Waif, Cursed Bunny and I DNFed 17 books this year - some were soft DNFs but most were permanent DNFs and I have no regrets. Many I could tell within the first chapter or even less if the books weren’t for me - school for good mothers stands out to me as one of the worst from my DNF pile it was so spoonfed of what the point of the book was and I couldn’t stand it.
Omg 2.96 is suuccchh a low rating on goodreads 😱 I LOVED your rant on Stephen King and his unnecessarily long books 😂😂 The handyman method was such a weird book!! Like what was the point lol
This whole video was so funny! Honestly a great way to start the day. Your entire rant about Comfort Me With Apples cracked me up. The Fireman is classed as horror?? I would call it a thriller at the most extreme. I think there is a serious problem with thrillers being classified as horror which is just bound to lead to disappointment. Can’t wait to hear what your top books of the year are.
Thank you Ally!!! it's so good to see you (i need to catch up on your videos!) Yeah the fireman is a "horror" book lmao, the LIES !!! thank you so much and my top books video will be coming up soon!!
Same I always feel bad about talking junk about books when I have not written one myself 😅 4:20 oop I'm scared Tea I read Girl in Red by Christina Henry and liked it! Alice has been on my physical TBR for 84 years 🤦♀ 9:38 oh noooo for real? That is disappointing 18:44 HEARD! I have not been sleeping. Thank you for the tip 🙏 Not a good year for You're Not Supposed to Die Tonight 🤣😅. Also I am sorry the same thing happened to me with House of Leaves receiving 2 copies of the book 💀 Mister Magic 😒😡
Yeah! My best books of 2023 will be longer for sure haha I miiiight check girl in red but i do really hate re-tellings so :\ wait u got TWO COPIES of House of Leaves???? crazy and im jealous
Totally get not remembering the plot of books you hated. I feel like sometimes my brain just purges those from my mind. 🤣 Also, I'm currently reading Nestlings and OMG!!!!! I'm freaking loving it! Sad to see Lapvona on this list. I really enjoyed Death in her Hands. I liked the spiraling of the book. I did not enjoy the ending of The Girl with All the Gifts. I really have trouble remembering the plot of Mister Magic. "Maybe I should stop reading thrillers?" This thought goes through my head every time I pick one up. YES!!! DNFing is amazing. It has improved my reading so much!
Omg danni i love that u are loving nestlings !!!! And yeah i just think im not a good match for Ottesa's books🤣 Thrillers when they are good i love em but when they bad they are so baaaaad Ill come to you my DNF queen in 2024 for some tips🤣
@@thepumpkinfiles I gave Nestlings 5 stars! I enjoyed Mary just slightly more but both were so good!!! And yes! I can totally be your DNF accountability buddy in the new year. 🤣
"To Kill a Kingdom", or in your case, "To Kill My Love for Fantasy for the Rest of the Year". 10:29 - This was such a tricky book to review because I KNEW this would be a turnoff for a lot of readers, but then this whole idea felt like the book's twist. 😅 18:36 - I'll keep this in mind. 😂 I have yet to hear good things about "You're Not Supposed to Die Tonight".
Hahaha omg you are so on point with to kill a kingdom🤣 And yeah i defo would not have read comfort me with apples if i had known (evn tho i understand it is the plot twist) And nothing good to say about youre not supposed to die tonight besides it has a beautiful cover and it reads very easily
LOL even tho I loved To Kill a Kingdom, your review had me cracking up 😂I'm picking up Comfort Me with Apples for Winterween and I'm so intrigued to see how I feel on it
Ugh I really hate obvious retellings like Alice! I’ve loved some books like Juniper & Thorn and The Bear & The Nightingale that took inspiration from obscure folklore but spun them in different directions. I found out that The Pineapple Street author is an agent for big authors or something, so it makes sense that her book got a big push. Mister Magic and Comfort Me With Apples…I will never stop saying that authors shouldn’t surprise readers with religion. Lone Women was just mansplaining! Just a bunch of stuff about race and gender that intelligent readers already know. Yes, try DNFing! We’re in the middle of getting all the books written during covid lockdown so a lot of it is lackluster and poorly edited Speaking of editing, beautiful video!!!! Totally worth the three hours of work!!!! 💜🌺💀💀💀💀🌺💜💜💜
ahaha i had not seen ur 2nd comment on the edited video and it just made me laugh a lot. The masterfully edited (and very short video) is coming out this thursday and it's all about re-organising my book shelves because they were a mess. My best of video is in the editing process and it will also be long, but the video will also be long😂
Yup obvious re-tellings are the bane of my existence LOL IT MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE to know that about the pineapple street author omg and thank you for saying that about lone women!! i coudnt pin point why i didnt vibe with it but i think that's totally it!!! 2024 will be the year i finally DNF😂
30% of what you read being 1 or 2 stars must be really disappointing. No doubt you expected all of these these books to be good or else you wouldn't have read them. Thankfully, few of these are on my 'maybe' list although I had Lost Audio from your found footage deep dive video tbr. I might have to remove it. DNFing might have helped but there's always the feeling that the book might improve. I find it easy to DNF library books I'm not enjoying, but anything I've bought gets read to the bitter end. My least favourites this year are Everyone Here is Lying (implausible plot and characters), The Christmas Murder Game (too few clues for the reader to figure out and hard to believe the characters are real) and The Ravenmaster's Revenge (simplistic and predictable). I hope next year works out much better for you.
When you put it that way it sure sounds like a lot but I'd rather see it as: 70% of the books that I read I REALLY ENJOYED! Yeah 30% is a lot but tbh I don't mind and it's the thing with reading, some stuff works, some doesn't and as you said, I always have hope the book will get better because sometimes it does! Yeah found audio was a letdown, but at least it was quick to listen to. Oh i have everyone here is lying in my TBR but i might take it off now haha
Yesssss Apples is such a scam! Literally so boring. Gave me nothing meaningful or rich with subtext. I will admit that White Horse is very mismarketed. It’s for sure lit fic but sold as horror. It’s definitely something that doesn’t translate well in audio format! You’re Not Supposed To Die was horrrific. I don’t know how I finished that one. I read it before I learned how to ruthlessly dnf 😂
Yeah, it really angered me lol And totally agree with white horse, i think the format wasn't adapted and it is lit fic more than horror!! I neeeeed to learn how to DNF omg😂
What's your lowest rated book of 2023?😅
Waif, Cursed Bunny and I DNFed 17 books this year - some were soft DNFs but most were permanent DNFs and I have no regrets. either Floating Staircase or The Family Game... but worst book I DNF'd was Practical Magic.
I just made my own 'worst' video and I must admit: it's quite therapeutic to make :D
Totally!! i felt so much better after haha
Omg 2.96 is suuccchh a low rating on goodreads 😱

i know!! i think it's the lowest ive ever seen
he needs to learn how to write short books lmaoooooo

Wait do I not know how to read upload dates? Is the Best Of video the one that is masterfully edited?

HA. A thriller without the "thrill" is just...
an "er"... womp womp 😆
😂😂😂
18:31 🤣🤣😴😴
it's trueeee😂

It seems like 2024 needs to bring more DNFs for you - can’t recommend it more to actually read more books you like!
Defo!!! I do struggle with it cause i always have hope that the book will get better
