  • #DeanParkModelRailway #Hornby #EverardJunction In this video I go on a BIG trip south to visit my good friend Richard of Everard Junction. Join me as I travel First Class on an Azuma, spend a great day at the Great Central Railway and also do some modelling with Richard for the Dean Park Layout. LOTS of real train footage from the legendary BR 9F and Class 45 'Peak' locos along with model trains and a great 'how to' on weathering up Class 45 'Peak' Cabs. I round up the video by sharing my first trip on the Caledonian Sleeper. BUY YOUR 3D Printed Peak Cabs at the link below, for a 15% discount using the code 'PEAK15'. westhillwagonworks.co.uk/?aff... Massive thanks to Richard of Everard Junction for allowing me to visit.

Bet that took a while to edit Dave! Thanks for coming down and I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. You'll have to build yourself a Dean Park Metals yard for those peak cabs now! The sleeper certainly looks like something I need to try, always fancied a trip on that. Cheers

Use a white oil paint to fade back the blue paint to give it a sun baked look and you can strip most of the paint off and rust it

Great video Dave, having seen the peak cabs on one your Facebook updates it prompted me to purchase a set a few months ago. They have sat in the box ever since. Having watched this video I really like the way they have turned out and it’s given me some ideas and hopefully I will get to work on them in the near future.
Has for your trip to the great central railway it’s nice to see you had a great time. It’s a lovely railway and not to far from me and I regularly visit it. I also enjoy a day taking photos in one of the many popular spots along the line. I like both the peak and the 9F but having been lucky enough to drive 92214 that as to be my favourite. Keep up the good work.

Dave that was a wonderful excursion to watch. While I do enjoy model railways and follow you and Richard, I also, like you, enjoy the real thing. I have been fortunate enough to ride sleepers from London to Aberdeen (in the 70's) and long distance to Bangkok (in the 00's). In my opinion there is nothing like enjoying a sleeper train, and while it has it's drawbacks, there is a romance about the experience that is second to none.

Loved the video and am SO envious of you travelling on the sleeper - one of my "to do" list activities.
Great to see preserved locos too, but as you said, the 45 was mostly coasting. One of my favourite spotting locations was the old Pilmoor Junction on the ECML (you'd have passed it on your journey south) to where I used to do a 35 mile round trip cycle ride on regular Saturdays. Now here I would see such beasts as Deltics (and 45's) thundering past at full speed and turned up to 11! The variety was also wonderful back then; DMU's, 20's, 25's, 31's, 37's, 40's, 43's, 45's, 46's, 47's, 55's, 56's, 58's & on 1 occasion 50 014 "Warspite", fresh out of Doncaster Works. To be honest, I find it a bit sad to see these majestic machines dawdling along :-(
On the subject of "Peaks", I've always only regarded Class 44 as true "Peaks", as they were the only ones actually named after "Peaks", of which, as a keen fellwalker I have climbed all but 1 - 44 010 Tryfan. The pride of my diesel fleet is 44 003 Skiddaw, which I can actually see from my bedroom window - the hill, not the model lol!
Being originally from Yorkshire and now living in Cumbria, my layout is taking something of a "mashup" theme: I wanted steam & diesel so am modelling Era 5, but wanted to reflect where I came from & where I now live. To this extent, the colour scheme for my buildings is North Eastern Region, but the motive power (currently) has a north-western feel, the above-mentioned Peak being accompanied by Princess Coronation Class City of Carlisle as my two mainline express locomotives. This situation may take something of a Southern diversion though, as an ex-Maunsell push pull set would work perfectly going to and from the branch line terminus on my layout...
Sorry to have gone on a bit.
Loving your work and in awe of the detail!
    Tony.

At these preserved railways, try and go round the sidings, you never know what you'll find lol. I was doing a fire risk survey in Bewdley, Worcestershire. While going through their sidings there to get to one of their far buildings, I saw the flying Scotsman, just after it had been sold, and before it was restored to the glory it is now. Before being restored and put back into service, the previous owners had it stored at Bewdley for quite a few years as they had nowhere to keep it. Most of the time it was under tarpaulin outside, but I managed to see it uncovered and being prepared for transporting to go to be restored. It wasn't in the best condition, but still amazing to be that close to an iconic engine.
Another video Dave, nice to see you and Richard together again. Keep up the good work

Hi, well that was an enjoyable watch, thank you. The Great Central Railway is my local preserved line, and I kind of like the 45 over the 9F although both are great. I remember seeing the Peaks on the Midland Main Line in the 70's and 80's, I don't remember the end of steam, so maybe that's why I prefer the Peak. Anyway I enjoyed the real railway parts of the trip too, but the new trains aren't a patch on a 125 for comfort! Thanks again and best wishes Dave.

Great video David. The Great Central railway is very unique in that a lot of it is double track and you pass trains going t other way - just like on the big railway !!!
Goes without saying that 45125 would be my favourite loco, but itwas a featherweight train and she didn't really make much noise. I have fond memories of riding behind peaks in the early 1980s where the "ton" was not uncommon. I get a little irritated by folk who slag them off using the derogatory nickname "wagon". If only they knew that a peak would easily outperform a 47 on freight and passenger work.

Really enjoyed your Big Trip. You chose the best side on the Azuma and I think the right choice going 1st class. I have not done that myself but after a couple of hours in standard the hard seats are rather uncomfortable. The GCR 9f over the mighty peak for me although close up the peak is a huge beast and easily played with your train on that line. I was surprised how narrow the sleeper compartments are. For the Fallen has not been out for a while, Yesterday Friday 29th April I found out why. She has had a make over for an unveiling event in York station in memory of two railwaymen killed when the station was bombed in WW2. Hopefully you will be given the chance to see her another day. These days they only run 91's as far as York and Leeds. Good to see you and Richard doing model work together again.

Another interesting video Dave, I do enjoy these 'meet ups' that you and Richard and some of the others do, particularly the way you bounce ideas and your enthusiasm for the hobby. Nice to see the Peak again, she use to be an annual visitor to my home town Cleethorpes hauling the day tripper specials. Luckily for me work often gave me the opportunity to use the Euston to Aberdeen sleeper service, looks like those Mk5 may not be as good as the Mk4 space wise. Of course time and rolling stock moves on, there was something rather special though in riding in the club car through Aberdeenshire heading South sat on a Chesterfield sofa enjoying a dram after eight weeks off shore. Looking forward to seeing your progress on the the Great Wall of Dean Park.

Great video Dave hope you had a great trip.
It was good to hear some positivity with the Azuma units especially after you had travelled on it, I really like them and while I wasn’t for them originally because they were replacing the HSTs and 91s in my opinion it is time for a change and where I live I’m almost guaranteed to see one or at least hear one going past my house, on a side note I have seen the celebrating Scotland one and if you want to I do have a video of it on my channel travelling to kings cross from Leeds, the video is only the train passing the camera and is very short.
When you were talking of the locomotives that have travelled on the east coast mainline when you said the mighty deltics I hope you was including DP2 in there as well, while she technically wasn’t a deltic she did travel on the east coast, was done up in deltic two tone green and although she wasn’t a deltic there were some aspects of the locomotive that were more superior to the mighty deltics.
The peaks are fantastic locomotives and in my opinion one of britains best, I think I have mentioned before that they are quite significant in my family because my dad when he was young was able to see every single one built and when you consider that it is three classes of locomotive that is quite an achievement.
Hope you had a great time at Richards layout and it was good to see some of your stock running round the layout.

The layout. I note what appears to be some "canted" track, the coal train runs over. I also installed some canted track on one of my 5ft miniimum radius curves, on my exhibition layout. But this has revealed a number of locos do not like Peco code 75 track when "canted", which seems to cause slight jerkiness (interference with pick up). Worst offenders seem to be Dapol & Heljan locos, & a wicked Hornby 4VEP, that came fitted with stupid steam roller wheels, but now runs on Bachmann trailer bogies and replacement motor bogie NEM wheelsets, so finally "cants" perfectly.
    Happy Modelling 😝.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  2 года назад +1

Yes if I’m honest, code 75 (while more realistic) is soo fine and the trains don’t always like it.
If I did another layout I’m not even sure I’d go to 75 from 100. I don’t have any hassles with code 100, my trains run flawlessly and I don’t have issues with trains moving on to my canted curves.

Great video, Dave: something a bit different. I was struck by how widely coupled the Azuma carriages looked to be: they need to get some close couplings so they don't need such big corridor connections!
Those class 45 cabs look great, and as Richard said, a good way to practice weathering before hitting a £x00 loco.
Do they not have the club car on the sleeper any more? The one time I used the sleeper (up to Aberdeen, for a job interview) I rather enjoyed the club car. Proper seats on a train was a novel experience, and a fair selection of whisky, I seem to remember.
Doesn't look to be much difference to the cabins to what I remember from the early 90s, except fancier switches. Looks to be a similar size cabin, if not a bit smaller now.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  2 года назад +1

Hi yeah they have club cars. But it was too late (for me!) to go there and really have anything.
Yeah they say these new ones are a bit narrower than the mk3 cabins. Which is crazy really!

Class 45 Peaks. Yes big, with a problematic 1-Co-Co-1 wheel arrangement. First time they ran one into Ramsgate EMU depot (from an Inter-regional service in the 1960's), they discovered these bogies didn't like very sharp pointwork, as the whole loco decided to take neither route and instead go for an "Earth fault" (all wheels in the dirt). Putting this hefty beast (over 120 tons) back on the track was complicated by the fact no crane could get near it due to various structures close by. In the end it took over 24 hours to slowly chock & block it, with sleepers & hydraulic gear.

I wanted to know why don’t they dig a tunnel and do an extension for the main line Train so they extend the unused abandoned underground stations.
Why couldn’t they use the part D78 Stock train doors on the sides and also restructure the front face of the A60 and A62 stock and remix and make them all together and also redesign them overhead line and also make them into 5 cars per unit and also having 2 Disabled Toilets on those 5 cars per unit A60 and A62 stock trains and also convert the A60 and A62 stock trains into a Scania N112, Volvo TD102KF, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Engines and also put the Loud 7-Speed Voith Gearboxes in the A60 and A62 stock and also modernise the A60 and A62 stock and make it into a 11 car per unit so it could have less doors, more tables, computers and mobile phone chargers.
A Stock Trains and also having 8 Disabled Toilets on those A stock trains. why couldn’t we refurbish and modernise the waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel and make it more bigger and extend it to bank station, making it into a Triple-Track Railway Line so those 4 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden to convert the waterloo and city line Triple-Track Train tunnel into an High Speed train.
The Third Euro tunnel Triple-Track Train line to make it 8 times better for passengers so they could go from A to B. then put the modernised 11 car per unit A Stock and put them on a bigger modernised waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel so it could go to bank station to those 4 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. The modernised refurbish 11 cars per unit A stock could be a High Speed The Third Triple-Track Euro Tunnel Train So it is promising and 37 times a lot more possible to do this kind of project that is OK for London Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden.
oh by the way, could they also tunnel the Triple-Track Railway Line so it will stop from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex so that the Passengers will go to Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden and also extend the Triple-Track Railway Line from Bank to Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex Stations so that more people from there could go to Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden Easily.
Why couldn't they extend the Piccadilly line and also build a brand-new underground train stations so it could go even further right up to Clapton, Wood Street and also make another brand new tunnel train stations in Chingford and could they extend the DLR.
All of the classes 150, 155, 154, 117, 114, 105, 106, will be replaced by all of the Scania N112, Volvo TD102KF, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel five carriages to disabled toilets are air conditioning trains including Highams Park for extend doing roots which is the Piccadilly line and the DLR trains.
Could you also convert all of the 1973 stock trains into an air-conditioned maximum speed 78 km/hours (48 MPH) re-refurbished and make it into a 8 cars per unit if that will be alright, and also extend all of the Piccadilly train stations to make more space for all of the extended 8 car per unit 1973 stock air condition trains and can you also build another Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive Companies and they can order Every 17 Octagon and Hexagon shape LNER diagram and unique small no.11 Boilers from those Countries such as Greece, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, can they make Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive speeds by up to 117MPH so you can try and test it on the Original Mainline so it will be much more safer for the Passengers to enjoy the 117MPH speed Limit only for HS2 and Channel Tunnel mainline services, if they needed 16 Carriages Per units can they use those class 55’s, class 40’s and class 43HST Diesel Locomotive’s right at the Back of those 16 Carriages Per Units so they can take over at the Back to let those Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s have a rest for those interesting Journeys Please!!, oh can you make all of those Coal Boxes’s 16 Tonnes for all of the 117MPH Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s so the Companies will Understand us PASSENGER’S!! so Please make sure that the Builders can do as they are Told!! And Please do something about these very important Professional ideas Please Prime Minister of England, Prime Minister of Sweden, Prime Minister of Germany, Prime Minister of Italy, Prime Minister of Poland and that Includes the Mayor of London.
