    From experience this is probably the level you're at if you've already finished the Finnish course on Duolingo but left most skills at level 2 or lower.

    how is this aimed at an absolute beginner?

    • @chelseaag1928
      @chelseaag1928 4 года назад +1

      Jonybat How is it not? It’s tremendously basic and slow. If you went over a few chapters in a grammar book you’d understand at least a few words here and there

    • @ayw5118
      @ayw5118 4 года назад +10

      @@chelseaag1928 If I don't understand at least 80% then I wouldn't say it's basic. if you can only pick out " a few words here and there" how can you say it's tremendously basic and slow? The vocabulary involved in this " absolute beginner" series are indeed not basic at all.

      Indeed. It´s misleading and incorrect.

    I'm Finnish and just a note for anybody learning; nobody speaks this slow in reality. Although people might do that if you ask them to "puhua hitaammin" :D

      @@GemBem10 As a beginner I realize how unnaturally slow it is, and I still don´t understand a word. I prefer the method that starts with very easy, very short sentences, b ut keeps the vocabulary to a minimum and uses (more or less) normal speed.

    Every single video of this listening practice: Hi everyone! I'm [name]! How are your [language] listening skills?
    Me: It's kinda creepy

    Sooo, no subtitles, no transcript, no nothing. How is this useful?

    • @ninahansen4051
      @ninahansen4051 5 лет назад +3

      It comes in the "second round". First you hear it without the subtitles, then the subtitles are added. It is extremely useful! And I find that this way if doing it makes me pay more attention to the spoken words, if the subtitles were there all the time, I would probably just be reading them and not listen properly.

      I am a complete beginner and during the first listen I managed to understand 60-75% of it after 2 months of studying Finnish. The remaining vocab can be quite easily understood from the context and after I learned the words I didn't get I understand 100% of it.
