Great video :) I liked the idea with hugging the horse - it's nice and it's good for the legs :) What I find really annoying, is that when I have no stirrups my legs are in a better position than when I have my feet in the stirrups. I think that I developed some kind of stiffness in my legs because I was taught to keep myself in the saddle with my knees and thighs. I wasn't taught to use my stirrups in a correct and positive way, I can't use my legs as springs.
Magda: That’s the case for everyone, believe it or not!! It’s easier for most everyone to keep their legs in the correct position withOUT stirrups. The stirrups sort of cause the problems because they invite your legs forward and invite you to push away from the saddle too much becoming to light and high away from it (especially in sitting trot and canter). But these exercises and definitely lunge lessons will help you, I promise! Good luck! And thanks for watching! ❤️
Oh yes, the sitting trot is adorable for me without stirrups :D I once had an advice that I should push down my heels in the stirrups with every stride of a sitting trot, would you agree with this? Do you do anything with your legs in a sitting trot or just let them hang? ;)
Well your ankles do sort of act as shock absorbers in the sitting trot. And, in a way, you can sort of stamp your heels down in the sitting trot to help you get "down" faster. The problem is, the concussion of the horse's gait pushes you up out of the saddle and you as the rider must get back down into the saddle every stride BEFORE you get pushed back out of the saddle in the next trot stride. Don't let anyone fool you, this is difficult for us all. Lunge lessons and riding without stirrups will help you tremendously though. Ride without stirrups for a YEAR, not just "No Stirrup November" and you will be the master of the sitting trot. ;)
Magda, that is such a good comment. I just can't comprehend stirrups. I tend to put weight on them and soon as I do, I'm off balance. Try as I might, just can't feel safe with it, so I remove them. :/
Love me some wing victory !! I did lunge lessons for 9 months and have pretty good balance now and can canter with no 🖐 your right on with lunge lessons 👍🏾 keep up the amazing videos 🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎
Its gonna be my first time riding tomorrow like properly riding lol i was really worried about how to manage and how to sit but thanks to you i think i can do it ❤️!
So I literally had to come back to comment and say today I was watching an equestrian vlogger who was taking her horse to it’s first jump show. After watching your other chair position video I realized this girl was doing it the entire time. Not a single time was her body balanced over her feet. I don’t think I would have noticed it before. I then went and watched a top level competition and every single rider was consistently balanced over their feet. It was actually amazing to watch the difference and how much those horses seemed freed up by how they were ridden. Definitely gave me a new perspective as a viewer and I have a whole new level of respect for top level riders.
Great exercises and explanations, Deanna! I use very similar exercises and explanations with my beginner students as well, 'chair seat' is very hard sometimes to remedy!! We ALL could use more time on the lunge line ;-) It really is my biggest 'pet peeve' and I see so many people, even after many years of riding, STILL riding in chair seat :( I insist that my riders, no matter how 'beginner' they are, develop their seat and leg first (leg under the body!!!) , because without that and the proper balance, how can one ever have an independent hand? My next biggest pet peeve is the turned out toes, using either the heel or the back of the calf to squeeze and/or grip and again, I see this over and over but particularly with the hunt/forward seat riders....and knee gripping.....oh boy, I better stop or a rant may be coming on, ha ha! Keep up the great work! I will for sure send links to your video's for my students to see your great demonstrations and for them to realize, there is a reason for the torture, ha ha!
Huh, the music during the longing portion is used all the time in The Black Tapes podcast! Caught me by surprise. Really enjoyed the video, and solid advice!!
The problem is with incompetent riding instructors whining about your chair seat yet only showing you tricks to "fix it" which end up being only for show the moment your horse takes a step forward. The reason horse riders (especially experienced ones) are still stuck in a chair seat position is because the actual underlying problem is inflexibility in the hip flexors and/or quadriceps etc. yet they are never acknowledged of that fact because of incompetence. You don't visit the doctor to listen to him diagnose your ailment yet not give you the proper treatment and/or explain the cause with instructions on how to prevent it but only tells you to eat healthier (bad example but I hope you get it)
The main problem I see with riders that are stuck in a chair seat is the unwillingness to stay on the lunge line for the appropriate amount of time to learn an independent seat. Students say they want to develop a great seat with great balance but are unwilling to put in the work to achieve it.
@@DeannaThompsonCorby Is it unwillingness or actually being unable to? you can't make someone do the splits if they don't have the flexibility to do so, neither can someone stuck in a chair seat force his lower legs back while keeping his back straight without pulling a muscle. What I meant to say my previous comment, this video works for everyone except the minority whom just don't have the flexibility for it. Someone can have a chair seat in a jumping saddle (the problem is magnified on one of those) yet sit properly on a fitting dressage saddle.
The horse in the video has pretty unfortunate confirmation. His pelvis is tilted in such a way that it appears he is sway back. This also allows him to travel with his abdominals disengaged and his belly distended. Although the confirmation of this horse leaves a lot to be desired this is one of the most incredible, trustworthy, reliable, kind and beautiful horses I have ever met. I just love him, poor conformation and all. ❤️

Magda me too I think that's natural

Amazing. I will definately try this out. Wish you could be my riding instructor
+Magda du Plooy: I would love that! Maybe we can set up a clinic one day! 💜✈️
Its my 3rd week of training and thanks to your videos which compliment my training, I can do sitting trot and canter. God bless you!

I am so glad! 😁
Great information thank you. You have a new subscriber now!
Thank you! 💙😁
brilliant
This is awesome! 🙏
Thanks for watching! 😍
I find pulling my leg back throws my upper body forward?
You're probably tight down your hip flexors
Never use an anterior pelvis tilt to “fix” your leg. 🙄
Nico is such a good model 😍
Nico is the most perfect horse in the entire world ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I can stand up with my leg in the right position but when I do it in trot it goes in the chair position! any tips?
While practiscing gardner's knee the heel goes up. How to keep that down so as to maintain balance?
Try gaining more flexibility in your ankles and calf muscles by doing yoga, including the exercise called Downward Facing Dog.
Yesterday I had an emotional breakdown because I could never understand what my trainer was talking about. Time to check out how it works!
It’s difficult!! Keep working hard, you will get there! 💜
🙋nice
Wing victory is my trainer's 2nd favorite form of torture the first is posting without stirrups
😜
Omg I have literally been riding in the chair seat for like 5 years and never been corrected XD
It's great I have a natural posture, I dont have to worry about learning how to sit on a horse
something is wrong with this bay horse's body
the back seems to be too low
is there any reason to that?
That’s a great observation. I made a video about this horses confirmation that you can see here: ruclips.net/video/LdTX7H-2nGc/видео.html
you absolute goddess

Be nicer to your horse model
That horse has a really weak back
