    THIS is a COACH. After ALL the videos I've watched they only SAY that power comes from the legs and proper form. THIS COACH is the ONLY ONE to explain in detail how to use your legs EXACTLY. I never thought about pushing my right foot down against the ground. I only rotated my right foot and tried to use my arm strength to attain distance in my throws (unsuccessfully). I can't wait to start working on my new technique. THANKS, COACH.

    This is such a great channel. In the early 90s, there was virtually no discus on TV so I taught myself with three photo sequences in a book from the library from only one angle. Consequently, learned some bad habits, esp my entry from the back of the circle. Maxed out at 45m. Wish I was a beginner again! Now looking to coach my son, so trying to make sure I don't make the same mistakes with him!!! Using your vids especially!!!

    I don’t know if this comment section will still be active, but I’m having trouble releasing the discus from my index finger. It keeps coming out the back of my hand.
    Another problem is that when I throw, I hold on too long to the discus, and I don’t throw it at the highest point. It’s like pointing straight in the air, and then lowering my hand to the level of just above my chest (in front obviously). Any tips for both these problems?

    • @bredcherryyt7531
      @bredcherryyt7531 2 года назад +2

    1. foot placement - front foot half a foot more to the left
    2. long wind up, shoulders parallel to ground
    3. hip in front of shoulder
    4. don't rush - let discus go as late as possible to transfer maximum power
    Will be throwing for the first time at a competition in 2 days... I've never tried it before and don't have the opportunity to tmr either. will update if i remember

    Hello John, Thanks for the tips. I understand something of proper rotation, the hips and the feet placement because its the same for the forehand tennis stroke. However, when looking at your foot placement at the end of the video for demonstration throws your left foot was wider relative to the back foot according to your verbal directions. Can you verify please.

    • @johnbowmandiscus
      @johnbowmandiscus  4 года назад

      But, it does not mean that I can complete at international level? Because I noticed that most world class at under 20s

    • @Sarevok57
      @Sarevok57 3 года назад

      you can be champion starting in your 30s, its just going to be really really REALLY hard. You are going to have to basically eat, breathe, sleep, think discus and nothing else. The amount of discipline you are going to need is going to be basically that of legend. Now with that being said, again, not impossible, but your passion has got to be higher than anyone else for this sport. Luckily the thing that is great about discus is that you can still be an amazing discus thrower in your 40s still getting over 60 meters, but again, you are going to have to train smart and hard to get to that distance, i started my discus "career" at 32 and im now into my 3rd season at 34, and without much coaching im throwing over 40 m, once i really gets some good coaching that will start soaring, i've had a few coaches already saying that i should be hitting over 50 m by now because i have the power. Also, that is another thing, you are going to need a good full time coach as well, to hit that 60 meter mark, its basically going to be impossible to hit that unless you are 6'10 ( 2.10 m ) and can bench press a small car. So if you TRULY desire it, you can become champion, but just remember, it will be the most challenging thing you have ever done in your life, oh and also there is a fellow from poland forget his name, he is in his late 30s and can still hit around 70 meters. So definitely not impossible
