The UCI and multiple race organizers keep talking about riders´ safety, but why do they keep making these extreme finishes with multiple corners, roundabouts and/or 100 slippery white road markers in rainy conditions?
Well, maybe there's no road that is 2 km straight. The finish is in the city, not on the highway, and it is not in Paris. Europe cities just don't have straight streets like USA cities. It is basically impossible to do a save sprint finish in Europe cities. Also there are roundabouts, corners, bumbers everywhere. If there is some straight street, it is probably one of the busiest roads in the city so the council will deny the request for having a race here. Simply its not that easy.
Wow I know Wout bowed out but I started watching this stage highlights on this and other channels and the stark differences of Wout -out of race is now realized or say magnified.
I think it's been like this in the last weeks, in Cantabria and the Basque country. I was in Santander in the 8th of August and I guess I caught the last day of sunshine 😅 It was relatively warm and I was able to go to the beach. The very next day, when I left, it started raining 😅
