The food stamps tier is sub it all out for a Streamlight VIR II with a Code 4 Defense adapter. You get IR illum/laser/ and white light all in one unit, no tape switch needed
No problem. The trade off is now your white light is 300 lumens and the IR is a floody 50yard max compared to the anemic 75-100yards a civilian powered LAM gives. But I found it’s worth it for those shorter set-ups
After spending $3500 on a pvs and more on a helmet and mount, this video is very helpful for starting out with a decent setup without breaking the bank any further. Thanks.
That streamlight protac rechargeable is more than double the weight of a TLR-1 HL, I think that those ounces adds up very quickly with this much gear strapped to the very tip of a rifle.
The cheapest night vision setup I run is the Steiner OTAL-C IR for $650'ish on most sites, SureFire M340/M640V for $350-$400 on most sites, but I like the Unity Tactical Switches which around about $150.
Another option that's not quite under 1000 but is still much more affordable than others, and that's very functional on the NV budget minded: Kiji illuminator, Holosun LS117IR, and Streamlight HLX. The Kiji gives you the IR illumination that you don't get from other civie models that's not a Dbal D2 or Mawl. The LS117IR is lightweight & compact IR only LAM. Couple the Kiji & LS117IR with a two lead modbutton. The HLX white light goes on the support side to actuate via clicky tailcap. Works great. Relatively lightweight, and affordable option to get you into the NV game. I run this combination on one of my guns and have been very happy with it.
Great video Hop! I own both the holosun ls321 and the surefire vampire. While the ir laser and ilum of the holosun is focused and fast for hog hunting and etc, I actually really like ir on the surefire vampire as it gives me way more distance and pid range. Also while Definitely slower pairing the vampire ir throw with a piggyback rds on my lpvo i can make pretty far accurate shots without needing an extra device on my patrol rifle
Good info! After looking around, I think I would prefer the LS221 for $520, forgoing the poop teir illuminator and go with the surefire vampire for about $430. Then maybe slap a Unity Sync Axon switch (~$175) for simulatneous laser IR light activation. $1125ish total with a better illuminator. I'm spoiled by a D2 lol. P.S. forgot the tailcap, add another $100+ lol.
After a lot of trial and error, I have a Steiner CQBL with the Echo Arms ILM and a Z-Bolt Blazer IR head. These are controlled by a Unity TAPS Sync. For white light I'm running a Surefire Dual Fuel, activated by a Unity Hotbutton M-Lok mounted offset. This switch setup lets me use laser only, laser + focusable illuminator, or white light only.
I was really looking at doing the LS321 w/ vampire but i think I'm just going to go the Phantom Hill route. A little more pricy, but much simpler. Edit: plus an AEMS
@@Windowlick_ so you have one, have looked thru a pvs14 with it, and compared it against the AEMS and up with that conclusion? Also add 30% to the cost.
