I am so glad I subbed to you a long time ago. I had watched a few of your videos then out of interest but never made a bag. I had recently started making some and was having a terrible time with the liner not matching up when sewing around the top of the bag. I knew I'd find the answer here! Thank you!

Hey Arthur. There is a tool out there called a hand held electric rope cutter. Basically it's a soldering iron (like your branding iron) with a blade on it. It cuts and burns the edges at the same time. However if you can find a kit that fits your branding iron that has a cutting blade that looks about like a blade for your Xacto kit... that works as well. I use my wood burner tool a lot for burning threads and the like.

I have completed my 3rd project, and because of your teaching talents, it turned out very well.
I made a blood red/no gusset/with zipper purse. It is gorgeous. The only problem I dare say I had was with the top stitching that went around the zipper, it looks fine on the outside but the inside went off track, the stitch is a little wiggly here and there; do you have any suggestion for this?
Thank you again for your videos....keep them coming. God Bless.

I do watch your videos every day !!!!, they are awesome ,actually i was watching this video today, es perfect clear, the only thing is how to put in the bag if the end is different, without the piece of leather did you attach, i mean if the end of the strap is open to attach to the bag. Thanks again !!!.

Hello Del, some people will sew it to the bag and some will rivets, just like I put the strap taps on, that is same way you would sew the straps to the bag of rivet to the bag.

    Hello Mr. Porter,
I'm in love with your work and you've made me a happy sewer of leather. However, I did not see how you measure seam to seam for the top zipper; the camera did not show this. I am a visual aids learner. My first bag had many errors but now you've made me love making bags. I had to order the rivets but I am pressing forward on the rest of this bag. Thank you for inspiring me more.

Another great video. I love the fact that you document your thinking process, when making the purse. It is very helpful. I have a question on zippers. How do I know I am using a good quality zipper? I wouldn't want to sell a purse to a customer and have the zipper brake. Any hints would be much appreciated. Can't wait for your next video!!

Hello Dee, Thank you for taking the time to watch our videos, the one thing I always do is zip the zipper up and down to make sure it will work, YKK is a good zipper.

Hi Arthur , what is the name of the fabric you use as lining ? I also remember in another video you talked about a " fabric hardening " I plan on doing a bag with fabric but I would like it to have more of a stiff look ! where can I find that ? or is that even possible?

    • @ArthurPorter

Mr. Porter, you are great at making all the leather goods you make. I have just started lately. Making wallets and a few clutch purses. I am not smart enough to make my own patterns, so I buy patterns where ever I can find them. I have made a few bags, and have stumbled through them, no instructions. Do you sell your patterns? If so I can I see them and order them? Thanks you.

Arthur, on this bag what is the ounces of your leather your using on both colors and, can you use a regular sewing machine with a leather needle to sew this bag together or do you need to use the industrial sewing machine with a walking foot? Love your videos, hope to see more new videos I am learning so much from you now I just need to buy my supplies and get started but needed to know if I needed a industrial walking foot machine first before I could attempt making a bag. I will be sending you a blank email for a supply and tool list if that's okay. Thank you so much for all you do for everyone. Tammy

I'm really enjoying watching you videos. I've replaced dinette chair backs and seats with spongy backed fabric vinyl using my Kenmore computerized machine with walking foot. They turned out really well. I'm going to try making a leather bag using that same machine. Your videos are great. Keep up the great work.

I always just use the glue from the can, but i would rather use the it from a plastic
container with the attached brush. I purchased the contact glue from home depot.

Good day Mr. Porter, I'm learning so much from you and like others before me have said "You are a wonderful teacher"! Your calming voice and encouraging words has given me confidence I have needed!
I do have a question for you. The green tote you are making in this video, is there a way to close the bag at the end of the zipper? I have made this bag and it turned out really nice but I have had a few folks ask for the ends to completely closed. I can't figure it out. Thanks again for your time and videos.
