He said to me when I asked why Imam Ali did not get the kilaphat right away, answer from 9 year old boy to me was Allah did not ordain that Imam Ali's time was right for him to take the Khilafat from the other 3. A leaf from a tree does not fall from the branches unless Allah wishes it to fall. So it is Allah's will that Imam Ali would become Caliph when Allah ordained that he would.

Regarding those who wondered at ‘Ali (a) being the divider of Heaven and Hell, Ahmad Ibn Hanbal said, “Hasn’t this been narrated that the Messenger told ‘Ali (a), لا يحبك إلا مؤمن ولا يبغضك إلا منافق “Only the believer loes thee and only the hypocrite loathes thee.” “Yes”, they said. Continued he, “As the believer abides in the heaven and the hypocrite abides in the Hell, ‘Ali (a) is the divider of the Heaven and the Hell.”

No one crosses the Path except by a passport from Ali (AS):
Anas Ibn Malik narrated:
“When Abu Bakr neared death,…, Abu Bakr said that he heard the
Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) saying: That there is an obstacle on the Path which no one crosses unless with a passport (permission)
from Ali Ibn Abi Talib (AS). And I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) saying: “I am the seal of the prophets and you, Ali, the seal of the Awliyaa.”

Imam Ali (AS) narrated:
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) said: When Allah gathers the first-ones and the last-ones on the Day of Judgment, and the Path has been erected on the bridge of Hell, no one can cross it unless he had along proof of allegiance (Wilaya) to Ali Ibn Abi Talib .”

I am purely sunni but i know people among us who hate Ali or degrade him somehow. They must know in their own books what Prophet SAW called such people, as Munafiq , their worships will never be regarded.
