Cool to see more Jen stuff, Nate is awesome ofc, but so is she :)
She has a very calming voice
Yes both their voices are very calming, but we do need a jenn@narrowway homestead page!! So we can have more jenn!❤
That is definitely a plum. No apple calyx on bottom and has a crease like a plum. Had a plum tree in yard when I was young and our plums looked just like that.
Also iits stone fruit season while apple season is in fall
It's a plum... Hundreds of varieties... 13 years selling produce! Correct about all apples (crab or other) have a flower end. Soft Fruits (Peaches, nectarines and plums) tend to have their flower fall away before maturing. Probably bred to have a small pit.
Nate’s tricky guys he secretly grafted a plum branch onto the apple tree to trick Jen obviously 🤭
That looks like a plum, it's growing in clumps like plums so, no bottom spot either.... I gotta go with plum. But Nate obviously knows what he has had growing on his property! Unless this is the first year the tree has bore fruit??
Nate didn’t plant these
@@DylanGLC Maybe not but he still knows his land, he tends to have a good grasp of foraging and getting resources from his land, which would end up teaching him what he has
It looks like paradise apples do grow in clumps, but yeah that shape with the one long little furrow/line in it really looks like a plum to me. Someone else in the comments mentioned greengage plums, and I think they could be right
Nate could easily have been told the wrong thing by the seller who might have just eyeballed "yup, looks like an apple"
@@SteveReals Exactly, it's 102 acres and Nate doesn't have formal training in this. That's not to discredit Nate, just saying him owning the land for ~3.5 years means nothing
I'm a professional gardener and tree specialist. This is a Prunus/plum tree.
No it’s a sour apple tree
As you are a professional gardener, I hope you know that apple trees are also of the prunus family
@@DanielledeVreede this looks exactly like a sour crab apple tree I had in my childhood homes back yard. I doubt it’s a plum tree lol
In persian we call that “Aloo” or “Gojeh sabz (green tomato)” it’s a sour plum best enjoyed with salt and dried & powdered mint leaves, it’s sour and salty snack kind of thing it comes out this time of the year and people love it in iran
This ☝️
Jen, you better knock some sense in him! what kind of apple has a butt crack? 😂
When I was in Turkey, we ate these a lot during the summer. Some people would cut them in half then dip them in salt to cut the sourness.
I did some research on these recently, they were called "Can Erik" in Turkey and I believe in English these are "Greengage plums". I have been looking around for these in Australia but they are not very common or well known.
Plapple!!!
Plumple
The satisfaction I get from watching this channel used to only come from Nate, I am now on team Jen! Jen needs to carry the camera for a week!!!❤
Morning coffee, morning drop, morning Nate Petroski
Im pretty sure thats an old plum tree. We used to have the same ones here in SW VA. They all died but I remember the scraggly tree because it grew so crooked, it was perfect for our goat to climb. They are a reddish color plum also. Guess when they are ripe we will all see what they are😊
Looked like a plum to me! But what do i know Lol
Almost looks like a crabapple. Those can be just like you described Jen. They run to be sour even ripe. They make all kinds of wonderful stuff. Good luck! What fun...
Plum definitely
I love that this has become a couple channel! Jen is as great of an addition to the homestead as she seems to be to Nathan's life ❤
I’d swear that was a plum but now I dunno.
Oh wow it looks like a popular fruit in the Republic of Georgia. They use it to make a sour plum sauce as a condiment.
When it ripens it doesn’t change color but gets softer.
I love the Jen content! The hand size comparison video made me laugh raucously though.
Best way to distinguish any kinds of (flowering) plants is the flower. Plum/cherry (prunus) and apple (malus) flowers are very distinct from one another.
That said, the appearance, fruit formation on the tree and the confusion with apples makes me think it's a nectarine (prunus persica variation).
OOOOH Nate! I’ve come across your channel before but I’m subscribing now and I’m excited to watch Will’s journey on your land! He definitely has a lot to learn from you 💪🏼😎 love your content brotha
I've never seen a lot of plum trees in my part of Wisconsin, so I am not surprised of the confusion. In fact, I wasn't able to tell the difference myself. I do have to say they aren't that dis-similar to the small crab apples that grew in our yard as a kid. We ate them right off the tree, and I would toss the cores into the corn field when I was done.
That is a plum I cannot believe he didn’t know there was a plum tree laugh out loud
It does look like a plum or prune.
Whatever it is it’s growing great yields by the looks of it.
Hi folks. I had the same issue with a tree two years ago. I wanted it to be a wild plum tree. It turned out to be a crab apple miniature. It also tasted as you described your plum to be... non descript at the same stage. The deer even avoid it.
FYI, I adore Minion! He is so sweet and adorable!🤠😎🤩
I JUST HEARD THAT WILL IS COMING TO WEST VIRGINIA.... I LOVE IT. HE IS SUCH A HUMBLE YOUNG MAN AND I THINK HE WILL DO AMAZING THINGS UNDER NATE'S GUIDANCE. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS ❤
Definitely Prunus sp. but in there it could be a lot 😅
I like Mirabelle plum the most ❤
it's shaped like a plum
In my country, theses green plums are super popular.
It’s a Crab Apple they come in a variety of sizes, they tend to bitter/sour. There’s no harm in eating them.
I actually like em. Crab apples grow all over here in SW Pennsylvania...so I grew up grabbing them off trees
Really good in pies
@@gyromurphy lol I’m in PA they are all over the place and the variety of sizes too lol
They gotta be ripe!
It's a plum in this case.
because of the attachementpoint of the stem, the shallow crest and the pointy end of this fruit it looks like an unripe peach. the remnents of the flowerstalk don't seem to be firmly attached to the fruit and there are none of the pedal like remnents of the calyx (the little thing on the end), an apple normaly has.
Tis a plum...😊❤😊
Looks like you have the same plums that we have in Turkey
From a whole childhood of picking fruits, i am in the plum camp all the way. It doesn't match apple or crab apple to my memory of the fruits and also of the the way they bunch on the tree. If it isnt a plum, I'll be happy to learn what it is!
This looks like a Greengage plum , very popular in middle eastern culture
As they are of the same genus (prunus trees), I wouldn't even be surprised if it was some sort of hybrid
They are plums. We have them in Turkey, we either eat them while they are still green and sour some times by dipping it into some salt or when they are ripe and sweet. They will take a reddish, yellowısh color when they are ripe, you can also wait for them to take a dark red color, but usually they get eaten by the insects or birds before they can turn dark red.
So many different "what it could be" good luck either way ❤❤🎉
its what we called can eriği in turkey, which means life plumb :) when its get older, becomes really soft and most of flesh turns out yo be a verry sweet juice :) btw the brench of this three is most fragile wood I ever seen.
Heard a rumor will survives might be headed out your way. That would be rad will is such a hard working guy and has a positive mentality
A green gage the stone is secured to the centre of the fruit. Cut the fruit across wyze and you will see the shape of the apple core or hit a stone. A true plum will have a minimal connection to the fruit flesh a gage will be fully connected to the flesh.
Definitely greengage a type of plum used for making jam in the uk
Man has one hell of a morning voice
Reminds me of crab apples. Bring on the Jen content!
Try an ice bath before eating it, it helps pull the tannins out.
At first I thought you were suggesting they take an ice bath before eating the fruit and was so confused lol
@@mongoose9851 😂😂😂❤️
That was fun😊 I like sour stuff😂
It kind of looks like an apricot, they have very small or no pit when they are that small. They are also in the same family as plums so they grow together in clusters like in the video. But in all honesty, I had never heard of that variety of apple before. So I guess we will have to wait and see what they grow into.
Absolutely plums 100% even without the pit/seed check
apple. lol, we used to have neighborhood wars with these when we were kids in the 70s... 🤣
That's what my apples look like before they're ripe. That's what my apple trees look like a well so...
Definately a plum.
An apple that size would be showing seeds when cut open. See, yet another reason Jenn
needs to be on the homestead to be more observant and tell Nate what hidden jems he's got growing on the homestead for food.
Jenn, thanks for feeding Nate😅
It's a plum.
Apple, picked way to early, wait until it changes colour or gets much bigger, depending on what type of Apple it is ok
Regardless of the type, that tree needs some pruning.
Wild apples be wildin'
My best guess is it's a food
Any updates on the mystery tree?
Hey!!😊
When are you guys gonna sell leather hats again?!?????I wanna buy one!!
We eat these in lebanon all the time its sour and tastes great with salt
I thought it might be a greengage.
It's a PLAPPLE😂😂😂😂😂
Crab apples I think they have pits
It's an appricot
I think it’s a plum. I can’t imagine an apple tree would fruit at that size.
Definitely appears to be an unrippened plum.
Show me more of the tree and I'll confirm it is a plum. (But it's definitely a plum)
It's a Greengage
It looks just like a plum to me 🎉 I hope it's a plum tree for diversity sake & they're my favorite 😅 not that that matters lmao
That's a plum. Had a plum tree in a house we bought, fruit was greenish yellow, barely any flavor. Worthless when ripe, so I wonder if it's used for jam or pies. or if it was just a wild vafiety. I never bothered experimenting with it.
Cake!
I'm not a fool, I know that's a lie.
Plum
You plum done dad gun did it now son...
Definitely not an apple. And, if it's THAT big already while still that under developed inside, I have my doubts about it being a plum or a damson tbh but I'm in the UK and I get the impression fruit grown here is generally smaller than that grown in the US. Maybe an apricot or peach/nectarine?
You may even be blessed with Nectarines!
Wild apple. Those are supper common in West Virginia
It's a plupple.
That’s a crab apple 🍏
Plum, not ripe yet!
People are saying it's a crab apple and if it is then why did Nate plant it? I'm looking at crab apple recipes and every single one of them is describing various ways to overcome the otherwise inedible bitterness.
Crab apples maybe
seem aN aPpLe 2 me! At least i thiNk iT iS bcAuse my fRuit from the aPple tree, seems aLmosT the sAme fRuit.
Kind of looks like my fig tree
Looks like a greengage
Patience... let it ripen. Another month...
I grow plums, it's a plum
Definite plum.
Might be crab apples...❤😊
Green gage?
I think this is a greengage
Plapple
For real, that is a plum with apple skin and cucumber flesh, what?😂
Plum!
Is will survives coming to the Homestead?
Plum!!!
They are plums
Are you letting will survives come live with you?
An obvious plum
