I wish she'd have given an honest assessment based upon the finished product. The left eye has an extremely noticeable gap. The lash pattern didn't look natural. She looked like she had a lash job done. The point is for your lash extensions to look like they're yours. For the price range of $130-$300, you as a customer should expect flawless results. Not only were the extensions not flawless they end result was subpar. If I'd paid $25 for the results she wound up with, I would have at least asked for the gap to be filled in prior to leaving.
Just J I agree. The results weren’t that impressive... however, looking natural is not always the goal. Most women where I live get the super glam version. Really thick & really long. Doesn’t look natural at all lol.
I dont think she was going natural. A lot of SE asians wear lashes cuz it makes our eyes look bigger, and usually they're pretty big. They're not meant to look natural.
🤔 She said the gap happened over a 2 week period; she didn't leave the salon with a gap. They look appropriate for the stage, but up close they look...not flattering. But I hope she enjoyed them.
michelley22 the lashes are applied to a natural lash so if she has gaps in her natural lashes or they grow a certain way then the extensions will do the same
@@Beautyandblingbabe that's not true, the lash technician needs to bridge the lashes to cover any gaps. If they can't do this to remove gaps then they should not be lashing!
I feel that people who have got nice extensions before wouldn't agree that this was worth $200. The end result may have been what Stacey (the girl) wanted to achieve, but it did not suit her eye and face shape in a natural way, and I believe it is the technician's job to talk first-time clients out of their unrealistic expectations of the result.
Also, she mentioned about the burning sensation after opening her eyes, which is another sign that the technician did not dry the adhesive fully before letting her open her eyes. By all means this won't be a successful marketing towards people who have got better experiences before.

you don’t use mascara with eyelash extensions, it ruins your extensions and makes it hard to get lash fills because you can’t get all the mascara residue off and the extension sticks to the mascara instead of your actual lash causing them to come off once the mascara residue washes off. Also, you should be washing your lashes every day, especially if you are wearing makeup! You can literally grow bacteria/parasites on your eyes from not cleansing them properly! Once again Refinery29- the sound effects are TOO MUCH. They sound fake, getting eyelash extensions would not sound like this ever, even with a mic next to your eye. No one’s eyes make that much of a whooshing sound when they close 🙄 this is a well shot and informative series but the sound effects take it from a 10 to a 6 in my opinion...
the first 25 seconds just feels like contradictory bs... yes there's definitely more than 1 type of beauty, the typical standard is having full lashes so why not stick to what you were born with and embrace that type of beauty you already own? It's dumb to just crawl on over to the conventional beauty standards when you're apparently preaching for diverse beauty.

Aren’t these eyelash extension clusters? Usually I see those run for 40-50 dollars but the actually individual eyelash extensions are around 200 or more. Am I wrong??
Those are not clusters. Those are Russian volume lashes, fans made from scratch. You can clearly see on the video she is making the fans. Clusters are lashes knotted together at the bottom, with a very wide and thick base.
I have always been curious about this and I have wanted to try it for so long!! I am so happy that you made a video on this. I love Refinery29 so much 💛💛
To everyone saying the sound effects don't work - ya'll are dumb. The shots are MACRO shots, so the editor is adding MACRO sounds. It just brings the whole watching experience up a notch to something more detailed and deep - a different way to view the world. Quite frankly, as someone who loves cinematography, this is a nice example of out of the box editing and creativity. I think it all works perfectly and makes you get lost in this relaxing, zen moment of getting one's lashes done. (Irrespective of how you feel about the price tag, the final look, whatever.) Also, the series is called 'MACRO Beauty' - hence MACRO shots & sounds. Duh.
I see what the editor is doing with the sound effects, my suggestion is add more reverb and distance the sound in the background rather than being so up front and obvious. Itll be more relaxed.
I can’t stress enough that you don’t remove these yourself! Been there done that and had no eyelashes for weeks! I do love the look when they are done and I have had them in a few times. But I found them irritating (hence one time removing them myself...) after a while. They can get tangled with each other and then pull on your own lashes. Also sometimes the glue flakes as it loosens after a week or so and that gets in your eyes. If you do wear them long term you should give your lashes a break once and a while otherwise your lashes can be damaged and not grow back well. I do love the look though!
you should brush your eyelashes everyday when you wake up and before you got to bed. Also the glue shouldn't fall off at all, the professional who did your extension probably is not doing their job right.
If they pull, your lash artist probably glued 2 natural lashes to one extension. Your glue shouldn’t flake, they might have used cheap or old glue. Brushing your lashes is a must, at least 2x a day
The look of eyelash extensions are so beautiful but I had the worst experience with it. I got mine done for the first time at a popular lash extension shop and the price is about $120. While the lady was working on me, I constanly felt uncomfortable and I had let her know that it felt like onions were in my eyes. She said maybe it's the placement of the tape but I knew it was the glue getting into my eyes. I left with a feeling that something bad is going to happen and the same night, I had the worst chemical burn side effects. I went back the next morning, got the lashes removed and went straight to my optometrist. Luckily, my eyes got better after 3 nights but I was so worried about my eye-health.
I got my first eyelash extensions done in Cancun at Bollywood in Plaza Las Americas. They did a wonderful job! I spent about $75 usd. That included eyebrow and upper lip threading with a mascara that they had for the lashes.
If you are in the UK, lashes should range from £40-£60 for individual lash extensions. The ones shown in this video are cluster lashes, and will damage your own lashes if you get this type done. Always do your research and look for experienced lash technicians for affordable prices.
Eyelash extension has been the craze in my town lately. Lash specialists spring up out of nowhere. I like how they look but I'm afraid that I'll be dependant on them. People say eyelash extensions - like hair extensions - will cause your natural lashes to fall out.. I think I'll just keep using my Essence mascara.. 😐
your lashes naturally fall off, if you go to a trained professional that uses high quality glue and lashes and you take good care of your extensions (not putting mascara over them, brushing them twice a day and having them touched up after 3-4 weeks) you should be fine.
I’ve had lash extensions for 2-3 years now, on and off. And I looove them. You wake up feeling like a goddess. My natural lashes haven’t affected negatively at all
Fatma Atma mmmm I’ve had lash extensions on and off for about 3 years now. When all the extensions fall off, my natural lashes are still strong. If done correctly you should have no issues with lash extensions
Swiping your fan is detrimental to lash retention. You are essentially wiping off the adhesive before it’s even on the natural lash. It also means that the cyanoacrylate is curing before it has been wrapped around the natural lash. If you have too much glue on the fan you can simply dip it back into the glue and pull it out slowly or just toss that fan xox
doesn't really suit her :( as a fellow asian, this is why it is difficult to use standard american falsies -- makes my eyes look droopy. I go to a person and she gives me an option of the length of the lashes as well as the angle of the curl. And THAT ladies and gent really looked natural.
The gaps are there for a reason, it’s to look “natural” since it’s not a glamour lash extension and it should not fill all the gaps, even your natural eyelashes have gaps too.

She did looks happy with them!
The application process was very dramatic with the sound effects 😂
You guys forever be with the sound effects
My eyelash extensions usually cost from $65-$130 depending on how I want them !!
Yes Stacey, you look so good!!!
I’m a pro lash stylist, love the video!! ☺️
Beautiful...great work. Totally natural. Your eyes looks bigger!
Omg why is this so relaxing!!
I love the content but the ASMR is unbearable for me sadly so reading the captions is the way to go 😅
The look of eyelash extensions are so beautiful but I had the worst experience with it.
Them: "you should never hear any loud snapping or tugging noises"
R29: *Adds snapping and tugging sound effects*
hahahaha so true
I got my first eyelash extensions done in Cancun at Bollywood in Plaza Las Americas. They did a wonderful job! I spent about $75 usd. That included eyebrow and upper lip threading with a mascara that they had for the lashes.
I loved the result!! Like she's still pretty but it gives her an interesting look if that makes sense? Good for her
You look amazing with the lashes!!!
I need to get this
We need you all in NYC/NJ.
Was it a MUST for the “Professional Lady “ to have those Huge nails while performing on a clients eye ...? Non Hygienic 😩
I love the sound effects 😍
+graciemae Yay! So do we!!
If you are in the UK, lashes should range from £40-£60 for individual lash extensions. The ones shown in this video are cluster lashes, and will damage your own lashes if you get this type done. Always do your research and look for experienced lash technicians for affordable prices.
This is actually such a cool concept :)
+sheeriobear Glad you like!!
Refinery29 should make asmr videos
Omg my mum did that too but when I was 6 and I almost flinched. Lucky my aunt was there to tell her to stop before I lost an eye 😅😅
My natural lashes haven’t affected negatively at all
They look so good!
This weakens eyelashes. Its ot good n the long run.Castor oil works to grow lashes long.
Fatma Atma mmmm I’ve had lash extensions on and off for about 3 years now. When all the extensions fall off, my natural lashes are still strong. If done correctly you should have no issues with lash extensions
Ya castor oil works wonders! If not like these false lashes, but u can strengthen and thicken Ur own lashes.
Malathi R I had them done a while back but it made my lashes weak and sparse. Im in the process of growing them back in.
Darlene E I believe it was not done right as mine became sparse. Im too scared to try again
Fatma Atma where can I buy castor oil and how do you apply it?? :D I’d love to try to grow out my lashes without getting lash extensions
Holy cow!! These extensions look GREAT!!! And I love the upclose view
5:01 "They look so natural." No they don't!
I agreed she got monolids not suitable for cateye look for that price they shuld do better
it just made her eyes pop...she is so pretty and this just gave sm more pop to her eyes...
It’s just getting eyelash extensions, they made this so dramatic😂😂
Upset with the end result
despite everyone cringing because of sound effects, I happen to watch videos just for it. Am I weird?
Lucie Meimouni same
Yes, very weird. I hate the fucking sounds
This was so calming
+mistyguitierrez Right?!
5:15 ❤️👁
OMG! I totally want them!
“They look so natural”
No girl they definitely not
They look so natural 😍😍
But her left eye is wonky..spot some funky gaps here and there.
The gaps are there for a reason, it’s to look “natural” since it’s not a glamour lash extension and it should not fill all the gaps, even your natural eyelashes have gaps too.
Wow I'm impressed with the technician that takes a lot of concentration and attention to detail.
