That's interesting... My Dad loves Kronenburg and yet I have heard people talk about how the Aldi Brasserie beer is disgusting. It just goes to show what slapping a brand on a bottle/can can do. I recommend trying the Saint Etienne beer (ironically from Belgium not France). That's probably my favourite "cheap" beer. Nice review, nice camera, keep it up!
A good friend of mine was a little sceptical when he saw this review, so, I gave him blind taste and he preferred the brasserie beer. The peroni v's Rossini was fun and I was genuinely surprised, supermarket can produce decent own brand stuff. thanks for the comment, appreciate the feed back, cheers !
The Kronenbourg is brewed with glucose syrup now. I may be wrong but I think it's so they can keep the price down while keeping the "premium" strength. Great channel by the way.
I think a lot of the stronger lagers do, I started trying strong lagers for a laugh thinking they’d be foul, but found that most are not bad, don’t get wrong we’re not talking gourmet, but not bad. I like the sweeter back end and find they have a bigger malt taste, I mean you wouldn’t want many, as the hangover would most likely do you in, but on the whole, for the price not bad. Cheers !
Aldi's Brasserie 1897 is a bit of a weird one for me has a kind of herb like hop bitterness. I wouldn't call it awful but something about the beer that just isn't pleasant for me. My favourites from Aldi is the one trying to knock off Peroni lager and they do that pleasant Weissbier. Aldi beers in general are usually ok.
The problem is that the big brewers just move the brewing around for commercial reasons and to my mind usually wreck the taste. I recall other lagers that I used to like - while they were imported. Once they brewed them in the UK they were crap. This is not to say I dislike British beers - only the ones that have been screwed over by the brewing giants. And I'd go for Aldi's 1897 over British Kronenbourg - but I wonder where they brew the Kronenbourg you buy in France?
We British brew great ales and ciders especially from North England!! but don't know where these micro beers are getting brewed in London maybe not sure but when we try to brew French German and Belgium beer's something goes wrong either it's to carbonated got less body or lowerd abv but it's definitely not the same when it comes from abroad maybe its just my taste buds lol
you are not wrong mate, I'm almost done with lager. the stronger ones have a full flavour, but you can't really have a few if they are high strength, not without consequences. cheers !
The 1897 is more like a wheat beer which the Germans do so well. They are two different beers both are good. The 1897 is great value for money not that 1664 is pricey.
There is a movement of getting really nice European beers and brewing them in London. They are no longer original beers. and usually taste awful. E.G. Stella Artois - absolutely dreadful.
Hear hear . . The brewers discovered a long time ago with the likes of Brew XI ,Watneys Red Barrel and " Party Seven " cans that , unlike people in Europe , the British will drink absolutely any crap you put before them as long as it'll get them drunk .
That’s what I thought, blind tastes tests are a shocker, although really I should just say which I prefer but it is interesting to try and guess which is which.
This "beer" has to be one of the most disgusting drinks I've ever tasted .I don't believe it was brewed at all , more like knocked up in a chemical plant . Chemical "fruit" flavour , a sweetener that leaves exactly the same aftertaste in your mouth that saccharin does . What is it supposed to be , the second step on the Alcopops to "grown ups" drinks ?
I'm drinking one now and as soon as I had my first sip I didn't like it thought it was really sweet for a lager, immediately looked up reviews to see what other ppl think and can't believe hardly anyone is saying the same.

The Saint Etienne we get in Australia is brewed in France 🤷🏻 not a bad drop $8.99 for six
@@roddevereaux1830 I got a can last weekend .... They've changed it back to being a product from France now thankfully 😃👍🏼

Husband loved this whilst sipping his 1897! He felt vindicated! 😆
He’s clearly a gentleman of taste. Blind taste testing is the way to go, I genuinely have no idea which way it will go, just stating which I prefer.
@@ivehadworse7713 Oh goodness...he does it with everything; cornflakes, peach slices...35 years of this ! :-)

I actually like the 1897, celery on the beak with a pleasant after taste

Alsace! Where over 60% of french beers are brewed :)
@@gldh6128 Glad to hear it. Probably worth buying some if we get to France later in the year then.
We just did a blond test and i can reveal the best one was... the numbers. Good drinking!
Exactly how much is a case of this 1897 beer from Aldis ?
Just had a look on that there Aldi's web site, they only offer it in 4 x 440ml cans £3.59 making it around 89p, (89.7p to be precise) a can.
These 1897 beers are decent for there price. I tend to be a lot less hungover on them too.
Ah , I see you're a "drink to get smashed " person rather than a " drink to appreciate and enjoy it's quality " person .
Nothings the same

That's why I stopped drinking lager most of time .drink beer with taste now

I like a french beer brewed in england by a dutch company or a english beer brewed in france by a polish company
Ha ha , ha i think it the law now that Heineken has to brew everything.

I don't drink lager, wherever it is from.
Kronenbourg is shit out of can bottles love it beautiful out of bottles
Has to be 1664 for me
I like Aldi beers but can definitely tell the crappy one out of these two... You can't mimic the original!

Kronenburg has gone downhill anyway
