    Hi, I was wondering, is Avocademy the only course you took before you get a job? Does the course cover all the skills you need in the field to get a job?
    Do you need to take any extra lessons online such as Google certification or Udemy courses? What was your major in college?

    • @lanimott2825
      @lanimott2825  Год назад +1

      Hi! Yes, Avocademy was the only course that I took to get the basic skills for a job. With any career, you always want to continue your professional development and focus on skills that you think you can sharpen. After you take the boot camp, and if you choose to enroll in the career jumpstart program, you will find the areas that you know you personally want to improve in. Avocademy has added a lot of content to its courses, so that may be sufficient for you. It all depends on your background and skill set. My college major was music education, so I worked hard at developing my design skills and developing a critical eye for design. Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn if you’d like to chat more!

      @lanimott2825  2 года назад +3

      Thanks Emmanuel! Lol yea I guess I’ll always be a teacher. I’m actually applying for jobs this week. So I did look at the google course and it’s very basic, not as in depth as Avocademy. And there is zero mentor help. You’re pretty much just on your own and you don’t have an experienced team of designers who are using their industry experience to critique your work. The key really is mentorship, getting constant feedback as you your develop your skills. The google UX course lacks that. Avocadmey is the most affordable with the most mentorship.

      I believe they changed it to a flat rate cost ranging from $5k to $6k which you can pay before you start the Career Jumpstart program or once you get a job. The UX/UI Foundations Course plus the Career Jumpstart price Is still one of the most affordable bootcamp programs with unlimited mentorship. You’re paying them for job search assistance and it pays off. They give you personalized help like job opportunities from their network, resume reviews, mock interviews, portfolio walk throughs, interview debriefs, and salary negotiation. Like I said, mentorship is unlimited, not all programs offer that at this price point.

    • @ds1755
      @ds1755 Год назад

      @@lanimott2825 Even if Avocademy changed the 7% to a flat pay back $5K to $6K that doesn’t include the $1997 you paid for the first part of boot camp. So after the dust settles you will be paying $7K to $8K.
      You initially stated in the beginning of the video that you didn’t want to spend $7K to $15K on a course since you have your bachelors. Looks like you still spent that money. In the end what I basically gathered from this is expect to pay/invest in yourself and choose a program or boot camp that fits you.

    • @lanimott2825
      @lanimott2825  Год назад +2

      @@ds1755 I took the course in September of 2021 and the cost of the course by itself was $1,500 then which I paid upfront. As I said, I competed the course with a Portfolio which included one case study.
      Some courses that offer the same and can start at $7k, like Career Foundry, or General Assembly. If a course is significantly cheaper, they do not offer unlimited mentor support, design critiquing and feedback, and your Portfolio is not reviewed by an actual UX Design professional or Product Manager.
      Carrer Jumpstart offers contract work where you can complete 3-5 projects on a design team to add to complete your Portfolio. There is no other learning institution that offers the same volume of real work experience AND a competed Portfolio.
      For me, paying 7% of my salary to gain contract work experience, unlimited job interview support, resume critiques, portfolio critiques was WELL worth the investment. I did not have to pay the 7% upfront. I was only required to begin paying for it once I accepted a job, which I did!
      Another alternative to gaining UX design work experience instead of Career Jumpstart is doing your own freelance work. This would require setting up an LLC, keeping track of your finances, seeking out business leads, etc. PLUS doing all the actual design work. I was working full-time at my day job and couldn’t possibly manage my own freelance business and all the required design work.
      If you have the luxury of time, then freelance work may be the right fit for you! If you’re someone like me who was working full time and couldn’t run a freelance business, Career Jumpstart was the perfect fit for me and worth the 7%. Once I began applying, I was able to land a job in 36 days all thanks to Career Jumpstart mentors and work experience. I’m still at my job now and loving it! Like I said, well worth it
