I am glad I found your channel I am Egyptian and we don't go through those stuff as critical thinking in school or college in my country and I wanted to learn about it so bad So thank you sir
Great content! The way you break down critical thinking into understandable concepts makes it so easy to follow along. Thank you for making this course enjoyable! 🙌
man listen. Thank you for this video. I used to do policy debate in high school so this watch was just for leasiure. I found myself taking notes and looking for the rest of the lectures. Thank you for making me feel less crazy! cuz I thought I had to be making these things up based on how people engage withone another today. my goodness that you so much
Excellent lecture. I’ve found some other Philosophy lectures that I’ve been listening to through a couple o years and this one adds perfectly to what I’ve learned. A philosophy teacher said in a podcast: “Philosophy is the tool you have to detect imbecility”. I wish everyone had it in their toolbox.
thanks man in my college (INDIA) theres a subjet called as LLC-critical thinking and our sir teached us more than 100 hrs of critical thinking and told us to watch ur vids for revision
Hi Allan thanks for this great course is it possible to access the slides as well? I found them very helpful and keen to review them more often to grasp the knowledge
I don't know how you expect someone to follow this waffle theis is like watching someone's court case thank you for putting aside with time to make this course I'm sure it helps a lot of people you obviously know what you're talking about but I'm struggling to pay attention to it do you know of the same sort of course with a bit more uplift and pictures❤
An opinion is just a belief, and a belief can be about factual things, like that the earth revolves around the sun, etc. or about non-factual things, like the yumminess of vanilla ice cream. So an opinion isn't the opposite of a fact.
There is a distinction in that critical thinking is an analysis of how we think, giving attention to the unconscious influences as well as the conscious techniques we can use to do it well. Epistemology as a philosophy utilizes critical and logical thinking, but it is foremost about the nature of belief, knowledge, etc. What is knowledge, how does it differ from belief, when are we justified in saying we "know" x, etc.?
I think critical thinking can be taught, at least the elements necessary for developing the skills. Some of it is common sense, but common sense often leads us to fall into some big traps. It's useful for being able to see the traps ahead of us and avoid them. Logic was one of the best courses I ever took, and it really made a difference in my own thinking. And I think that logic is both an art and a science - at least in the classical understanding of science as knowledge and art as a way of production.
@@allandidonato Thank you for these 3(one's on a second video) very thoughtful responses to my questions! I really appreciate it. Are you familiar with Dr. Sean McFate? The reason I asked if critical thinking is an art vs a science is because of his video on the subject here on RUclips called "what is strategic thought?". I wonder what you think of it, if you're familiar. I am so happy I've bumped into your channel.
@Theseustoo Astyages Considering that all sciences sprung from Philosophy, and that all Philosophers were Mystics until Plato, it is indeed clear how the Sciences and the Arts are inter-linked. I, too, wait for the day when we return to our natural greatness, to the so called "Participatory Age", instead of our "Observable" one. Where participation mystique is present again in our daily lives. To be exact, my vision goes even before the first Philosophers, but that's a conversation for another day...
@Theseustoo Astyages Mysticism deals with alterations of consciousness that give people meaning and a sense of belonging to the world as well as helps them deal with the fear of death. I don't see any reason to escape such things and I don't believe that's what we've been doing at all. A good day to you, too.
I am glad I found your channel

There may be a printable transcript that would help.
Hi Allan thanks for this great course
is it possible to access the slides as well?
I found them very helpful and keen to review them more often to grasp the knowledge
I will look into how I can share those.
Awesome lecture! Where would rhetoric fit in this lecture?
Well, I discuss rhetoric in episode 3 I believe.
What a wonderful lecture!!!
Glad you think so!
I am Egyptian and I thank you ❤
You’re welcome
If a critical thinking course isn't required learning for COPS, then that is a fundamental problem of the law enforcement industry.
Any industry really.
All of this, for free? Man, we are living in blessed times.
So different from growing up with 3 networks and the public library.
@@allandidonato I have forgot to write, thank you very much. Something with uncomparable worth you have shared with the world. Thank you sir.
Where can I get the course lectures in pdf or ppt?
In my college course the student have access to the PowerPoints, but the videos I put out are basically built off the same materials.
@@allandidonato Thanks, I found solution for that as well.
can i use this as a course for levels critical thinking 9694
Of course. Designed for it.
Love, thanks sir
Most welcome
good intro
Is Philosophy is Logic ?
Yes. Major part of critical thinking is logic and philosophy but not merely.
Actually I'm sorry the videos are there for me to watch again and again if I need to and that is what I should do❤❤
That’s usury the best way to get the hang of the concepts. The later videos do get shorter and more visual.
@@allandidonato yes I am starting to quite enjoy
Sir recommend some books for critical thinking???
There are tons of books out there and most would be good starter texts. This one is pretty decent - Critical Thinking by Chatfield.

No
Read more comic books. Then you’ll be really happy.
Is a knowledge necessarily true?
If it's not true, it's not knowledge.
@@allandidonato Thank you.
I couldn't understand difference between fact vs opinion 😢
Really?
An opinion is just a belief, and a belief can be about factual things, like that the earth revolves around the sun, etc. or about non-factual things, like the yumminess of vanilla ice cream. So an opinion isn't the opposite of a fact.
What, then, is the distinction between Epistemology and Critical thinking? Is there one?
There is a distinction in that critical thinking is an analysis of how we think, giving attention to the unconscious influences as well as the conscious techniques we can use to do it well. Epistemology as a philosophy utilizes critical and logical thinking, but it is foremost about the nature of belief, knowledge, etc. What is knowledge, how does it differ from belief, when are we justified in saying we "know" x, etc.?
@@allandidonato That really cleared things up for me, thank you very much, Allan ;)
@Theseustoo Astyages Thanks for the input, man👍
There is the claim that critical thinking cannot be taught. What's your opinion on that? And do you view critical thinking as an Art, or Science?
I think critical thinking can be taught, at least the elements necessary for developing the skills. Some of it is common sense, but common sense often leads us to fall into some big traps. It's useful for being able to see the traps ahead of us and avoid them. Logic was one of the best courses I ever took, and it really made a difference in my own thinking. I think Critical thinking is more about habits rather than intelligence
