      Really ????
      do you repair or run mining equipment ??
      Cat is failing right now letting every customer down with their poor part management
      As in they don’t have any parts !!!

      Cat are worse than they were in the nineties technology great 👍
      All technology has done to cat gear is save money on fuel
      But your savings are spent on sensors that keep failing 😂
      And lost time waiting for parts to turn up from to timbucktwo

    Ironic, the coal is used to produce electricity to power the machines that mine the coal that produce the electricity that powers the machines that mines the coal............

    "Carbon, carbon, carbon." Good grief, CO2 is at 4ppm in our atmosphere and is the building block for life as we know it, so don't vilify "carbon". That said, there are many advantages to an electric shovel as you've stated. But tell me, where do you get the electricity from? Diesel generators, hydroelectric, electric fairies and sprites? This electricity doesn't just magically appear, so there are pros and cons to any system.

      The mine is connected to the grid, the electricity in Ontario is a mix of nuclear, hydro, gas. Probably much cheaper that running on diesel

      running a diesel generator powering electric motors is still more efficient than mechanical drive, thats why all the biggest machines have always used it
      its even more efficient the bigger that generator is, if youre running power from an onsite coal plant or large diesel generator, thats even less fuel and emissions
      carbon is four HUNDRED ppm in the atmosphere, not 4ppm. thats nearly twice what the earth can naturally cycle, and so much that its actually harming plants(yes plants can have TOO MUCH carbon)

    electric only makes sense when its tethered

    • @vincentgrinn2665
      @vincentgrinn2665 Месяц назад

      pretty much yeah, these shovels dont move very much, so they can easily be tethered
      haul trucks? bit trickier since they need to move a lot, diesel electric(like every haul truck except cat, all diesel trains, etc) works great, connecting that to overhead wires on parts of the haul route is incredibly effective(which is kinda like a tether?)
      and if you have enough overhead wires, you can basically just replace the 30+ ton engine in the haul truck with a battery and youre even better off
