Jesus mate at 17? What a dream
I’d love to own a triple carbed 270z with a walnut wood shifter and a gated shifter and alcontara on the dash, and maybe a different tachometer and everything maybe from a Honda. (Just something very visible and easy to see that’s simple and is neutral, so it blends in well)

Larry, so cool to watch your video on the Vintage Z Car Restoration Program! It brings back so many happy memories of working on the VZ program with Pierre at Pierre Z in 1997. Randy you are a very blessed man. I can recall going to Pierre Z Service Center to discuss getting my Gold/White 77 280Z coupe restored (I have to agree with you Randy on the White interior). I was given Pierre’s business card by a fellow Group-Z club member and placed it on my refrigerator saving it for a “Happy Someday When” where it stayed for a couple of years. Then the day finally came, I drove to Pierre’s shop on Crenshaw Blvd in Hawthorn Ca. just south of the airport where Jack Northrop use to work, at little company designing and building aircraft during WWII. Lightening struck twice within less than a quarter mile. I can remember pushing the cars to and from the assembly buildings that Pierre had and hearing rivet guns from the factory blasting away. I was so excited while I walking and talking with Pierre about my Z car between those buildings that day and then I realized that this was the Shop that Nissan was using for the VZ Program that we all heard and read about as we stood next to a stack of shipping crates of new 240 instrument panels. Hey, I just had to ask Pierre if he needed help, being a licensed A&P Mechanic, and yes a total Datsun Dork hehe 🙃 It was the time of my life. The Rick Cole car that is pictured in Randy’s scrapbook is next to my first VZ shell. Randy is spot on about the undercoating. I was tasked with masking and shooting the undercarriage coating of the Rick Cole car the morning it had just came back from the body shop the second time with a $8,000 paint job, nothing like the sparse coatings that the Dealerships did for the additional charge of $$?. Luckily , I acquired the Pierre Z body dolly it’s on from Datsun Alley in Long Beach and used it for my own personal restoration of my 76. Unfortunately, the dolly went to Germany when I was forced to abruptly put up a 100% rust free 76 Coupe shell for adoption during my move to Seattle in 2006. Fortunately though, it went to a really good new owner/fabricator and racer at VA Motorsports Engineering a first rate prep house in Sint Oedenrode, where it was reworked into a Group 4 FIA rolling Chassis and sold for 75,000 Euros.
During the VZ Program I was moonlighting between Restoring Z’s by day at Pierre’s and building DC-9’s (aka…Boeing 717-200’s) commercial airliners by night in the old McDonnell Douglas factory in Long Beach. I made the necessary sacrifices to work 14-16 hours a day just so that I could live the dream of a lifetime. Being apart of the factory restoration program. The other thing I’ll forever be grateful for is when the entire shop went up Willow Springs on a Saturday where Pierre showed me the race line around the “Street’s of Willow” and how the car is meant to be driven, at speed, @ 5400 RPM going up the hill into turn 1. Thanks Pierre 🙏 for the opportunity of a lifetime and for sharing the knowledge from your days at BSR.
A Big shout out to Randy for showing us all the history and the artifacts of the VZ Program. Randy, I’d love to see your collection sometime and then sit down and share some Z stories?
    Thanks again!
    Cheers,
    Kevin Taylor

28:11 - The US got low VIN #'s because they had their own VIN # prefix for their market. HLS30. In Japan they were just S30 or PS30 in Australia/UK/NZ they were HS30 and each respective prefix had its own range of VIN #s. For example I own HS30 00051 and there is a North American HLS30 00051 car. Different cars for different markets, both #51 of their own respective VIN series.

The sticker was $27k; I’m absolutely kicking myself I didn’t buy it, however, the sales guy was a condescending tool, as I knew the MSRP was $25k, and he wanted to play games. That was a total turn-off. What I did instead is I tracked down my 75 280z that I sold in 1993, had Bill Reagan do a frame-on restoration. Just had a resto-mod done on it, so I’m happy that I’m the 2nd and 5th owner of my Z.

Larry JUST KILLING IT !!! With Datsun Content!!
    It was " TIMING"
Great concept, very hard to implement because Nissan had no clue and wasn't prepared , to dig deep with their resources to launch the project.
Why do I say that. Because the British did it thoroughly correct with HERITAGE Parts
You could get many British Sports cars from the Mini, to MGB, to TR6. They reproduced entire body shells and all the components to remanufacture their cars.
This is how Nissan should have had approached it.
Remake body shells and all panels, remanufacture all parts.
Instead , they cleaned out Good solid cars and OEM new old stock for 34 ish cars.
And reproduced nothing to supply existing Z cars.
TIMING and Nissan not interested in the success of the hand that feeds it.
As a long time and current Z owner. Larry keep the Z content coming ( and 2.0 is finished , you have the right, to talk about ,your Z car. None of us Z guys MIND!
