I’m sorry about the mistake. This message referred to Cinerama Holiday. I did enjoy Seven Wonders, particularly the runaway train and flight over Rio, although the supposed Carnival scene was pathetic. Great work of restoration by the team. The supreme accomplishment would have to be Brothers Grimm, Pete Hutley.
It is/was unique. All about peripheral vision involving you in the curve (if you sat in the right spot). And ultra wide angles and everything in focus as per your own eyes. This was part of the problem for directors. Everything in shot all of the time. Such a pity the camera was so huge and difficult and that it was so expensive to project on screens. But I am baffled as to why it was never updated for shooting films today. Imax is big but not immersive like Cinerama. And Smilebox is nothing like the real thing. I wish it was..
How many memories this brings back! I saw all those films in Paris when I was a young boy; the cinema where they were performed was the Empire near the Champs Elysées; it unfortunately burned a few years ago. This theater also was the place where Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece 2001 a space odyssee was shown and also another french great and funny movie thank god restored to its original version Playtime by Jacques Tati. (see following comment for a explanation on this latter film)
Can someone tell me the name of the song that the Takarazuka dancers are singing? I have remembered this music since the first time I saw it Cinerama when I was a teenager. Love it! I wish I could find it on RUclips. Thanks!
Playtime is showd people's problems facing modern housing and new technologies .I was a trainee in a laboratory processing the different dubbed versions of this 70mm production and saw it 19 times with the technician in charge;during the sound transfers we woulld try to guess which scene was on as we had only sound during the process.the film has been transferred on dvd and perhaps bluray and is a must which does not require french knowledge as dialog is very scarce. This is a cult movie fan.
Padma Karmann Hola Padma.
I have the 3 CINERAMA films, How the West Was Won; This Is Cinerama and Windjammer. I have an 8ft screen and video projector, 5 speaker sound and must say these films look great bringing back a lot of memories. But the very first one I ever saw as a kid was, 7 Wonders… so, yeah, hope it's released on Blue Ray soon, along with the other Cineramas to be done.
Abrazo.
Are there any Cinerama theater in the US in 2020? Back when I was a child, more than 62 years ago, in Havana Cuba, there was a theater fitted and built for Cinerama; however, I was never able to see any Cinerama movie, for back then I was merely a child, and by the time I was old enough, Fidel Castro took power of Cuba, and that Cinerama movie theater was no more.
There are three in the world. The two below and one in Bradford UK. They show standard prints also but are the only three set up for three strip Cinerama (of the old original films) They do these at certain times of year. Having said all that, the Seattle one (Martin Cinerama) was in danger of being demolished during Covid I heard unless someone saved it. It is state of the art so why that would happen is a travesty.
Saw this when I was 10 years old. Never forgot it. So cool they're reviving this incredibly difficult process..
Fantastic! Always my favourite Cinerama film, Pete Hutley, Newcastle,NSW, Australia.

SWEET! I saw "This Is Cinerama" on TCM a few months and loved it! It's amazing how much widescreen changed movies in the 50s.
This is what the youtube is for. Respect!
I've seen imax documentaries in a dome theater, now I wanna see documentaries on a cinerama. Its's just different enough to be unique over imax.

I second that! I would pay to see this on a big screen versus most Hollywood movies from the past 25 years. If not home video would do nicely.

Love Tati's work. I bet Playtime would have been amazing to see in the theatres in full 70mm.
