Stephan Hassenfeld is rolling in his grave. The 80s team had passion and belief in the brand; they went all in on this franchise and won a generation. Now the suits at Half-ass-bin think that going get the same result with a half-hearted effort without thinking of the consumer.

Never had the Striker, could use another HISS Tank, and so I went ahead and ordered the full set. May return Baroness and Storm Shadow when I get it, but I'll keep Snake Eyes cause I like the packaging. That being said, the fact that we don't get true retro figures is a huge wasted opportunity.

I was CRUSHED when I seen these figures! 😖 I played with vintage Joes as a child. They were a HUGE part of my childhood. We had battles in the stream behind our home DAILY with the neighborhood children. When I seen Hasbro would be releasing "Retro" Joe's in my mind they could only be one thing. A reproduction of my childhood. A reproduction of the best times of my childhood. Reproductions of the vintage GI joe figures. I can not afford to pay crazy prices for the original figures. I was BEYOND excited for this release. Walking into a Walmart store and seeing the exact thing I seen 30 years ago. Walking back in time. I had already decided I would purchase doubles of every "retro" figure released. I planned on opening one and building a toy store pegboard to display the carded figures at a affordable price for me. Like the collections i love looking at in pictures and videos i would have the next best thing in my own home. Im just devastated, I honestly am. I will not be buying any of these "retro" figures. They just mean absolutely NOTHING to me. I have zero connection with the figures sealed on that card. 2020 surely has been a nightmare. 😔

Once again you are right on with your assessment. I'm not impressed with this new retro wave of GI Joe... at frickin all. I'll be the first to admit that I have an addiction to plastic. I spend alot of my hard earned money on plastic for the pure nostalgia of it. If I'm honest, Hasbro gets alot of my cash just due to their market share... but this sh#t... this sh%t will not stand. You have put it perfectly that the recent releases of the Bespin carbon freeze chamber, and the Walmart exclusive retro GI Joe are like the Corona virus of toys. They've shown every reason why an out of touch toy company doesn't deserve unquestioned loyalty.
I love the channel man. Keep up the great work. You constantly help remind me that toys are about the fun, entertainment, and at our ages the nostalgia.

Nice video Tony, intriguing topic. For my money here... I do think Hasbro is a bit of a victim of “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”. Fan backlash for releasing items that can be confused for actual vintage toys is pretty harsh (quality aside). I’ve seen arguments for and against vintage style toys as 1:1 recreations, however it seems that the overwhelming opinion on retro Joe toys is for O-ring style toys. You’re bang-on about voting with your dollar tho, that’s what counts.

Maybe an updated version of the Dragonfly which is an actual RC chopper with room for a figure in the cockpit compartment....
And of course some army builder packs for generic Cobra troopers, Maybe a new version of the Hiss Tank, Trouble Bubbles, ext...
Maybe some new large bases/playsets (Like an updated Cobra missile base roughly the size of a Barbie dreamhouse.... Complete with missile...)

Addmitedly I do like the Hiss and awe striker they announced. But I’m vastly disappointed in the figures and the rest of the announcements. I think, if they had been up front by saying “we’re bringing back the 25th line” the overall reaction wouldn’t have been so sour. But it was their insistence on using the phrase “retro line” in the marketing. Retro could have only meant O ring Joes. The 25th line isn’t even old enough to be considered retro or vintage. And then making them Walmart exclusive on top of that? It was just the twisting that knife. I won’t be buying any of them. If they can pull their heads from their asses and do what we’ve all been asking for, for decades in some cases, I’ll give them my money. But until such a time, I’ll just keep my money.

I as a guy who wasn't born in the late 70's, 80's or early 90's, I was always very facinated with vintage toys, especially the ones made by Hasbro and I totally get how they has been ripping off people in the recent years with the "Nostalgia Money Raking" strategy. I do hope that someday new and old collectors will finally get the action figures they deserve to pay with their hard earned capital. Hasbro and other companies need to understand that they are the ones who have to meet the criteria of the collector's wishes and demands, not make something that maybe might interest the collector or barely interest them at all.

I could almost excuse Hasbro for releasing dregs like these (or even releasing no Joes at all) right now in hopes of a proper o-ring retro series for the ARAH 40th anniversary in 2022. Here’s hoping...🤞🏼

I agree man. Nothing’s better than the vintage line. Cards are cool and figures suck

I'm guessing refitting the factory to incorporate metal hooks and legs assembly into the figure would be an obstacle to O-ring figures coming back? Just a thought.

Yet, "factory customizers" can pump them out? Not buying that.

I’m probably in a minority here, but I feel like the 1980s Joes were built in the best way. The articulation is better than anything since. I’m unsure why they wouldnt just do the same thing they did with the Real Ghostbuster’s line, in that they literally recreated them. If they reproduced Joes like that it would take the world by storm. You can’t even get the Real Ghostbusters on the shelves at walmart right now, because of demand. I can’t imagine GI JOE would be any different. I liked this video, and I felt like it was pretty much what my line of thinking has been.

In the Hasbro video yesterday, the lady said "Go Joe!" with so much pride that it was embarrassing to tell her the phrase is actually "Yo Joe!"
But the things online sold out in no time

I found this disappointing too. I was hoping it'd be a new 'modern' era Joe line, not o-Ring, but what we got? Jeeze. Snake Eyes v54 for the third time, but without the Commando head, despite using the v1 Commando artwork. 5 Pack Baroness for the third time. Best paint for the face, but nothing new. Renegades Storm Shadow for the third time, now missing parts, despite Ultimate Storm Shadow existing. Yes, two of these figures are still expensive, but these are incomplete.
I was really hoping for a really good Duke v1 and Scarlett. Scarlett does not have a good modern figure period, she needed an ultimate so badly back in Retaliation. Same goes for Tunnel Rat. Roadblock could do with a retail upgrade. How about some of the characters the club had to do like Cover Girl? Most of us don't have them and the club ones aren't the best. There are still some rare and expensive PoC figures, like Law and Order.
I like Classified and I'm happy with that line, but I was hoping to get some patches for my modern era collection. Not this. This is crap.

As I was born in the late 1990’s I was super excited about a legit retro G.I. Joe line so I could finally have the chance to get the older joes at a decent price. I love modern figures too but I am beyond disappointed with hasbro at this point.

For those of us either starting our collections over from scratch or wanting to start a collection for the first time. I don't know what you expect us to do, as this is presently the only game in town.

I have to agree with you to a point. These aren't bad figures by any means but they are not retro. Really wanted to see o-ring like everyone else. Between ignoring these and classified, I'll continue to collect actual vintage figures.

  • @Barada73

Probably the best evidence that Hasbro just doesn't really care about GI Joe anymore. If they don't have O-rings, then they are not "retro" figures.

I was shocked when I saw that the GI. Joe ”Retro” Line wasn’t retro at all. Yet another batch of modern figures. It woul be cool if they either made reproductions of some classic o-ring figures or, better yet, o-ring figures we wanted but never got. The 6” Classified line however I think look good. At least they are new and original designs. I agree, as usual, with your point Tony!! Take care & be safe!!🤘🏻😎🖤

  • @JG-DX

The line is simply a half-baked minimal effort by designers who's talent is questionable. The mustached product design guy doing the reveal last night looked totally stoned and was highlighting stuff like figure stands and rolling wheels on the Hiss Tank like they were some brand new toy tech never seen before. It was so absurd!

I said this somewhere before. I wish Hasbro would just release all vintage figures, both Star Wars and GI Joe on the original cards. And when I say original cards, I mean both front and back. I'm tired of the price gouging of all the old figures and I hate AFA.
