Banana leaf rolls sound like fun! We find them difficult to get in the UK :( Crinkle paper is awesome too! All the other bits are great. Like Archie's comment, we love to make our own toys for the birds. Balsa blocks to shred, finger traps, DIY toys etc etc are all so much fun for us and them!
So same for me! Tho I'm not from uk I can't find banana leaf rolls here too so I just buy banana leaves online then spray water and vinegar mixture and dry them then press it to maintain their shape then roll it up maybe u can try it too (Crinkle paper for me I just grab colored paper the cut it into strips then crumple it) We can't find any finger traps here so I have to weave them myself :( but it's not too bad...
Yeah my quaker parrot learned how to open those little loops and throw them around. I had to switch all of them out for some stronger stainless steel clips😂
I have heard horror stories about pear hooks like these as well, mostly birds somehow getting them pierced through the bottom beak and getting hung. I have since replaced them with plastic C-clips.
My birds favorite toy part was corn husk and plain brown cardboard. Sadly one day I left them outside (in their cage) unattended to take fresh air and sunshine and someone took the chance of stealing them
My parrotlet's vet thinks those rings with unscrewable part can be dangerous because they can be opened just enough to get small beak stuck and the bird can injure themselves as they struggle to get free
I think it depends on birds. If your birds don't unscrew then & you check daily should be fine. Not good if you have a bird who unscrews things! Anything can be dangerous when offered to the wrong bird.
@Flock-Talk I'm a little late on this video, so I don't know if I'll get an answer, but you mentioned about being able to shred or cut paper to make that foraging basket filler for toys. Just a general question about using paper to make toys in general... is there anything we need to avoid? I know certain inks in newspaper aren't safe, but what about things like coloured printer paper, or even buying paper shreds available in shops such as dollar stores or party supply shops? Is it generally the same kind of product as the ones sold at parrot/bird specific retailers?
Can you make a video regarding your recommendations for durable foraging toys made for small birds? By "durable", I mean toys made from unnatural material (e.g. acrylic, stainless steel, polycarbonate).
How would you recommend going about changing a bird's cage? I have one budgie and I've had her for around 2 years now and she is pretty tame and I want to upgrade her cage to this bigger flight cage but I'm not sure how to go about it. I worry that she will be scared of the new cage or miss her old one. This may be a really simple thing idk. Any tips? Love your vids ❤
They don't really care if they are the same color you can just put them in and they won't care they won't miss their cage just put them in it they don't about the cage just as long as its fun inside.
You could try putting some of her favorite toys in there and have her in there with the door open for awhile. Maybe keep her in there during the day (when she’s in the cage during the day) and then let her sleep in her old cage until she seems comfortable enough to fully switch.
Thanks for sharing name of great toy store. We don’t have one like this unique in U.S. My bird does not like planet pleasures toy so much. I have been looking for a unique, excellent quality n design toy store. Thanks
I m in shopping for a new cage for my budgie. What do you think about 1” bar space cage? Is that dangerous for a small bird? I m looking into a large cage, those are coming with 1” or 3/4” possible. What do you advise for the effective bar space please. Please advise.
Is the 1" mean 1 inch? If it is then that is dangerous they can stick their heads in it and maybe get stuck, or maybe even squeeze through and escape since it is a budgie half an inch bar spacing should be good. If u r from the US (or if your not) I recommend HQ flight cages or A&E flight cages (I like the HQ flight cages better because they have more space for your little budgie but the A&E cages are pretty good too :)
Ok. Yes it meant 1 inch bar. I m in U.S. I know A & E cage company. There are several options in flight cage, and each cage it’s bar space are different. What bar size do you recommend for budgie? I will purchase with your recommendation. He is very active, always wants to hang out with me and harassing my old chihuahua. I want to get him the best n safe large cage. Most flight case does not come with stainless. Please advise. I m so happy you are out there. My budgie Norbert is my first bird, never had a bird before. ( adopted him on Oct 2020, he is about 2 years old) Thank you so very much for your response, you have a Happy New Year!
Generally no, the adhesives holding the tube together can be harmful and the bacteria gathered on the tube from sitting in a bathroom could make a bird sick. You can look up how to fold origami tubes as an alternative! Just ensure the tutorial doesn’t use glue or tape!
I would suggest paper cording or finding an unoiled natural string such as sisal or hemp. Twine from most places has oils that aren’t very good for birds.
Please help. I have a parakeet adopted about two months ago. He is my first bird in my whole life. Now he is crazy about having vegetables, his beak area feather are literally green. Would you please advise me how to clean his beak area feather please. Thanks in advance.
Just leave them be 😊 it’s normal for birds to stain the feathers around their face, it’ll either get scratched off or come off when they bathe naturally. Worst comes to worst the feather will moult out eventually. There’s no harm in a stained feather
I prefer buying bulk toy parts instead of the toys themselves, generally they are cheaper, easier and more fun (for me and the bird)
Us too!
I will totally do that but some toys I really love like planet pleasers

Helpful, I'm going to build an aviary around the beginning of next year.

My birds love these types of toys. Have you checked out Parrotdise Perch. They have toy parts.
Do you make your birds toys sometimes ?

I thought the shirt looked the same as the one before. 🤣
Hi love your channel I would like to know where to find all your toy parts like banana leaves etc...? Thanks
If you’re in the US My Safe Bird Store sells a lot of toy parts!

Keep both in the room, put fun new toys and food in the new cage and let them wonder in themselves

Sorry I did not read your rest message. Ok I will stay with .5 inch. I will look into HQ today. Thank you so very much!

Happy new year too!
Are empty toilet paper rolls good for homemade toys too?

Can you post a video about making this paper?
Just cut colored paper or put it in a paper shredder then crumple it
Courtney can I use bells and beads (big beads so my budgie doesn't accidentally swallow it) in making diy toys? Also can I use twine as the string?
