One is a British culture, which is HK. HK is also the smartest too, more so than China mainland. Hey Chinese is not an ethnic group!!! It is a nationality!!! Han, Mongolia, etc are ethnic groups not Chinese...
Not every country in the world can ever get like that though. A few tiny city states mostly in Europe and East Asia fulfil a very selective and exclusive nitch in the human ecosystem. We say we want all nations to develop, which is partly true, but secretly, we want most societies to stay within a particular place.
This vlog illustrates "one country, two systems". Using the UK model, why not one country (China) and two semi-autonomous city-states under the military protection of PRC? July 1, 2019
That's a really great question and sounds like a future video haha. I should have mentioned in this one that China drives on the right side of the road, the right side. :D
Most people just wouldn't bother. They usually take buses or trains to the customs checkpoint and then walk through it to the other side. Since driving from Hong Kong to China would require separate car registration plates and applying through the Police departments of two different city. But if you REALLY want to travel by car, most roads are unidirectional so that drivers could be directed to the correct lane and not have any accidents happening.

1) GDP per capita is deceiving
While the GDP per capita of Hong Kong and Macau is appealing, most wealth is controlled by the rich elites (Real estate for Hong Kong and Gambling for Macau) The mean household income for Hong Kong is only 24475.20 USD per year and Macau's is 29,064.30 USD per year. That's because both governments ran not in a free market, but in a polypoply (or in Macau's case almost a monopoly due to the Gambling industry in Macau owned almost by one person). So to say that because low tax = free market = rich is quite disingenuous to say. If anything, Hong Kong is a testament to why Free market screws things over because thanks to the government, Hong Kong has the highest housing prices in the world, higher than that of London or New York.
2) Hong Kong has the highest life expectancy

3) Housing
Oh did I mention how ridiculously expensive housing is in Hong Kong?

Thank you for bringing up those points. To address point 1, I did mention wealth inequality briefly as a big problem right now in Hong Kong, in particular. Regarding point 2, the CIA Factbook says Hong Kong is number 7. www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2102rank.html
And yes, I mentioned expensive housing in Hong Kong in the video. Thanks for watching :D
High housing prices have nothing to do with free markets, it's always about government intervention.
@@aoterou yeah it is.. govts screw everything up w rent control and restrictive licenses
@@ThamizhanDaa1 Wrong. Government intervention is how you keep housing prices low. Market forces want to push the price up. Compare Hong Kong's housing prices to Beijing and Shanghai. Direct government intervention prevented Beijing and Shanghai's from spiraling completely out of control.
@@jyashin hmm I don't know much about China's case studies.. I've gotta look into that .. but here in the USA govt intervention in housing market generally screws things up
Macau is for very rich tourists. The currency is the Macau Pataca.
Excellent video
Hi, congrats for your video, pretty interesting. Could you compare Spain and Gibraltar, since Gibraltar is a British colony enclosed in Spain? Also it''d be worth highlighting the influence Spain has on Gibraltarians regarding customs, ethnicity and even the language. Thank you so much.
Gibraltar and Ceuta!
One is a British culture, which is HK. HK is also the smartest too, more so than China mainland. Hey Chinese is not an ethnic group!!! It is a nationality!!! Han, Mongolia, etc are ethnic groups not Chinese...
Please compare:
Luxembourg vs Liechtenstein
or
Luxembourg vs Switzerland
Viva Macau! Viva Brasil! Viva Portugal!
Not every country in the world can ever get like that though. A few tiny city states mostly in Europe and East Asia fulfil a very selective and exclusive nitch in the human ecosystem. We say we want all nations to develop, which is partly true, but secretly, we want most societies to stay within a particular place.
Hello everybody, I'm Macanese :)))
鄭嘉鴻 *I am Yangzhounese :)))*
You really just made me remove my confusion of the one country; two systems, thanks
Hong Kong has a red flag and Macau has a green flag, there they are different
This vlog illustrates "one country, two systems". Using the UK model, why not one country (China) and two semi-autonomous city-states under the military protection of PRC? July 1, 2019
How would they transistion from left to right driving
That's a really great question and sounds like a future video haha. I should have mentioned in this one that China drives on the right side of the road, the right side. :D
Most people just wouldn't bother. They usually take buses or trains to the customs checkpoint and then walk through it to the other side. Since driving from Hong Kong to China would require separate car registration plates and applying through the Police departments of two different city. But if you REALLY want to travel by car, most roads are unidirectional so that drivers could be directed to the correct lane and not have any accidents happening.
4:47 As someone actually from Hong Kong, i played this part twice to know the guy is saying "youre beautiful" in cantonese. Even though his pronounciation is a bit off, still, quite impressive.
love this video! It's really detailed. I hope HK will become an independent country in the future.
I’m half Hongkongese and I know that in daily life Hong Kongers does things faster than the Macanese
I don t think that for the next Olympic Games HK will have a different team than the rest of China. That is over
You should do Sudan and Egypt. They seem to be two nations that are simutaniously very simular yet very different
I love that suggestion
@@iammrbeat thank you so much. Thats so cool to hear
New Zealand vs Australia
Even as a Hong Konger, I didn't even know we are number 1 at Economic Freedom. Good job at making the video!!
You will know it when you have Liberal Studies classes in secondary school. This is like common knowledge to every HK secondary student.
James Tsai yeah wait some years unfortunately after the mainland Chinese take over HK , the economic freedom would be long gone.
Saibal Republic
At least China has kept its promise of letting HK maintain the current economic independency for 20 yrs now, and according to the deal China made with UK, there will be another 30 yrs to go. So it's really not an issue for my generation since we are probably retired then.
Mandyy_sharing I appreciate that , Mandy. HK is and would always be my most favourite city. The thing is , China taking over is something I don't like to be honest.
proud of that? lmao
Mr. Beat can you compare the Canadian provinces?
Macau is the las vegas of asia and hong kong is the new york of asia.
so China is asia??? where is Tokyo?
