One aspect that Priscilla left out that is very crucial in building your marriage is "give compliment for those small attempts that you man is doing". Cos if you wanna breakdown man's confidence, bring him down for his attempts.

As a teen, when I read 1 Cor 11:3 and Ephesians 5 I thought it was very romantic. I imagined it to be like the handsome Prince in a fairy tale sweeping the princess off her feet onto his horse and galloping off with him. In reality, having been married to a very domineering man who saw my role as one of total submission, it was like the prince had put his princess on the back of his horse, galloped off on full speed then looked around when he reached his destination and saw she was not still hanging on to him and had got weak and fallen off way back. He should've put her in front of him, with his arms around her, recognizing her as the weaker one, not just tagging along with him, but being respected and protected in all family decisions and life. After all, what is leadership and love all about? My husband believed in a very male dominated religious organization and was very frustrated with me for not following it when he was alive. If we see the horse we're on as the same Jesus, it's so much easier. We were on some wild horse!
This experience has made me terrified of the way in which a lot of Christian ladies interpret a woman's role. Many portray it as completely giving in to total control by the man. That's not love or biblical. Neither one should be controlling, but all be in submission to Christ, putting each other first.

Follow the lesson as the word say, then no one have to defend their position. No one is perfect. But need to ask God for the wisdom stay in for the long haul.

the reason this is so hard for couples is because they will not study the word together in prayer. but instead we live in a world that says I'll do if you do and thats not bible. study the word together in prayer fasting and suplication line apon line and the the husband will begin to leasd his marriage/house hold as Christ and the woman will begin to submit as the church. But the worlds idealology must be discarded. otherwise there is no need to call yourselves bible base believers/Christians

My story is a lot different. I wished that l had learned this earlier in my life. It is hard but lm reading your book...Fervant. And l can resonate with it.. And a little off topic but another book that l had and now reading it's called Who moved my cheese. And its basically about changing. What do you do when your husband takes and takes but doesn't know how to fulfill my needs. I don't want much just to feel appreciated, loved and heard
You are allowing that behaviour and that's not loving him well. Without letting your emotions get in the way make your boundaries known and hold them. Use 'I' statements and statements that are positive. I would like it if when we go out it would sometimes be where I would like to go. By using good listening skills yourself, reflecting paraphrasing etc you can also teach him good listening skills. Maybe even saying, I don't need fixed here, I just need you to listen and hear me. When you change how you respond to him, by necessity he has to change how he responds to you. That's the joy of changing only that that you can control, yourself. If you keep responding how you usually respond, he will also respond in the usual pattern. So take courage and respond in a different and helpful way that allows him to respond to you then in a different and helpful way
Communicate your needs. Especially the five love languages book helps in expressing your needs vs what he thinks you need. When you can discuss what you need and what they need, it helps since you’re both discussing your needs.

According to Priscilla, a man's worst fear is "to be inadequate" and "to be controlled by a woman?" Really? How about... being criticized and/or being controlled or controlling is not appropriate for anyone in ANY relationship? I certainly don't want to be controlled or criticized by my husband. the key is to know enough about who you are marrying on the front end and have enough common sense and discernment not to marry a controlling, selfish or self-centered person...that's a whole other show.
That requires knowing yourself first. Many have little to no self awareness or awareness of their hurts and patterns from childhood and so will choose a partner on the basis of what they know, even if that is poor behaviour.
the husband wife relationship is, I think, one of the most complex of human relationships. I think this way because you have 2 aspects of it that conflict or that it could conflict...
you have the financial aspect of a marriage and you have the love aspect of a marriage.
you know... your money is the result of your work and you might love the other person but that doesn't mean you necessarily find em fit to be your business associate
