- How should you approach a door when you see a video doorbell? This has been a hot topic lately in door to door roofing sales. Homeowners are using video doorbells and security to "screen" the door just like caller ID for phones! Sometimes they even answer through the app instead of coming to the door. So what should you be doing? Watch this video to learn a strategy that makes it feel like the camera isn't even there.

I’m 6’2 220 and man! You’re right on about people’s perception of someone at their door. The first 4 seconds is like a dance of emotional depth perception.
Great stuff
🕺
Ive been a top appointment setter for a well known solar energy company. I ring the door bell every time. I get straight to the point. I've gotten lots of appointments. I wave at every camera I see.
This is awesome I’ve always been so awkward when someone answers the ring
It is certainly weird to get used to, isn't it? Glad you liked this one! Thanks for the comment.
@@TheRoofStrategist thanks for the videos! 👊🏻
@@firemetalhead5863 It's a pleasure to serve my dude!
Saw a guy make a claim thru the ring
Heck yeah it is possible. A few of our Members have done the same thing

I got swarmed by cicadas and ran away yelling "WHAT THE HECK DUDE!!" and it was all caught on the ring. They were laughing at it LOL
Sweet video 🤘🏻
Usually, guys try to stay away from ringing them but I honestly always do cuz it seems to be a good way to introduce yourself without them feeling pushed, if they’d rather answer from the bell 🤷🏻♂️
I did have a question tho, if you wouldn’t mind!
What do you think about a company requiring it’s contractors/salesmen to maintain their own LLC, Liability Insurance, workers comp?
I’ve only worked with a couple of companies but the one I’m with now is one of the best in my area but requires that from me and I just wanted to ask what your thoughts were on it.
I was told it’s to protect the salesman and the company if anything were to happen in the field, and I’m not really sure what from.
Thanks for all the content Adam, you’re a frickin genius 🤯
Hey Jacob, thanks for taking the time to comment and sharing the feedback that made my day. Super appreciate ya.
1) If ringing the bell works for you - KEEP DOING IT! As they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
2) Regarding the LLC and liability etc. YES that is the safest path for everyone. My thoughts on it are that everyone should be set up that way if they are a 1099 rep.
Hope this helps!
@@TheRoofStrategist after talking to the higher ups, they showed me what is was about and I’m much more comfortable in my understanding of it.
Just had my first adjustment with these guys get approved for a full replacement and getting another home owner further through the process after another contractor just gave up and disappeared on her.
What you do is much appreciated 🙌🏻
Partly because of what I’ve learned from your videos and just an idea I came up with,
I think I want to make a few videos for homeowners and put a link on my business cards.
I figured if somebody doesn’t feel comfortable talking to me and tries to back off, I can leave them with a card that has more value than just my contact.
You can’t feel pressured by someone while watching a video, but I can say everything I need to or might want to at the door if they didn’t let me or didn’t have the time 🤘🏻
@@jacobantis2918 GREAT idea my dude. You'll have to keep me posted on how that goes. A few guys have reached out who are using my letters and they printed on a QR code for them for the same reason :) Great trust builder. Hope it works well for ya! Also, glad to hear things are shakin' out for ya!!
I just knock, it works great!
Today I had a pest control salesman spit his gum out at my camera. Don’t be like that guy. No soliciting signs mean we aren’t interested, no matter what, don’t ring the doorbell or knock at all.
Totally agree Adam! Been doing roofing sales for a little over a year now. You’ve been there every step of the way. Just sold my first commercial roof today!! Thanks for everything you do man 💪
CONGRATULATIONS, Alex! How freakin' awesome that you landed your first commercial roof!!! That's an experience you'll never forget :) Keep it up man. I'm honored to support your growth in this industry!
Well done!! A good way to land some commercial jobs. Especially bid build for flat roofs. Work days and nights if you can. Almost no one does for some reason. In that invironment finishing faster then everybody else holds immense volue. I've been 30,000$ higher then the most expensive bid but we're able to complete it 2 months faster then the next guy. Crews did 12 day 12 night. Took 2 months 2 weeks instead of nearly 5 months.
Ring door bells hold business cards very well.

Brilliant, and agree, always go for a friendly knock first! Question: how frequently do you work the same neighborhood/how much time between knocking it? Do you knock doors that have previously been “no”/“not interested” say once every 6 months or longer interval? Thank you for all you do and the community you’re building
I’ve just answered this question by seeing your response to a comment in a linked video, thanks :)
Hey Kevin! Glad to see you found the answer -- YES knock doors that were previously a no. The first no is not necessarily the final no :) And THANK YOU for taking the time to comment with thoughtful questions. It's an honor to serve and I'm glad to help. Be well my dude and have an awesome 4th!
I here a unique knock, and i instantly know not to answer 😂
I’ve had people get pretty aggravated about me not using the video doorbell. Maybe those particular ones didn’t activate unless the button was pushed. Idk
What do you think about that? I personally have had really great success with the video doorbells. I find people to be friendly and agreeable over those things. That’s just my personal experience. What do you think?
GREAT question. What I say - if it's working, keep doing it. There are many people who say you should knock (using a unique sounding knock) to raise curiosity and get them to answer the door. At the same time - we risk them NOT answering because of privacy concerns. They are accustomed to the doorbell and literal visibility.
Since you have proven (from your other comment) that you can sell through these things, I'd be a total moron to tell you to do it differently. So rock on and experiment so you can keep doing what works best for you.
The best is when you pop off the inspection through the camera and set a follow up appointment!
Dig it!! Sounds like you have some experience succeeding with this approach ;) Thanks for sharing this gem with everyone here!
I smile and wave. Everytime. So I'm excited to listen to what you got here.
😎💯👏
I’ve been with my company for about 2-3 weeks now. I’m getting my teeth kicked in bad haha. Seems like once they find out they don’t have a claim but still need a roof. They’re gonna push me away and find the absolute cheapest option
Hey Marcus, getting your teeth kicked in bad is a right of passage :) Embrace the learning experience and "thick skin" development. It will happen no matter what. In regards to going from a storm claim to retail -- may I bring up a new perspective? You are right about people wanting a fair price. Some people DO want the cheapest option. Most people ultimately want a fair value. Our job is to educate, explain, and showcase the value we bring compared to competitors. I would highly recommend tweaking your thinking from fearing automatic denial to a mindset that you CAN showcase the value behind a higher priced estimate. You WILL earn business this way. I hope this helps!
I get that you need knock but sometimes homeowners won’t hear your knock but at the same time I don’t want knock really hard 😅
Your channel is the only thing giving me confidence going door to door, thanks for all the videos!
💪YOU GOT THIS dude!!! And you are very welcome. Glad to support you :) Appreciate the comment!
How do would I get in contact with businesses to make a sale
Hey Logan, your best bet is to start with this playlist on selling commercial properties: ruclips.net/p/PLZ20p_mXvgkW82Lqf2NPd_Vf_HiK0Xuwn Hope this helps!
I’m 19 years old two months in now shadowing my boss and next week I’m going to go by my own to do sales, I just want to be the best but I feel so overwhelmed
Welcome to the industry and the channel Steven :) Starting at 19 is absolutely awesome. In fact, I had a 19 year old first year rep in a group I recently trained in Houston. You are getting a HUGE jumpstart on life, earning potential, and your career. Yes - it can be overwhelming at first. Remember that you'll "earn as you learn." Embrace the the challenge and the journey. Also, I recommend this Playlist to help you build even more confidence: ruclips.net/p/PLZ20p_mXvgkWMCW2Ww0a4G31pOzpZZiAu Hope this helps!

💪 Awesome Tomas! Email me with any questions. Adam (at) roofstrategist.com -- Happy to get you in there when you're ready!
Would you always always knock instead of ringing the door bell?
Generally, yes :) Especially using a unique knock.
@@TheRoofStrategist thank you
@@joseromero1400 You are very welcome!
Sooo our company has done many roof on one neighborhood and I have knock it like 5 times already I leave my information at the door but idk some homeowners won’t want to work with me and than last week I noticed a different roof company because I saw a yard sign where I left my flyer like 3 times lol I’m wondering why that homeowner decided choose another roofer lol
Thanks Adam
You bet! Glad to help :)
Well I have a completely different opinion as to how to orient yourself in relation to the door and I've had much success doing the door to door pitch but I've always noticed that standing anexaggerated distance from the door almost as to give a vibe that you are in motion that they are one door on the path to many doors and that if to give off a vibe like what you're about to say will make them just one of the lucky ones to hear your message you'd be surprised how many people will invite you closer
Thanks for sharing this man! I embrace diversity of perspective and experience. Sharing it here supports everyone. Do what works. And as I say - if it ain't broke. Don't fix it.
I sold an entire job all through the ring,
phone/email. I didn’t see this guy in person until the day of install. Lol
LOVE my job! Where else am I going to work that pays like this and get this kind of experience??
YES YES YES!!! Dude. Unreal. Great work man. And most importantly - I'm pumped to see you loving your work :) Have a great week!
I’m not in roofing but I am a door knocker. This is useful information for my sector as well.
