Crash Bandicoot 2 was my favorite Crash game because they introduced so many new things; this level was my FAVORITE. Also, I remember you could see this Polar Bear behemoth frozen in ice in Crash Team Racing.
I remember the first time I entered this stage, I saw it is a backward stage and I was thinking: "Oh well... Another Boulder Stage" and when I saw that bear I was like "HOLY SHIT WTF IS THAT? O_O"
I love these classic PS1 games. They are fun in their own simple and original way. Today games are all about graphics, epic gameplay and they miss the concept of 'boss battles'. Also, thumbs up to you Garland, your great.
When you were cutting it really fine and legged it into the tunnels where you could have a quick break, Crash would sometimes dive in too - that was a great touch too.
Yeah, that's pretty dumb, but I can live without them ;) The speed run is going slowly. I don't really have a lot of time to play these days (the videos I've uploaded recently were recorded last week), and I tend to lose my patience quickly when I do play. But don't worry, I'll get it done sooner or later.
I just wonder about it because in my game you don't lose your mask in the begining of the chase but if the bear hits you, you just lose your mask and die immediately
It might be one of the extra life boxes at 1:55. There are two boxes there, so make sure you get both. Other than that, I can't think of any easily missable boxes.
This level frustrated me not because I got killed by the bear frequently, but I had hard time finding the hidden boxes, until I tried to jump on the broken bridge.
It's probably the two boxes he hits at 1:56 ... also, a secret of the game is that if you collect those two lives, you can die and go back and collect them again ... easy way to build up some extra lives
Look at 1:56. You see that area thats just sitting mid air? There are two boxes up higher. Just jump and get them. These two boxes may have been the ones you've been missing. These can be easily overlooked because you can't see them at first.
You probably missed them in that secret level. Right after the checkpoint in the hidden area, there are 2 1-up crates just barely out of sight but can be reached when you duck then jump.
Well you see, everytime the chase starts the tiki mask will disappear, because you need to give the bear a chance, and if the tiki mask was still there, there bear would be infront of you. And that would just be no fun at all.
I remember being potty trained and shitting while playing this game, we didn't have a memory card so we had to restart every time, awww the good old days :)

I discover the secret level in that level because i fell worried if polar fall down too, i just go to look if he has fine, when i see him, i go near to him because i want to pat him (R1 or circle), and o.o, i found it...
@Kongenator I know that secret to Totally Bear I think. I'm Talking about Pause at when crash hops off polar. HE DISAPPEARED 1 second after you jumped EX : Pause At 4:09 There Is No Polar where He Hopped offf at.
in the secret after you get the checkpoint, near the aku aku mask jump to other grass platform and jump high to get to two life boxes on the top. good luck
When I was a child i never played this crash bandicoot,i only played CRASH BANDICOOT 3 for ps1 and it is the best one,i have played it again and i have completed it 104% and i love it,but my favourite one is CRASH BANDICOOT THE WARTH OF CORTEX for PS2,the last time i played it,i completed it 106%,in this two games i collected all crystals,all gems(including the coulored ones) and all relics,these are the best games of the history, YOU'RE GREAT CRASH BANDICOOT,THE BIGGEST HERO OF ALL.

When i first saw the big Polar Bear it haunted my dreams when i was young.
This, in my opinion, was the greatest Crash Bandicoot game and quite possibly one of the greatest video games of all time.
The first time I played this level years ago I was thinking "Bah, another rock running level".

Road to Ruin did not have to be entered through the secret warp room in order to get 100% completion.
The bear-riding sequence is so much more nerve-racking from that angle.

Some levels have an alternate entrance that can only be accessed from the 6th warp room.

if you have a mask and get chased by something it automaticlally goes away this does not happen in Crash Bandicoot:Warped and later
