works out for them in their miserable lives

That equals 2 Million USD. Still a lot. But not 3 Million Dollars (by most of the world's standards)
The OG game was very p2w and struggled a lot with balancing. Tier 1 was chill and then you went into tier 2 where you'd fight a Pershing tank while all 2 of the players who grinded for the tank role on your team would still have stugs and PZ-II and would just get absolutely bodied by the better tank. Matches were usually just totally one sided as one side would usually have mostly casuals while the other had a mix of whales and super-veteran players. There was so much grinding for basically everything, even the right to play a certain role, which you then had to grind into in order to make it viable, but there were less slots for that role in a match so that took even longer. Overall, it's a game you pick up once and a while and then drop because you remembered that there are objectively better WW2 shooters out there.
Lots of good memories on this game. Shame the devs have no respect for it.

@@theoneandonlyartyom they're working on match making but I know what you mean it did the same to me it helped to get good with the bolt action rifles first sense they're one shot kill besides at really long ranges

I miss the original promise of the H&G game they promised us. The original game that wasn't locked behind a pay wall. What I mean is that suddenly special ammunition used to have a reasonable cost, but all of a sudden it became nearly impossible to maintain. I literally quit the moment they implemented the change to give their in game cash shop more legitimacy. I spent $50 early on buying gun and soldier skins to support the development because the game was really fun and promising until they made it more about cash if you want to use upgrades.
So nah, I don't care to support them.

I remember playing this a long time ago, was even part of a clan that actively participated in the whole RTS wars system. Didn't do much of that myself though, but we had a few whales that would spend a lot of money on buying troops and shit. Really only played the FPS portion and battles, was fun until they decided to go at it with useless skins.
I played this game and enjoyed it. One day I got banned and tried to appeal but nobody would respond. i'll be giving this game zero support. I was happy and looked at the video because of the title and the chance they would be shutting down :)
I feel sadly one of the problems they might face is that the niche Heroes and Generals fell into back then which it was one of the only ones to fill, has partially been filled out by Enlisted, and the level of support and polish Enlisted will have will always overshadow their team. But we'll have to see
I like Enlisted. Its not HnG but the good is a 100 times better than the bad part that is not HnG.
Haha, Enlisted has been fucking up royally since the start and they've fallen into the monetization/grind hole even faster.

I played this game since what, 2011, 2012? around that time at least...I think the game was a bit too grindy, and too prone to clans just sweeping in and ruining games for solo queuers or small friend groups, but it was a game that I really loved...sad to see this happen
as someone that should have got a veteran helmet (yes i got back to it 1 day to late), i really had a good time in heroes and generals
loved the game despite the high grind wall, as if u didnt put real money u basically grind climbing a mount not a wall. but i still remember that i loved it, my only dream was to get a better pc just to run this game only for the sake of the nostalgia it gives me. as a 2013-14 veteran id say rip to one of the best games ive ever played
i think enlisted was the final nail in the coffin, shame it doesn't have the strategic part of H&G.
I play enlisted now. The moment they announced the game would be over, in my mind I stopped the grind. I won’t pledge any money for this new heroes and generals. It’s sort of a relief. For such a long time I thought it would get better. It never did. I would suggest people do the same. Enlisted in basically staged with better graphics and mechanics

According to them, they've only made a profit for 2-3 years, 2015-2017, after that it was loss after loss. So, well yes, that's what they did with the money, lost it paying salaries, server rent and whatnot, until they went bankrupt and TLM bought them, tho it still lost money in 2022.

they are not wrong about the engine being old as fuck and not working properly and hard to update, there was a reason why flash games no longer work or are being deleted from sites and browsers blocked it some years ago, flash is full of bugs and exploits that make the people playing flash games get viruses and shit like that, i hope they get the funding they need to make the game

Game was bad, unfinished and unbalanced but still a lot of fun. But original devs ran into a lot of resistance by some youtubers raging and crying about some pay2win elements in a f2p game 😂 or just because they suck at game...they were literaly calling out devs bad names for nothing and then original developers gave up by selling the game to this Tlm guys who are really just money grabbing company...what they are doing now is actually kind of blackmailing fans by abandoning game if they dont get 3 mils... this is grand theft and honestly should be investigated by the law enforcement.

I used to really love this game. I even bought some items to support the devs. However, things in my opinion started to go down as devs started to push their nonsense ideas. For example, you had multiple soldiers that you could change during battle (tank crew, infantry man, pilot...). But they forced players to join a random squad that had only one type of soldier. You could not leave or change the squad or change your soldier. Squads needed to be upgraded to support some features like this, but the suqad leader needed to do that, which of course was some random guy who probably didn´t even realized that he could do that, or he just didn´t gave a f*ck.
Another feature that a loved was world map where you had battles, we would chat with generals to send us troops and equipment. We could pick any active battle that we wanted and fight on the front we wanted to. But it was removed. Numerous players have been asking them to remove this stupid features mainly the squad system. But the devs were not listening. So as the player base started to decline they had less money, so they started to sell skins and so on. Last time I gave this game a try I was sniped in my tank with bazooka across the whole map from enemy spawn. Also there were things as russian rifle could one shot player if upgraded but the german one not..... It was a great great game, it is really sad to see what the devs did to it :(

Enlisted is good substitute. All i want in h&g is there. Although the tech tree is grind like other gaijin title at least its more friendly than h&g

I was recently thinking about reinstalling it. So much time has passed that I barely recognize the game anymore.
It got absolutely mogged by war thunder for doing what it did, but better.
