So true. I work with several young military people and one day I was talking about the new movie coming out about the WW2 battle of Dunkirk. They were just totally unaware of that battle. I was floored! Such an important moment in history and yet they had no knowledge of it. So sad that generation saved us from nazi rule. And yet it's forgotten.
Every once in a while I'll run into a guy wearing a WW2 hat and I always try to talk to them. In every case they have been the most wonderful people and I leave them wanting to spend more time with them. I pray for a rejuvenation of that spirit into our current generations.
Bill Murray said in the movie what about Bob. On why some people get divorced their are 2 types of people in this world. Those that like Neil Diamond and those that don't. I think that is kinda brilliant!!!!
Those that tend to either forgot 'or' fail to learn the facts of history are doomed to repeat it. And right now it would be socialism, those who do not learn from it's long history of failure and mass suffering are doomed to repeat it by embracing socialism.
Yikes! The American school system, it so sad. I guess if the parents don't know, why would they care if the kids know or not. My son couldn't remember the year so I made him look it up.
I agree with your sentiment but not your measurement. I don't think rote-learning years, names etc is as important as knowing the why. I think knowing why we declared independence and why we fought in WWII is more important than the specifics of the exact year, name of the General, etc. I also think that whatever "specialty" a person is in, they would have a lot of head knowledge that they think "others" should know, but they don't. Just my opinion meant with much respect though to your channel.

No offense taken. That's what the 1st amendment guarantees, the ability to freely give our thoughts and opinions.
I got to try that here in Arkansas
