Here in Italy we also have persimmons a fruit with which I grew up, but other than the hard ones we have the soft version of it and it's called Cachi. So sweet like a dessert with a natural vanilla flavor. However the fruit is said to be originally form China and appeared in Italy/ Europe in 1871. Plus here in Italy it is forbidden to put little kids in the shopping cart as they can contaminate it with their soles's shoes

In East Asian countries they're super picky about their fruit and only want the best / perfect fruit. That's why they're so expensive.
