Good morning Mr. Joey! I would like to ask you for the sheet music of your "Louisiana" solo, very interesting and beautiful. I would like to do some project in Ukraine with the involvement of colleagues from America. Or at least show the best of your creativity. Ukraine
Hi Guys, Jerry (the guitar player) here. Joe IS and amazing player and musician. I do not know if Joe has any of the piece available. We did record it on a Titan Hot Seven CD, of course the arrangement floats around anytime it gets played as a jazz piece. It is a super tune that almost plays itself, though with a twist or two. Try to check out "Louisiana" by other artists, good luck.
Well that was lovely 👏 I’d like to start playing again, haven’t touched a tuba in over a decade. But I just don’t have a few thousand dollars to spend on one 😢
My instructor would not let me use a tuba in my highschool jazz band, even though I was a very proficient player for my age, and tried forcing me to learn trombone after never having picked one up. I was pretty ticked off about it, so I ended up dropping band half way through highschool and stopped playing the tuba because I was bored with classical band class... I feel robbed.
Wow this is amazing! I love the fact you are SUPER expressive and light with a full tone!!!! I play tuba too and I hope i can do something like this one day!
Hi and thanks for the kind words. That is a 1939 Epiphone Blackstone! It is a real "work horse" with a lot of punch and warmth that the Epiphones have.
WOW. AMAZING. FANTASTIC. EXCELLENT. BRILLANT. That is one of the most beautiful and amazing things I have EVER seen done on tuba. But as a Tuba player myself, I've always wondered if it was possible to play some true jazz on Tuba. Now seeing this piece for the first time I realize its possible. Thank you for posting this. Now its time to see if I can find this "Louisiana" piece you speak of online. Excellent job. I hope I can have half the tone you do one day.
You really started your own horn line. I will definitely look into when I become a band director. It's just kind of hard for a saxophone player to invest in any high quality brass instrument.
Very nice tuba solo. This is how tuba sounds and should sound with nice guitar accompaniment. I tried to click the link for the free transcription of this solo, but it doesn't work anymore. maybe it did when you posted this. Could you please have a look at it!
He'll practice on a crowded subway, sitting right next to you. Just makes ya' wanna' get up and start a toe-tapping shindig. Hot damn, ya'll! Honey, bring me a beer. There's a tuba playing!
Is it still possible to get the transcription? i tried the link it doesnt work and ill be auditioning for a Bachelor slot in UNI for Jazz and Popular music and id really like to play this piece, amungst playing 148th street blues from john sess
eiwallin You asked 8 years ago but I will answer it anyway. On small tuba it's easy to lip notes that are generally out of tune to be in tune. He is not having so long notes at the 1&3 notes so the intonation is not so noticeable. The use of only 1,2&3 valve is also very smooth because it is operating on only one hand. 4th valve tubing is generally a bit bigger so the sound is a bit different and not always so smooth difference in sound. It also looks like a Besson tuba and Besson tubas have in my experience the easiest intonation of all tubas, it almost plays by itself. The 1&3 and 1,2&3 notes are also played softly so the intonation goes down and that makes the normally sharp notes in tune.
the notes are so smooth because he using a silver tuba. silver gives off a smooth softer tone on the other hand brass gives off a sharp cutting edge sound.
i still think tuba only plays german folk music bass line (C G C G C G C G A B C) this guy doesnt exist, it is not possible. someone must have played that on a trombone in the backstage. it is too beautiful for a tuba! ok, it was a joke! tuba is awesome
Hi guys! That link to the music has been dead for a long time. If you want it, just email me at joemurphy@me.com Thanks for all your support!

I'm sorry. This was just for this video taping. It was never recorded. Thanks for asking!
Sounds awesome.
But why isnt he using the 4th valve? Atlest to me it seems as he is using 1 and 3 instead of 4.

what kind of tuba are you using? Eb?
Так мне кажется должна звучать туба
Wow, how does e get the notes to sound so "smooth"? Mine always sound "rough", or "shaky". Wow describing noise is hard haha.
i still think tuba only plays german folk music bass line (C G C G C G C G A B C)
