I've related this story multiple times during the bad years, I'll do it again: My father was a dentist for nearly 50 years before he retired. He worked most days of the week, and during days he worked, he wore a face mask for hours at a time, every single day, for nearly 50 years. If masks were not only not protective, but actively poisonous, then my father would be dead. Not only is he not dead, he walked the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain in his early 70s. The notion that masks are dangerous is beyond farcical.
@akumakagor - Thank You for sharing this! Anti-maskers are illogical, lazy thinkers 🙄 it’s unreal how they can’t mask for any amount of time! Is there a halitosis connection? Perhaps anti-mask sentiment stems from poor dental hygiene? I’m being serious, not pejorative

Conservatism very often breeds high propensity for irrationality, cultish behaviour, paranoia and just generally moral hysteria. And I think it's because so many conservatives are raised from day one to be terrified of so many things. Terrified of what they can see and just as terrified if not more of what they can't see. Terrified of difference and otherness. And simultaneously, many are brought up with quite anti-intellectual attitudes and a propensity to accept appeals to authority and bandwagon. In contrast, I was raised in a pretty progressive family and extended family, even though they were religious. I've had very diverse experiences growing up in terms of experiencing new and different settings and lifestyles, and that continued into my adulthood. I realised that I am not terrified of anything, or I can't recall anything that has terrified me on that existential level that conservatives are so frequently operating on in their terror. And I think that's the fundamental difference between the conservative mindset and view of reality and everybody else's. Conservatives are conditioned from the day they are born to be absolutely terrified of the unknown, the unfamiliar and the unknowable. It's no wonder it manifests in incredibly irrational and destructive ways.

I've heard numerous people talk about their kids getting covid after going back to school this year already. The cases are on the rise. I'm all for the masks coming back for cold & flu season. Here's the thing, I worked in a school kitchen for 2 school years during some of the mask mandates. The kids had no issues with wearing the masks. Adults complained way more than the kids did. And it worked. My kids almost always caught sicknesses when in school and when they started going with masks on, they didn't get sick and have to miss days so they absolutely do work. I work in a nursing home. I'm going to go back to wearing a mask when I'm in the halls (I work in the laundry) even if no one is making me do it. The Second amendment is outdated and needs to be Amended. In our modern world any second amendment attack on a “tyrannical” government, would constitute terrorism, swiftly dealt with by the United States military who happens to have tanks that are more than lethal at 1.8 miles away, drones that can drop bunker busting bombs 280 (ish) miles away, small tactical nukes, ect. You cannot beat the the US military with small arms, so the intent of the second amendment is already mute as any armed uprising with firearms alone would be doomed to fail when the modern weapons of war arrived, never mind the Air Force. Armored vehicles, RPGs, and small tactical nukes for all citizens or the 2nd amendment means nothing! If you think it's absurd to allow everyday citizens to have RPGs and fully armed f-16's, and killer automated defense systems, then you should acknowledge how absurd it is to have the right to possess a weapon of war for purposes of killing people in the government. We don't have malitias protecting towns anymore we have police officers and other public services. The police and military are quite capable of providing "the security of a free State", we don't need absolutely everyone to "help" by the mere owning of their own personal death machines. The Second amendment definitely needs to be changed, either I can make a small tactical nuke without department of energy coming and taking it away from me, or the general public really shouldn't have freaking machine guns. Which makes more sense to you?
Long-covid SUCKS. I've been dealing with being stupidly tired for no reason 2-3 times a day, and sometimes something as simple as the supermarket being reorganized, making me spent 3 times longer to look for the things I need makes me end up experiencing flu-like symptoms the next day. After catching the virus end of February this year (which was within 3 months of contracting it the "first" time, I think I had it in February 2020 when you could not get tested in The Netherlands, just like in other countries) I spend 1,5 months being unable to keep my balance (not a corona-side effect of the infection per se, but it was noticed in people so much that it was listed as an after effect). When it started getting better I started noticing the flu-like stuff and had a massive setback in me recovering... I am absolutely done with 2023 health-wise as a result...

If masks were not only not protective, but actively poisonous, then my father would be dead. Not only is he not dead, he walked the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain in his early 70s. The notion that masks are dangerous is beyond farcical.
