I grew up there. The first few minutes were the neighborhood I grew up in. It wasn't always this way. It was a great place to grow up in. Great town and people. So sad that the East Side neighborhood has become like this.
Cumberland definitely has some blighted areas. Poverty, lack of jobs, and a higher than average drug problem will do that. It’s sad to see abandoned homes left to rot and rental properties with negligent and absentee landlords. Even if folks mowed and cleaned up after themselves it would make a difference! There are beautiful areas of Cumberland as well. Check out west side (Washington street) and downtown (once construction is done). There are dozens of examples of beautiful Queen Anne architecture and American foursquares. A few Italianate revival and sears catalog homes as well.
I agree.I live in Cumberland on Washington st by the court house.originally from the Wasington D.C metro area.i honesty think it's like paradise here, the people are friendly, the town is old buy looked at philly, baltimore,D.C ect....any major city on the east coast has parts that look wayyy worse then Cumberland. The crime rate is like 0%. When I say 0% I meen no murder, stabbings or random gang shootings,i dont think petty thefts count as crime in a major city lol.if Baltimore had the same crime rate as Cumberland it would be rated the safest city in America if not the world.Lack of jobs yeah I can see why some could complain but then again you can own a 3-4br house for under or just around 100k, with a 30y mortgage 350$ a month, you can get a job at the dollar store and pay your morwith money left over.i was paying 2,300 a month for a old apartment in a drug infested naborhood with random shooting that happen VERY often.Cumberland is only bad to people that grew up with a silver spoon, yes UT looks like the ghetto in many areas but that's just appearance, when I walk at night I don't worred about getting murderd because i was accidentally wearing rival gang colors.
Gotta agree with you, downtown is very historic and nice to see. But the areas of the city that ARE bad/poor definitely look it, and that’s what I document.
I live close to forthill high school and it is a great area. There's a lot of brick homes That are nicely maintained for curb appeal. There is a few that need maintenance But not a whole lot
.My first apartment was in the blue building on the first floor. The one nearest to the end. The neighborhood was nice then. There was a store a couple of steps away from my back door. There was also a quiet neighborhood bar.
To be fair, I recently lost a car in a hit-and-run incident less than a year after moving to this area. That was the second time it happened. I previously lived in Leonardtown, Maryland, and that was the first time it happened. Both of them somehow managed to get away. Not sure if this is relevant, but both locations were/are right next door to a bar. EDIT: And I just heard police sirens passing by my house as I was typing this
I wish Josh Kelty was an advocate against domestic violence rather than an advocate of domestic violence. I wish he would do his job rather than abuse his position to get men off!

I grew up in Cumberland nobody is gonna shoot you lol but that burgundy house across the highway from the private property was my great grandfather house
Haha I live in California this is nothing 😅 I really liked Cumberland the times I’ve visited. Cool history No trash just weeds some old buildings and houses. but I’d take that any day over the trash and crime in my hood

I’m sure it hurts seeing the change. It’s always a shame when places fall.
Did you know John Kelley on Waverly? He was my boyfriend from 2015-2019. He died on 12/12/19. RIP ❤
@@LoveChild71 Yes, I knew Johnny and Randy and their mother. Good family.
@@mattcombs8778 OMG! Johnny!!!! Yep, you knew him! We were Bonnie and Johnny ❤️

Cumberland is pretty safe. One of the safest places in Maryland. Even Westminster has more crime

i lived on waverly terr in that brown house it wasnt brown when i lived there it was blue
0:15 still was a little nice in the early 1990s. Heard it went down the hill in the early 2000s.
4:28 Maryland doesn’t even permit people to live in their RV and Travel trailer on a permanent basis
Very cool!
These old historic homes are beautiful just needs some TLC not bad area just lack of jobs high drug use here

Eu sempre assisti o video da cidade na camera ao vivo, sou brasileiro e acho essa cidade linda, apesar de um pouco abandonada em alguns lugares.

Embarrassing and shameful ! Why would any new business want to come here? We moved back after being gone for 30 years and I regret it so much.
Yeah, not exactly the best place for a fresh start 🤣
Hey bro. Send me some random down houses in western md.
What do u mean?
My dad was from Barton Maryland I took the train from Ohio to Cumberland as a child great memories .
Westside was always the best side PATTERSON AVE!!
Queen city creamery is the best! Just don't go to la:vale mcdonalds, they ruin every order and burn every food item!
Can you get an ice cream cone at that McDonalds or is their machine broken like they are everywhere?
Idk. Probably? They ruin everything I order.
Baker Street
I lived there 50 years ago and none of the houses were vacant.

What is your hood? I’d love to know if worth visiting.
That ain’t no real hood
Why’s that?
