I have started using my scraps to make a master board book. I have found that I really like using the inside of business envelopes because they have such different prints on the inside. I use those prints and then I add graph paper, music pages, and book pages along with newspaper sections. They look great!

I DID make master board scrapbooks with you a while back. I made three as well and actually lost them for a bit when I tidied up my craft room, although they have since turned up again. Yes I flip through them and no I haven't cut into any of them yet, but I have scanned several pages and thoroughly enjoy using them.
Oh! And I meant to tell you... This overthinking thing we do? Yeah, we'll, for one master board I really, truly didn't do it - just glued stuff down willy nilly and Tina, it was awful! Perhaps there's a happy medium between the two - overthinking and not caring - that we might call a tiny bit of artful consideration.
Hugs sweetie, and I'll see you tomorrow, MK 🤗❤️🌵❤️🤗

When I finished my master board I felt the same way. So I took it to my printer and made copies on typing paper. And used the copy. I made copies on both sides so the copies were very beautiful and useful.

I love this project. And really enjoy collaging and watching collaging 😊 I love the sound of paper ripping. I sometimes use a few pages to make the base of my collage and sometimes I make it with all different things and allow myself to do crazy random stuff.

I love collaging. Find it so relaxing. I use up my scraps doing master boards and snippet rolls. I use everything but sort the scraps into colour families. I find the boards look great and are easy to cut up into useful bits for tags, belly bands, tucks, etc. Tfs your master board creating techniques. 💞🇨🇦

Totally not boring to watch, it is relaxing, it is inspiring and now I need to sit down and do my own. I used an old journal with thick paper, for some reason this book was to large to really use as a journal, but now I can totally cover up those large pages and perhaps I don’t even cut it apart, but use it for what this book was intentionally meant for.

I absolutely LOVE collage! It really does depend on my mood. Sometimes I mix it up and sometimes I match it up. Most of the time it's about the intensity of the color, ie: neutral, pastel, analogous, monotone, jewel tones, etc. I also look at texture(pattern)and contrast. Sometimes I just start glueing random pieces and see what happens.

I really like to use vintage book and magazine paper, all kinds of tan and brownish papers. I think they appeal to me more than a mish/mash of colors. Sometimes I use colors but all in the same family. I use my masterboards for tags and journal cards. Thank you for sharing your ideas. I can't wait until you start cutting into your masterboards to use them!

I LOVE the way all the collage is kept in one place and safely. Then when I want to use it for a project background it's ready to go. I'm a retired elementary teacher so have access to these types of books. I watched Rachel do the same thing in an encyclopedia. That is too big for me to store. This idea is much better and doable for me. Thanks for sharing.

I've done the same thing with an old 12" x 1 2" wall calendar. (Well, started it 🙈). Oh it's impossible not to over think. I like joie's 'over under' method plus my need to balance out in threes😄 can't under think that 🙊. I haven't flipped through but yeah using them is difficult🙈. You've got me inspired to do some more. I did use one making those punched out frames with you. I always intend to buy vintage ephemera but get side tracked by other things🙈. I do stick to colour families plus a neutral. Yes some can mix it up really well. I just can't pull it off. Lol yes, what's the secret? Art journaling on them sounds fun! With me being a painter I do compositions, I should try to let loose with it. I can't hear your printer, wonder if I'm going old age deaf 🙉😄. Yeah what is it with buff/brown? I've scanned these before but they never print as nice for me, maybe my settings. Yes, they're not samey at all. Oh you're not boring, you're my crafting buddy😁. It's like painting a background, pointless getting it perfect to cover it up later. But it's a struggle lol. Something magical about genuinely old things.I joined you in 2019 just before Christmas, and the pandemic. Looking gorgeous 😍. Tfs and have a great day 💖💖💖

Yes I really enjoyed making a couple of these! And yes! I am definitely hoarding them! Just can’t cut them up! 😂I made one from Christmas scraps. The other I made from just scraps of papers and book pages and whatever I had on hand and that’s the one I love the most! I put way too much thought into it for sure. I am impressed that you used that vintage music cover. That is something I would hoard! I have an old Bach music book and for heaven’s sake you’d think it was his personal collection 😂😂🫶🏼

I too love books but many hundreds of books are recycled daily, charity shops even stop accepting them so try to look at it as giving books that would end up in the bin are being made beautiful again. X

Great idea for us newbies. I will probably do it with digitals and reproduced documents before using vintage stuff. Your technique of limiting the number of documents makes for successful collaging. ❤❤❤

I do enjoy watching you make your master boards, it’s a great idea to do it in a book so they are all contained also 😀But being from Western Canada where vintage ephemera is a rarity it’s a wee bit painful too as I am thinking the whole time…ooo I hope that was scanned! I mean even the yellowing and the browning of the pages are stunning but when there is handwriting, even a scribbled note, it makes the piece even more precious!TFS!

Hello from Canada. I'm looking for ways to create a journal book. Hadn't thought about using a children's book. Thanks for the idea.
I'm also making atcs next week with the idea of creating a masterboard the size of 4 atcs, then cutting them into individual cards. I like what you did. Will be looking around for paper scraps now. 😊

I love to make Master boards. I made a couple with joy defeat that were so beautiful I could not cut them up. So I made copies of them and I use the copies. But usually I have no trouble making a master board and then getting right at it and cutting it up into things I can use.

I love the master board book concept. It is a great way to let loose and then reap the benefits later when completing a project. I suppose my experiences in art school have influenced my approach to junk journaling and all the elements that go with it. For instance, ephemera to me is something that is fleeting or not meant to last. I am sure it would offend some people, but I use originals and I am unashamed. The fact is, just because something is “vintage” doesn’t mean any spoken or intended copyright is no longer applicable. Most of my vintage items are younger than 75 years and I am not going to outlive the copyright on them, so I figure I might as well use them 😊

Collage is my fave! I start by ripping up a few large bits or page, then a handful of medium and mall pieces. Then I collage is size order. Putting the largest pieces down first and filling in/ layering up from there. If I love the page, I scan it and only use the reprinted scans in my journals. Lol

I love doing collage but I tend to use many different papers as I don't have any vintage documents. I have old books and old music so I don't have much variety for all neutral ones. I haven't done a whole collage masterboard book yet but I do have some books saved to do some one day. Your neutral ones are looking great.

I tend to do mine more like yours. I overthink, and I put same papers spread throughout the page. However, yours are brilliant and mine need practice. Lol. I don't know how you are able to tear into your vintage stuff. I would have to scan it in first, thin use the copy and not the original.
