    I was in the Canadian military when this report was made. Despite all the crap the CBC dug up, we still are the best trained and do more with the equipment we've got. Every time we got on training missions with our NATO Allies we out shine them all. Always have, always will.

      It's not like father like son, the Defense Minister is retired Lt. Col Harjit Sajjan, who was wounded in both Bosnia and Afghanistan, he's also a Sikh who was an advisor to the Americans in Afghanistan. They passed over a retired Lt. General who a Commander in Afghanistan. The Veterans Affairs Minister is a Paraplegic, he was shot in a drive by when he was a teen. So we'll just have to wait and see, but more than likely the CF-18 are coming home, but more JTF3 members will go over to train the Kurdish forces.

      I was in Mr. Trudeau's navy in the mid 1970s. Our ships were completely unable to defend ourselves from supersonic aircraft or any kind of missile attack decades into the widespread deployment of both. I think that Pierre's idea was that if we didn't have a military, there would be no more wars. Maybe his son believes that too.

Ordinary men expected to do extrordinary jobs.Some of us pulled duty on the Iran/Iraq border when they were fighting.We kept the UN informed on the war as it happend. Others of us served in the Golan Heights keeping Israel and Syria apart in our M109's. We did our job well.

      @nameless_no_name 8 лет назад +8

      Fred
      Leo2 and Abrams are of the same vintage and are considered the most formidable tanks in the world.
      If one is calling Leo 2 old, than they might as well call most of the tanks from the Western world old: Leclerc, Chieftan 2, Abrams etc as they are tanks contemporary to Leo 2.
      Also, there is no Leo 3 yet
      Similar to the tank-logic re design, one could say the M4 is old because the design and action is based upon a 1950s systems from Stoner. The current M4 differs from the M-16, from 50 years ago, in minor superficial ways only. I doubt many would consider the M4 old (or obsolete?) because of the original design.
      When the weapon design becomes noncompetitive because it can no longer harness upgrades than it's usefulness and practicality are obsolete and "old". Leo 2 is the back-bone used by many modern armies and has many modern upgrades-"old" seems misplaced at this point re Leo 2

British SAS and Marines,Israel commando's, American SEAL's and Green Beret's,German GSG9 and many others. I have a British Marine shoudler patch and an 22 SAS cap badge.     Wow. It’s 2024 and the CAF is still underfunded and undermanned. The similarities are still the same;
    1. The current government thinks it’s helping out and it isn’t.
    2. The opposition party thinks it can do better and it never does.
    3. Only retired senior officers will speak out against what is bad and what needs to improve the CAF, but they don’t do it while they are in.
    If this news clip is around in 10 years I will predict that it will be the same, no matter who is in charge.
    Truly a sad situation.

      France??? may have been something in Napoleon's day but wtf- WW1 they were fighting 19th century style, central command orders dispatched by runners, not even bright enough to use telephones. They had their butts saved by Britain, the Commonwealth nations & some help at the end by the US. They guaranteed WW2 by their insane demands on Germany at Versailles. When WW2 broke out they sat on the Maginot with their thumbs up their collective arses when Poland was attacked. They could've kicked Hitler's ass if they'd had some balls, crawled out of their WW1 holes & attacked them immediately with overwhelming superior numbers. It took them a little more than a month to get decimated when the shit hit the fan & capitulated ASAFP courtesy of pro fascist 5th column govt/military leaders as soon as Paris fell (without a fight). Then they took it up the butt as Vichy collaborators with the Nazi's, going so far as fighting against the Allies in North Africa while opposing their own Free French forces. I won't even discuss their Navy. Vietnam, they briefly let occupying Japanese soldiers run the country after WW2 till they could get organized take over & get their butts kicked yet again. Not to forget the shit storm of Algeria & their death squads, even on home turf. BTW, Israel says thanks France for all the help developing their nuclear weapons. How about the Libya debacle when they pushed hard to overthrow Gaddafi for gold/oil & started the fight a tad early without informing their partners in crime, (w/Canada included as a guilty party). That sure freed up a lot of weapons & terrorists to fuel the fire in Syria (another ex-French colony). Best ally??? Maybe if France had French Canadian soldiers running the show they might be trustworthy & more competent but I wouldn't depend nor trust France for anything military.

    In my heart of hearts we should just get the Euro fighter for now. One option for Canada would be too pool money and resources with the UK,Australia and New Zealand on a single military budget for all 4 of our countries. We would have the 3rd largest military on earth!

New mid sized support trucks recieved in the last years. TAPVs replacing the G-Wagens(which are in use in many countries like australia, germany) New APCs to replace the LAVs(up to date)
    Air Force(from my view) is in decent standing. 1st batch of F35 is to be delivered to Canada.

    Very true but we went into many combat situations from 64-83. We often came under enemy fire that was using more modern wepons. If it hadn't been for our superior training we would have died.Due to our lack of modern tech at the start of the Afghan conflict.We couldn't always communicate with the American forces. Which resulted in 6 Canadian soldiers being killed by friendly fire. Trudeau was the worst on us for military funding.

    true, but still I don't think we should cut one to make the other better, we should be able to find a balance, I personally think our military deserves to have a little more money pumped into it, but from what ive seen and heard the government is already doing that, you can't forget about what makes Canada...well Canada, our country takes care of its people, and thats the most important thing.

    I was a soldier for short time, a rifleman and a gunner at two different times. I saw officers return from the field at Petawawa with swastikas grease penciled on their Iltis headlights and jungle boots. This FOO and his party were known in the reg't as the "Aryan OP". Doing weapons maintenance after the exercise I'd hear whermacht marching music blaring from the ghetto blaster. A master bombadier just back from Germany invited me to join his "aryan club". Yes, I'm so proud of our military.

    We got a real deal when we sold them to the Turks for $1 apiece. They flew them for a while but the truth is they used them all for target practice for their newer aircraft.

    Assault rifles are still fired single shot during attacks. Though they have auto-fire capability, they are better to fire in repetition/semi-auto than in full auto in many more situations than the opposite. The reporter was completely wrong and way out to lunch at 5:27-5:37. FN's are superior to C7's in many ways(more powerful/more accurate/greater range). But C7s are still the better choice for various reasons, just not the reasons highlighted by this reporter.

    It's not much different with Harper. Some examples: the crazy multibillion F-35 "Widowmaker 2.0" program, the 4 junk submarines (they keep blaming the Liberals for having acquired them a looooong time ago, instead of buying new decent submarines), the hyper-expensive, super-delayed and failed Cyclone helicopters, the never built and overpriced super-delayed new frigates, icebrakers, etc, etc... In 8 years he has done almost nothing for the forces. In addition to that this government seems to consider our soldiers disposable once they are not useful as cannon folder anymore. Harper is all talk and no walk.

    • @pauljohn5272
      @pauljohn5272 10 лет назад +1

      Exactly! Harper sais he loves the military and makes these promises. Thing is to the average person, It seems like he is actually doing allot for the military when behind the covers its all a ploy and false promises. Our defence budget keeps getting slashed over and over, that why im voting liberal next election. Our military will NEVER get to this state again, the public wont allow it. Thing is Justin Trudeau is not his father, and I belive he woud do a better job.

    • @cf80to01
      @cf80to01 10 лет назад +3

      Paul John Vote how ever you wish, BUT if you expect a change for the better for the military.....it will not happen. The Liberals will decimate the military. That is what they have always done. The Conservatives will spend the least amount of money they can to retain a voice in NATO, but they will spend some. Justin Trudeau is a true Liberal, he hates the military and all it stands for. If you really care about the military, there is no right answer, only the least wrong answer.

    • @soulscanner66
      @soulscanner66 9 лет назад +2

      CF80TO01 You are so wrong.
      The Conservatives first loyalty is to the U.S. Pentagon, and they will send Canadian soldiers to fight U.S. and British wars in Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and maybe even Iran. Under the Conservatives, Canadian soldiers will be used as cannon fodder to sustain George Bush's foolish, beligerent wars in the Middle East, where they be used to prop up corrupt, barbaric militias and governments; Canadian soldiers will be used to train local people how to better kill and slaughter each other in these failed states.
      When the demoralized and defeated soldiers return, they will be denied pensions and treatment for their traumas and treated like dirt as the Conservatives recruit more cannon fodder for U.S. wars.
      It's time to examine where our political leaders did right by our soldiers in assigning them clear objectives: is it in Liberal peacekeeping assignment in the Suez crisis, in Cyprus in the 1970's, and in Kosovo and Bosnia in the 1990's? Is it in Afghanistan in the 2000's? Is it training barbaric militias to better slaughter each other In Iraq and Syria?
      I think the answer is clear. Canadians are way better peacekeepers than conquering armies and fighting nasty civil wars in Syria and Iraq. Allowing the Conservatives to lead Canada blindly into wars that cannot be won is the worst thing ever for the Canadian military.

      Guy Souriandt There is one problem with your comment.....peacekeeping requires well equipped and well trained war fighters. It isn't enough to simply say Canadian soldiers should only peace keep.....to do it effectively they must be trained and equipped to fight. Soldiers who are not equipped and trained properly will die.

    same shit brah, C1/C2 is just like saying Canadian model 1, Canadian model 2, so its the same gun..just the Canadian model...and those guns might have been alright at the time, considering what the states was using, but I'd say our newer weapons are better, otherwise we'd still be using the older weapons system.

    Cold war is over yes but we still have a commitment to NATO. Also this spending creates thousands of jobs for Canadians. What about the dreams of young Canadians such as myself to be involved in something greater than struggling to pay bills. Military is not only needed for war but peace. The world is simply not yet at a point in which we no longer need armies. Not to mention military spending promotes scientific progress.

    Canadian military budget should be at minimum 2% of GDP as what the NATO treaty states when it was signed. We have dropped to 1% in the 90's.. fucking pathetic..
    In the end it comes down to do we keep to our NATO agreement, a small airfield some of which are already existing with 10 Liaison troops a few cargo containers with ammunition, medical supplies etc. Is a small cost for what it brings. 7 small bases around the world is a small price compared to the symbolism and use of it if necessary.
