Dr. Nicholas Tullo, a heart rhythm specialist, presents this lesson for the ECG Academy. This instructional video completes the discussion of measuring intervals on an ECG. It also provides additional practice tracings. For basic, intermediate, and advanced video instruction on interpreting ECGs, visit www.ecgacademy.com/

@PROTON838 -- That's true in most ECG machines, but not all. The height of the calibration pulse must be 1cm (10mm) at the standard gain setting because the calibration circuitry puts out a 1mV pulse. However, the duration depends on the manufacturer. The ECG machine we used is made by Schiller America. The pulse is clearly shorter than 0.2s (as you astutely noticed), but unequivocally printed at the bottom of the tracing is the paper speed of 25 mm/s.
Yes, I did some research and found that many manufacturers do that, I just hadn't come across with any of those. Keep up with the good work!
I eventually reached the 21st video, i watched almost all the videos and it was helpfull. thank you.
@PROTON838 -- Thank you very much.
Hi Doc! Sorry, How did you get 600 bpm(0.6 sec) instead of 100 bpm? it only composed 3 large boxes.May you explain it slowly! Thanks:)
ecg doc ,sorry this is helpful but how did u get the 660ms for heart rate also the QTs please explain carefully and slowly for me???
You said that the normal QRS should be anywhere from 80-120 milliseconds. My EKG book says that the normal QRS is 0.04-0.12seconds (40 - 120ms).
Assalamu alaikum, Dr.
Can't tell you how helpful these videos are!!
I just have a question, in calculating the QTc .. why we converted RR interval into seconds instead of milliseconds, although QT still in milliseconds?!
Again, Thank you for these GREAT videos :)
isn't the reference pulse calibrated to last 0.2 sec?
Unfortunately, second ecg is taken using double speed so your measurements are not correct...
@PROTON838 -- No, that's not true. I scanned the ECG myself. At any other speed the intervals would be non-physiologic.
Hello sir how to contact with u can u give me ur email I want u check my EKG plz sir
